If Value Buy conducted even an ounce of research or held an ounce of knowledge where tobacco is grown in the U.S., he would not have posted such a ridiculous statement. Valuebuy would learn the (very) vast majority of tobacco grown in the U.S. is grown in 6 states, 5 of them sold Red states. And in the 6th state where tobacco is grown, in the south and southwest area of the state, its a republican stronghold too. If VB wishes to blame Obama for more cancer because Cuban cigars may now become available, how about attacking and blaming years of lung cancer deaths on the republicans of tobacco growing states who control local and state governments and their congressional representatives and senators in Washington who are part or wholly bought and owned by the tobacco industry. USDAFinally, adults who have never smoked tobacco before are not going to start lighting up Cuban cigars en masse just because they are now available. Current cigar smokers will buy the Cuban cigars. Teens will probably not be able to afford them. Just cigar connoisseurs. I don't drink. Just because Cuban rums may now become available to buy in the U.S. doesn't mean I am now going to go out and buy Cuban rum and drink it. Not sure how much is still grown there but Connecticut shade grown outer leaf, for premium wrappers m, was a big thing not that long ago...Connecticut River area...Massachusetts, Windsor , Ct..cured in long wooden barns ...shade grown...remember the cotton blanketing of the fields...so many acres sold for development but I believe the Industry is still being done.. I remember the tobacco barns and the teens in the 50s and 60s going to pick the wrappers in the summer. The barns in Windsor/Windsor locks are pretty much long gone and so is the growing of shade tobacco. Connecticut (river) valley used to grown about 15,000 acres a year of shade tobacco for wrapping-not the tobacco within the cigars. The growing of shade tobacco today in that area is now down to around 2,000 acres. Kentucky and North Carolina alone account for 71% of cigarette tobacco grown in the U.S. "Tobacco is commercially harvested in 10 states. In 2011, North Carolina led in production by harvesting nearly 251.6 million pounds from 162,000 acres. Kentucky again ranked second, harvesting more than 172.1 million pounds of tobacco from 77,500 acres. At 160,000 acres, North Carolina also had the most acres of flue-cured tobacco, and Kentucky the most acreage of burley tobacco, 64,000 acres. Following these states in production were Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina. (NASS)" Agricultural Marketing Research Center-Tobacco Profile

Some of our sanctions against Cuba are being lifted tomorrow.
We can now buy $100 worth of Cuban cigars. God bless our President. He wants more lung cancer here in the states. Great. Just freaking great. I was just watching an interview with a trade minister in Cuba. He said half their tourists are Canadian, and this will impact Canadians negatively. With the influx of American money, cheap vacations are a thing of the past. Within the next few months, the prices will literally skyrocket. We will no longer have our cheap little respite two or three times a year.

But think what Havana and the country will soon look like once the Americans and their money arrive. Las Vegas with tropical beaches.

Life just does not get better than that. If you think some of the pictures of shoppers in WalMart are bad and funny at the same time now, just think of the hilarity and grossness of ill-clad shoppers at a tropical WalMart.

Right now, Cuba is completely unspoiled. How long do you think it will take before souvenir shops pop up, selling cheap tee shirts with "I heart Cuba" on them?

I guess all the media reports showing the slums and lifestyle as if it is 1960 are incorrect then. Oh, I forgot. Their healthcare system is actually good. If you are Presidente

Tenn, I said do not kill the messenger, and yet you tried to. As Weltz stated it is not lung cancer Obama decided to import here. It was throat and tongue cancer
Yet you didn't say throat and tongue cancer. You said Obama wants more lung cancer here in the States, didn't you. Why of course you did. Here it is below: Some of our sanctions against Cuba are being lifted tomorrow.
We can now buy $100 worth of Cuban cigars. God bless our President. He wants more lung cancer here in the states. As you never said throat and tongue, you now own the lung cancer claim. I have also gone through this thread and cannot find any comment from Weltz stating it was throat and tongue cancer one gets from smoking cigars, be they American made or Cuban. The only comment she made about the cigars was if a person is inhaling cigar smoke, they are doing it wrong. You are the only one who raised the issue of cancer. If Welts did say it was mouth and tongue cancer, she has deleted the post (which I doubt). Can you provide a link from CNBC which states lung cancer is going to increase with Cuban cigars becoming available or did you make that up? Would American cigar smokers of today not get the same type of lung cancer smoking American cigars as they would Cuban cigars? Do you have any facts as to how many non-smoking Americans will now start smoking Cuban cigars on a regular basis to the point they get lung cancer from Cuban cigars? Your CNBC source should have that information if you are citing them as your source Obama is importing more lung cancer and their segment was about upcoming new cases of cancer from Cuban cigars. Or is this just an opportunity to throw a dig at Obama? I have yet to see you address all the cancer deaths from tobacco grown in Republican states. How many times have you addressed and blamed Republicans for the hundred thousand plus deaths each year caused by cigarette smoking and the Republican politicians who keep fighting to keep tobacco farmers and companies growing and processing cigarette tobacco in their states. I can tell you how many times. Zero. And here's a double 'winky' for you.

I wonder if Value Buy approves of the Keystone Pipeline? Doesn't he know that if Obama OKs it, it will mean he's supporting TERRORISM?
Before heading abroad to join extremist groups such as Islamic State, some Canadians have been stopping first in northern Alberta to earn money to finance their terrorist activities, the chief of the Edmonton Police Service says. "You can go up to Fort McMurray ... you're relatively anonymous, you're in one of those work camps and you can make a hockey sack of money in a very, very short period of time," said Rod Knecht.
At least three Canadians have worked short-term jobs in northern Alberta before joining Islamic State, including two from Ontario, a Postmedia News investigation indicates. The RCMP said Michael Zehaf-Bibeau had also worked in the oilfields before his deadly attack in Ottawa.

The article in that link is riddled with misinformation. I guess you have to live in Alberta - and know of Ft Mac, having been there, and what goes on there as far as the oil industry etc or who's working there or traveling there.
That link is from a Phoenix news source.
While it's a fairly long distance north of me if driving, I have been there when I worked in the oil industry. I've also been there on fly-in fishing trips to lakes/fishing camps just outside of Ft Mac.
I wouldn't put too much substance or belief into the information in that link.

It's also in the National Post, Maclean's, Huffington Post Canada, the Albertan, the CBC and The Province. I was merely pointing out the absurdity of "Obama importing lung cancer."

As far as tobacco growing in the states, gee, I never knew that.... All I know is major media reported we will be able to buy some cigars and bring them back, creating more healthcare concerns and costs for the ACA, or as better known, Obama Healthcare.

Yes I support it, and if you want to put those claims on Boehner and the Republicans, have at it. We can take it. But please stick to the thread premise here, rather than Keystone. We are not talking about importing terrorism from Cuba. Now, if Cuba allows an expansion of Guantanimo with the next American administration, we might be getting somewhere here.

Not the cold-stupid comments bother me. Now please provide a credible link for the highlighted claim of yours above. I suppose you will also claim Obama will be responsible for more skin cancer cases and deaths because U.S. travellers frequented Cuban beaches and how it is causing more health care costs and concerns for the ACA. It is right in line with your Cuban cigar conclusion.

You are welcome. It fits right into your political agenda. Don't forget to provide your Cuban cigar cancer study links and how it will affect ACA costs.
