And for those who follow a different religion? They might find that statement insulting to them and their beliefs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BEAGS said: It's my time to confuse people. Have you ever heard of The Holy Trinity? God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit . . . it is all ONE person. Thus another thing that cannot be defined. So if you are speaking of Jesus (which we are told is His son) than you are speaking of God. I don't know how to explain this, and neither do any of the religions who believe in it. It's one of what the church calls the great mystery. So I'm not here to get you to understand it . . because not even I do. I just pointed it out to say that if the holy trinity is truly one person, when you talk of any of them, you are talking about God. Now I'm wondering . . do you think this great mystery was written about to INCLUDE all religions? Now lets delve into something else .. the holy spirit. How many people don't pray to god but they turn to some other healing source? Like perhaps you do Yoga or the like and there's this calming effect from the music or whatever, or like meditation. I am told by some it brings them to a different area where they feel calm . . . I can't explain it. Do you think this state is the holy spirit? It's just a thought . . I was trying to include EVERYONE. I don't believe that if you live life the way the bible says (and many athiests do, they just don't believe), I can't see where this fire and brimstone will rain down upon them. (in other words they go to hell) I stated before that there are christians that don't deserve to go to heaven as they have done some pretty nasty stuff. The bible says if they ask God for forgiveness they will enter heaven. The part I truly don't believe is that if our God is truly forgiving, why would He condemn one person who committed the same crime and forgive the other simply because one believes and one does not? Sorry but if he is ALL FORGIVING I believe that includes everyone, whether they believe or not. There are many athiests who are good people and live the same way as christians do, even though they don't believe. So what makes one deserving and another not deserving? the fact that they believe? Sorry, I can't buy into that. _______________________________________________________ The way I understand the Holy Trinity is to compare it to a family. There are adults with the last name of Smith. The children have the same last name, but each person has a specific first name. So if Jonny does something, mom is not responsible, and visa versa. I also understand that Jesus and the Holy Spirit have different jobs. The HS is the 'worker'. Jesus did His thing when he walked the earth and died on the cross. God is the Creator. He created all things. [/quote]

O.k., let's get some opinions on hell. A lot of people think hell would be hot. I'm a midwesterner, & frankly, having experienced temperatures all the way from 110 degrees to -100 windchill, I was more miserable in the cold. So, I can relate to the quote, "cold as hell". Any other opinions out there? I think hell is a total absence of God. I think it's real and it's a place of torment and pure evil. And I think it's for a very long time. (eternity)

I agree with hell being the total absence of God. I wonder (but don't want to find out) if it's like solitary confinement, with no other contact with another human. Or, is it constant torment? I think we all agree that no one would want to spend eternity there....

Not for those who are easily offended or have delicate sensibilities, but these are pretty funny. The 9 Most Badass Bible Verses If the Bible had been written by King Leonidas and the rest of the Spartans from 300, it would probably read pretty much the same as it does now. It turns out, the Bible is already chock full of ass kicking. Here are the verses that make us want to take to the streets and put some unbelievers to the sword. (have I mentioned my other name is satans spawn .. or that's what they call me at work) Being as I'm spawned from hell . . . let me enlighten you. First I turn it up past 120 with high humidity. Then when they are sweatin and pleading for it to be cooler . . . drop it to 35 below zero. . . . . then they beg for it to be warmer . . . back to 120. . . . Then I sit back and laugh . . . I could play that game with them all day long.

I think the ultimate hell would be spending an eternity with whatever brought you the most misery in life. Hey that's not nice . .. the thing that brought me the most misery IS in hell . . . or he should be. Personally that's where all people like him should be.

I don't understand how there can ever be an absence of God. Wouldn't that be like saying one is absent of blood. I didn't mean there is, I meant IF there was, that would be hell. Of course there may be. I've just never been to hell and hope to never experience it. My intellect tells me hell is a no no place for me. My body and soul agree. ;D

It amazes me how far some people will go to disapprove or mock what is holy to Christians. Muslims wouldn't put up with it. But, Christians let it roll off their backs. There's quite a bit of terror going on at this very moment in the ME because of some movie.

I could never understand why the different religions are so hostile towards each other. It's like everyone going to the grocery store and then having wars over which fruit tastes the best. Why? Aren't we all there for the same reason? I really get the feeling that someone or something is deliberately keeping us from joining together in our quest to discover who we are. BINGO! The fact of the matter is MOST religions do have the same God. The Deity has different names and explanations according to the culture. Some of it may be confusing to our way of thinking or perhaps a word is translated differently or whatever. Semantics divides us. I, for one, believe in God, the Father and the Holy Trinity. I believe in heaven, hell and purgatory. I believe in forgiveness of sin and that Jesus died for our sins. I believe in climbing the mountain to holiness. And I love the Catholic mass. But who am I to have an opinion on other people's beliefs? The judge is not me. If a person is interested, I share, if not I figure there is another plan for that person. God can be a very smart man. He has the world universe at His disposal. We pray, He finds the way for an individual. To shove it down someones proverbial throat is non productive and scares people away. There are many ways of evangelizing. Prayer is one of them. How we live our lives is another. Too many words and no one listens.

I could never understand why the different religions are so hostile towards each other. I don't think it is all of them that are hostile to each other. Probably fair to say that our 3 main, monotheistic faiths are the primary antagonists. The reason for this is simple, in my view; they are expressions of the unrestrained male ego. Unfortunately they exhibit all the symptoms: the God, a He, with a penchant for ogre-ism, the patriarchal hierarchies, the status of women as second class citizens (or worse), the willingness to lock horns over territory, the lack of empathy accompanying the treatment of potential threats to dominion. The institutions are hostile to each other in the same way that men are hostile to each other because they are essentially the institutionalisation of male egotism.

MOST? Iduttinger, this is patently false. Most religions do NOT worship the same god - 3 do: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. All 3 parent religions have various subsets, but they are NOT different religions, just different interpretations of the parent doctrine.
The conflict between them is a bit like sibling rivalry between 3 bullies - they're really the ONLY religions that have this conflict - with each other and every other religion. They need to grow up and realise how big of bullies they've become.

Which is why I said it. I wouldn't want to be spending eternity with what (or who) was my 'hell on earth'. I had more than enough of it here and now I'm free.
Maybe that's why I try to live a good life - to cut down my chances of spending eternity in that hell.

Wouldn't it be logical to state: 'If one believes in hell, then they must also believe in heaven'? Because for every thing there is an opposite? perhaps I'm misguided on this. Any ideas?

I don't think Evil is the "opposite" of Good. Or, that evil is an absence of Good. I think of Evil as the Corruption of good. Like having a new shiny car, the "evil" is rust. The corruption of the good thing. I wouldn't say opposites necessarily because that would almost imply an equality and i don't think that is the case.

Anti-cheese.
When it comes into contact with cheese it unleashes the force of 10 nuclear bombs per cubic inch of material.

I should have said in the physical sense - as in physics.
