SAFEWAY JUST4U IS BS Okay, something prompted me to sign up for the JUST4U program at Safeway. I signed up DS's card. He's gotten the $3 off when you buy $10 worth of produce JUST4U Personalized Deal for three weeks now. Interesting because he doesn't buy much produce. Last week Safeway had cherries on sale for $2.47 which when combined with the $3/$10 JUST4U coupon, made them a really good deal. I was thinking about my mom who buys A LOT of produce at Safeway. She doesn't have the internet so I called her, told her about the deal on the cherries, and asked if she'd like me to sign her up. I'll check out her deals every week and call her to see what she wants. Mom is thrilled. I signed her up and guess what? She didn't get the $3/$10 produce deal. She didn't get it last week and she didn't get it this week. If JUST4U is really JUST4U, then she certainly should have been offered a discount on produce. This kind of tells me that JUST4U isn't really JUST4U at all. Although you might get some good deals on stuff, it appears that it's really JUST4THEM.

If the fog comes in, forget it. Fireworks are legal in our town so the 4th is awesome. There is a place where we can go that looks over the city where we can see three different big fireworks shows simultaneously from afar (different neighboring towns, we think). At the same time, we are seeing small fireworks being shot off by residents all over the community. We had always lived in a town where fireworks were illegal, so for us, it is pretty amazing.

But Safeway misrepresents the program as if the items are selected JUST4U based on your shopping habits and what you might normally WANT to buy. If that were the case, my mom certainly should have gotten the produce deal. The only thing she was offered that she was remotely interested in was a discount price on broccoli. She got offers for all sorts of cleaning products, but she NEVER buys those at Safeway. So we'll cherry pick from the Personalized Deals just like we do from the ad; but, in my opinion, the program is more designed to get people to start buying products from Safeway that they probably haven't purchased too much in the past, than to really help them get better deals on things that they would buy normally. Note: My mom also got several "deals" on bread items. She buys her bread at an Oroweat discount store.

I hope everyone's 4th was good. Steamy hot in IL. More of the same today. I don't know how you CA people do it. I don't shop Safeway/Dominicks often because they are in one town over in either direction. The directions that they are in are opposite of what area I usually am in. Go figure. I did register for Just4U and have gotten some free or well priced items using their program. I do not believe they are solely based on your buying habits. I also get "deals" on cleaning supplies that honestly I don't EVER remember buying a cleaning product from them. Maybe they think I need some? Well, not at those prices. I only use their program for my best advantage. I'm trying to figure out how people get cats at their stores. I do use coupons and shop sales like the rest of you. I seem to only get the "junk" ones... transfer your Rx, get X, Use your Discover card advertisements, rarely do I get one for a product. What about you? People in front of me in line, heck they get 6 or 7...not sure of what the people behind me get. My favorite shopping was Albertsons/Jewel on the 3rd. They had a promotion going with, buy one case of Miller Light, get Oscar Meyer hot dogs, one package of Rosens hot dog buns and mustard for $.01. The beer was on sale, so for $12.00 paid for that. They also had Margareta ville shrimp on sale, B1G1. Margareta ville website had $1.00 off coupons on their site, printed two, got two shrimp packages for $4.99. Promotion on Ore Ida grillers, recent coupon (not sure what insert). Buy two Ore Ida products, get one free. The grillers were 2 for $7, used three $1.00, so got three Ore Ida for $4.00. I was surprised to get out of there at under $30.00

Hi Ladies! I hope everyone had a nice holiday. Here, there are still many people without power and it has been very hot and humid. It was a weird 4th of July. I had everyone over after 8:00 last night for some Hebrew hotdogs and icecream cones. We ended up outside to watch the neighborhood fireworks and it wasn't too bad out. We also met with an insurance adjuster to go over our losses from the storm. I have some homework to do as I have to itemize my food loss from the refrigerator. The thing is, I don't know what the regular price for food is so I will have to take my list and go to the store. I haven't bought too much at full price in a very long time and I don't know what food costs regularly. I guess that's a good thing.

