I am more worried about drunken pilots flying the plane than maybe a little inconvenience for a few hours having a chubby person sitting next to me. JMO

I'm so sorry about that, Zib. I can't see what something like that accomplishes.

I feel bad for and respect to some extent folks with weight issues...I am sure it is miserable for them...even when some feel they should be able to control it...it's tough to lose a little weight, let alone a lot.

It was their choice to NOT buy adequate space. Everything rest on them. I don't care about why or how they are large. I don't want them to feel bad. i just want to have my seat and not be touched by a stranger.
So back before the airline changed the policy and they were actually able to buy two seats for one person, they were supposed to do what exactly - stay home?

Many people are in denial about precisely how large they really are.

"everyone else has been able to stand back and argue their point without the unnecessary one-liners." I guess I missed the one liner rule in the CoC. Toodles.

.
Those were my words and they weren't aimed at you. They were aimed at those people who have immature, hissy fits on airplanes and who make a spectacle of themselves while humilating others. I don't know you. I don't know if you do this or not. I was not calling YOU immature or saying that YOU throw hissy fits. I apologize that I wasn't clear on the matter.
I don't think that you are malicious at all, nor do I think it is your intent to humilate people. I'm sorry that you are interpreting my disagreement with your posts in that way. It wasn't meant to be so.

People have always been able to buy 2 seats to be more comfortable. The airlines were perfectly happy to sell a ticket for seats that were not going to be occupied. I bought an extra seat for my mother a few years back so she would be more comfortable. Didn't you see the episode of "Lost" when Hurley bought up all the seats on a plane so that no one else would get sent to the island with them? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

DF and I are buying the middle seat when we go overseas. It's tons cheaper than first class and we get the room.

Are you saying it was impossible to buy two seats previously?![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/idunno.gif) I read that in an article about this earlier when I was randomly Googling. Supposedly, before this policy went into effect you weren't able to buy two seats for the same person. I don't know how true it is. I never tried.

Many people are in denial about precisely how large they really are. I think people are in denial about how big the airline seats are. My last plane trip had 3 different planes I had to take. I wasn't given the choice to choose my seat. For the record I am 5'2 and have short legs. One of the seats was so small that when I got on the plane the attendant took my ticket to tell me where my seat was and the first thing she said to me was "I'm so sorry!". It was literally the smallest seat the airline had in it's fleet. It was a window seat and in order to get into it I had to grab the seat in front or crawl on the seats. With the seats in the upright position they still were over the floor in between the seats. The seat in front of me was a reclining seat though. With them reclining even a couple of inches it hit me in the head. Was I supposed to sit there for three hours with the seat in front of me hitting me on the head? The last airline seat reclining thread most people thought I had no right to have them not hit me in the head with their seat. The attendant told me that if there was any open seats she would have moved me but it was a full flight so I was stuck. the person in front of me was a younger man who was pretty nice. After being confused as to why his seat wouldn't go all the way back and realizing that it was hitting me he kept his seat upright the whole flight. I am so glad it was him and not some of you in front of me on that plane! ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/pray.gif) And it really is about the same argument that that space in front of my face is "my space" and I paid for it but most people insisted that I bought a ride and not a set amount of space to sit in.

Like I said, that's the crux of the argument. Personally, I think both sides have merit. On the one hand, you're paying for a ride - period. Not a certain amount of space/comfort (unless you buy a seat in first class). On the other hand, you are entitled to your own seat without someone else encroaching. I find that as unpleasant as anyone else does.
