I'm all for kids calling adults what they ask to be called. But in exchange, the adults should call the kids what they ask to be called. If my 7 year old expects to be called Mr.Hislast by random adults who expect to be called Ms. Herlast, I expect the respect given to be returned.

Works for me. I always called my students miss or mister so and so. They loved it! Well, not the little ones because they weren't always even sure of their first name let alone their last!

Random adults? You. Would let your kid just address a random adult by their first name?

I would let my kid call a random adult (Friend, teacher, etc) by what they introduce themselves as. People- ALL PEOPLE-should call others by what they are introduced as. I do agree that it's extremely disrespectful to call someone by their first name when they've asked to be called "Title LastName"

It has to be hard when you know someone professional personally. My very good friend ended up being DDs K teacher and she had a very hard time with it.

I thought kids today just called adults "You're not my mom (or dad)!"

It has to be hard when you know someone professional personally. My very good friend ended up being DDs K teacher and she had a very hard time with it. One of my great aunt's many nieces was our school librarian for years. My aunt still calls her Mrs. L to all the younger generations. Mrs. L retired before my kids got in school but aunt still calls her that when she's referring to her to my kids. I'm used to it but it is kind of funny calling a cousin something so formal. ;D

Hey CL! I thought of you last night when I told my kids the only response I wanted to hear out of them was "Yes Ma'am!". ;D