HOUND ALERT!!! $4/1 Gillette Venus & Olay Razor, exp. 7/31/12 (SS 06/17/12) $3/1 Soleil disposable razor, exp 8/5/12 (SS 07/08/12 R) It is for next weeks CVS sale and the deals are Bic Soleil Razor - $6.79 Get: $2.00 ECB $3/1 Soleil disposable razor, exp 8/5/12 (SS 07/08/12 R) as low as $1.79 after coupon & ECB And Gillette Venus & Olay Razor - $9.99 Get: $4.00 ECB $4/1 Gillette Venus & Olay Razor, exp. 7/31/12 (SS 06/17/12) as low as $1.99 after coupon & ECB I wanted to do them twice so I would need two of each. anyone who can help it would be greatly appreciated! beachbum: Do you plan to actually use the Soleil razor? Have you ever used one? It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't even pay sales tax for them and I was using the better non-disposable variety of Soleil. OTOH, if you really need razors, the Venus would be much, much more worth the OOP (only $.20 more than the Soleil). It is a much higher quality razor and is not disposable. BUT that's just me. Oh, I almost forgot. I have (2) Venus Qs that I can send you. Just PM me your address. All I can remember is your IRL first name.

I think our high yesterday was @ 80 which is just fine with me! ;D I'm not a hot weather person unless by a pool or beach. I like to be outside working in the yard or going for a long walk/hike. It was a bit breezy when I went walking yesterday but my shorts and short sleeve tee were just fine. We just had to walk up our block to a little park to be able to see the fireworks from SFO, Discovery Kingdom Marine World, and somewhere else the other side of the straits. It was chilly up there so we had to bundle up. Just DD2 and I as DH was working a wedding. Who gets married on the 4th of July??? We had our bbq at lunchtime so he would be with us and ate outside on our patio. A momma dear and her two babies were up behind our fence line watching us. We had picked some strawberries earlier in the day from my patch and thrown the not so great ones over the fence. I think they wanted more.
RE J4U: I got the $3/$10 produce again this week, too. That is one I use all the time. I do see a lot of stuff that I do normally buy on the list, but also lots of other things that I'll never purchase at Safeway. I usually just look at the personalized list although last week there were a couple items on the regular coupon side that were a good deal too. I never buy Morningstar products but there was a $2.99 price and I had a $1 q: DS and his gal pal are coming up later in the month for a family wedding and she is a vegetarian so that will be for her. Got a $2 OYNO cat as well so virtually free.

My theory was that I have 48 dollars in ECB's that I got from what is the Gas Card deal elsewhere. Since DD loves them I thought it was a good enough deal to spend them on. Does anyone know about any really good deals coming up? I think I got out of the CVS deal swing of things because I don't see anything coming up that is a great deal.

Hi all; I was very frustrated by my $5 off $20 at CVS - per the fine print, it could "not be used with any other coupon", and so my fantastic scenario was out the window, and hurry up and decide if I'm going to use the MCs and CRTs with the products I had picked, or the $5. She illustrated this point by picking up my $1 Bounty coupon, and also waved over a manager (I guess I look pretty scary when you contradict my coupon plans...) who backed her up 100%. I don't think I was the first person to be unhappy about it. So, I ended up buying something else I needed, which was on sale but no q's. Out-of-pocket was much higher than planned. GRRRRR.
MissPT - I think your boys are the cutest ever, but that's a pretty cute puppy dog on your author picture. We just got a fur-baby from a friend at work that couldn't keep her due to landlord issues, so I'll try to add her to mine....she's much cuter than me!
I looked at my Safeway J4U just now, and it does split choices into "things you have purchased" and "things you might like to buy" on mine, although I confess I don't remember purchasing some of them, but CRS is rampant at my house.

I have been trying, in vain, to get those this week at RA. I have now hit 4 RA's this week (2 of them twice, actually, groan.) And no luck. Not a Venus Olay razor in sight. So, I may, possibly, be able to send you mine. Part of me just want to mail them to you, to end my razor search. And the other part of me thinks, well, maybe the razors will show up Saturday at my closest RA when they get their shipment in that day. Now, hopefully, I will remember to come back to this if I don't use the mq's!

