Cuba has announced they will no longer stop visa travel for their citizens, enabling them to leave the country. This is the first change in their visa policies since the 1960's. Look for a huge influx of Cubans to Florida. This is not necessarily bad thing, as it will inflate home prices for Floridians dragging them out of a housing morass. Plus, they will eventually vote Republican

I hope to God they do not send another Desi Arness and a band of men wearing frilly sleeves, shaking maracas and singing, "Baba LOOOOOOO!"

And then ask yourself how many American troops died in Vietnam fighting Ho Chi Minh's Viet Cong and The Vietnam Peoples Army? Yet we began talks of normalizing relations in 1978 (albeit minimally) with full diplomatic relations realized in 1997. The U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement was signed on December 10, 2001. Let's do the same with Cuba. It's long past due. If you really want to Americanize' the Cuban government and population, allow Americans to travel to Cuba unfettered. Money talks...loudly. Get rid of the embargo.

I saw it, too. This country is being and will continue to be over run by those who don't come to work but come to mooch and commit crimes.

i think this is a very odd decision with the permanent exile status still in place in the US.

I saw it, too. This country is being and will continue to be over run by those who don't come to work but come to mooch and commit crimes. So, Florida will be having the same problems we here in California and Arizona are having? Maybe now our government will get serious about these invasions? We have a very vibrant Latin flavor to our State , especially in the Southern part of it...a vibrant Cuban community as well as other Latin cultures..most hard working and also very successful people who make our community a exciting place to live for those willing to go out and participate..granted some bad apples too...but we also have a lot of those from our native trees too...as I am sure you from other States have also..not all the fruit is good to eat..way life is .

Current U.S. policy is if Cubans can reach our shores they are allowed to stay-political asylum. This policy has been in place for year upon years. This open'door 'political asylum' has grated non-Cuban Hispanics for years. Special treatment for Cubans but no other Hispanics.

Zib, there was a time when I would have been shocked that anyone could be this prejudiced, and not ashamed to reveal it. However, i guess I must be getting jaded because I am not even surprised at your post.

Build a fence south of Key West that tops the water line by 15 feet, put up guard towers, and gun them down as they approach our shore.

If we can't contain the influx, dig a deep ditch separating Florida from the rest of the continent, and kick 'em loose... ;D

More illegal immigrants pass through the Arizona desert than through Florida. If anyone is going to get a ditch or a wall and guard towers - let's put it where it really matters.
Also, a ditch or a wall won't keep people out that gained a legal VISA! Those people can walk in through any immigration station - airport, boat, whatever.
Are you people daft?

In light of these developments the wet foot, dry foot policy and Cuban Adjustment Act needs to be repealed. Don’t get me wrong, I like Andy Garcia as much as the next person (not in the biblical sense), but a couple of million Cubans coming into South Florida in the next couple of years, penniless, will only exacerbate an already bad situation. On the other hand, they might migrate to the gulf coast, so when I visit my folks in Naples, it might actually be interesting. The only people who don’t go to sleep at 9 pm in that city are the gays. And I do like Cuban coffee. But seriously, southern Florida can only handle so much. It was once a swamp, it may end up being enveloped by the surrounding waters again. You know, climate change and all…

This might be a good move actually. Right now our companies are shipping our jobs overseas because labor is cheap. That sucks for all of us that need to work here to like eat and stuff. So, if we purposefully flood this country with low skilled immigrants and speed us on our way to having a third world looking economy maybe we can get those jobs back sooner because we'll be willing to work for peanuts too. It's just good business.
We should lay off every border patrol agent in the country, stick a big welcome mat between us and Mexico, and get it over with quickly.

I meet the criteria for Australia, I think - I'm headin' there if that (opening the border) happens, before the US turns into an open cesspool... ;D God Save the Queen...

Now we see the real reason. Open has opened the flood gates on immigration trying to change the culture of America. Well, take note of Europe and what happens when you lose your culture.

Yup, and everyone is down on The Netherlands because they aren't willing to let anyone in.