Dancin Agree J4U is NOT accurate re: my typical purchases. TONS of stuff I NEVER buy or NEVER buy there (dog food, cat food, baggies, cleaning products……….). For the 2nd week in a row I will go only because I will be passing the store and will check clearance. Of course the produce manager was ‘too busy’ to clearance the 2 FE salad kits expiring the SAME day that I would have bought if he had knocked them down. Prob be his lunch & dinner.
Ruby I would have to do the same thing-check on REAL replacement costs for food items.
Murpath Late DH wanted to get married on Halloween so he would always remember the date. I nixed that. People prob got married on the 4th because out of town people could more easily come and/or prices were cheaper because it was a week night for hall, food, DJ, florist……….
Pat I already made a list of things I need to stock up on because of heat related shortages/price increases. Some have already gone WAAAY up.

You savy shoppers might consider stocking up on foodstuffs. I just heard on Bloomberg financial this morning that 50% of the country is in drought conditions. It's already sent corn to $7 a bushel, last week I heard wheat I believe it was was at $14 a bushel. This is going to impact beef and hogs too for feed plus chickens and when its hot the animals don't put on as much weight, its hard on them. Just a heads up as I see consumer prices going up even more, might be wise to do a stock up unless we start seeing lots of rain. Jobs aren't being created at a pace fast enough to lower the unemployment rate and prices are going to go up. This is going to hit a lot of people very hard.

I'm jealous of you all with the comfortable temps!! We're going on 9 days of triple-digit temps! Craziness!! rubyslippers, I hope the power comes on for you all soon!! One of my grocery stores has a sale Friday and Saturday--49-cents for Red Gold ketcup, Blue Bunny popsicles 4/$5.. (banana is included, and my FIL LOVES banana popsicles...since he keeps my kids Monday and Friday, it's the least I can do!) There are a couple of other things included that I'll get, too... just have to wait for the sun to go down so it will be a little cooler... NAG: Last week, my 7-year old DD and I were on the way to my mom and dad's house in Southern IN for the 21st annual family reunion. She and I were cruising along highway 70, just in to IL when we see three ladies off to the side of the road. Their windshield was SHATTERED!! I've never seen anything like it in my life. Something in my gut told me to stop and make sure they were all ok. For the most part, they were. The one lady had some minor cuts and scratches but there was no way they were going anywhere! The one gal said they were just waiting on highway patrol to get there. She said they had been there for 10-15 minutes and we were the first people to stop. She said most people just blew their horns and flipped them off. (They were on the left-hand side of the highway--the "fast" lane side.) I had 1/2 a case of water from WAGS Memorial Day sale ($1.99/24 bottles), so I was able to at least give them some water. It wasn't cold, but it was wet. They were grateful, considering it was 108-degrees outside! My DD and I got back in the car and my little one says "Mommy, we were just Jesus to those ladies, weren't we? Jesus tells us to give a drink to those who need it, and even though it wasn't cold. we gave them a drink. I think we made Jesus smile. What do you think, mommy?" Yeah... mommy was in the front seat about to cry. She GETS it, that it's ok to stop and help people. I was really glad I left that 1/2 case of water in the car. It was "one of those feelings" that I needed to leave it in there for some reason. I had my "proud mommy moment". ;D

Staples ad for next week is up and they have their back to school sales starting. Yep. They also sent out a 5/30 Q today, so I have started my list.

Sometimes things just don't work out. I went to CVS to use my $2/beverage or candy IP (Facebook) and I had a rain check for peanut butter M&Ms ($2.00), so perfect. Of course the coupon beeped. When the new cashier tried to push it through, the register charged me $2 taxable instead of crediting me $2. Then he credited $2 twice and says, "That will be $.17. Is that okay?" Well, not really; but he's new and I've gotten so many great deals there, I'm not going to make a stink over $.17. In addition, he forgot to scan my bag tag. Oh well. Like I said, I've gotten A LOT of awesome deals at CVS.
