The CVS ad scan on WUC for 7/15 is advertising that the red machine will be giving a 4/20 for four days, Sunday-Wednesday that week. Lots of EB deals that week so should be some good deals to be had! Yesterday I got a $6/1 Coppertone Sport CRT! It will be 9.99 with 2 EB's that week! Yippee!
I have also read that the $4/20 that comes in email that SAYS it expires on Sunday, if you wait til Sunday to print it, it extends the expiration date a few days! I printed one (but didn't use it yesterday...NOTHING worth buying with their 1 page ad) but will print the other one tomorrow and let you know. I will probably use it on the Garnier deal (hope my CRT's aren't all expired, although some of my stores will still take them if they are within a week) and maybe the Aussie which should be free after$1/1 blinkie, $1/2 CRT, $4/20 and EB.

I'm jealous of you all with the comfortable temps!! We're going on 9 days of triple-digit temps! Craziness!! rubyslippers, I hope the power comes on for you all soon!! One of my grocery stores has a sale Friday and Saturday--49-cents for Red Gold ketcup, Blue Bunny popsicles 4/$5.. (banana is included, and my FIL LOVES banana popsicles...since he keeps my kids Monday and Friday, it's the least I can do!) There are a couple of other things included that I'll get, too... just have to wait for the sun to go down so it will be a little cooler... NAG: Last week, my 7-year old DD and I were on the way to my mom and dad's house in Southern IN for the 21st annual family reunion. She and I were cruising along highway 70, just in to IL when we see three ladies off to the side of the road. Their windshield was SHATTERED!! I've never seen anything like it in my life. Something in my gut told me to stop and make sure they were all ok. For the most part, they were. The one lady had some minor cuts and scratches but there was no way they were going anywhere! The one gal said they were just waiting on highway patrol to get there. She said they had been there for 10-15 minutes and we were the first people to stop. She said most people just blew their horns and flipped them off. (They were on the left-hand side of the highway--the "fast" lane side.) I had 1/2 a case of water from WAGS Memorial Day sale ($1.99/24 bottles), so I was able to at least give them some water. It wasn't cold, but it was wet. They were grateful, considering it was 108-degrees outside! My DD and I got back in the car and my little one says "Mommy, we were just Jesus to those ladies, weren't we? Jesus tells us to give a drink to those who need it, and even though it wasn't cold. we gave them a drink. I think we made Jesus smile. What do you think, mommy?" Yeah... mommy was in the front seat about to cry. She GETS it, that it's ok to stop and help people. I was really glad I left that 1/2 case of water in the car. It was "one of those feelings" that I needed to leave it in there for some reason. I had my "proud mommy moment". ;D Missourimommy: What a beautiful story! We got our power back early but there are still people without and the heat has been triple digits breaking all kinds of records. My niece, and her DH and baby have been staying with my sister who works a night shift and that's working out well. The only hounding I did this week was to get the Breyers icecream at Rite Aid. We are supposed to get a break from the heat tomorrow so I'm looking forward to Sunday and getting back to hounding some deals. On a side note, last week we had our garage sale and I sold a lot of my stockpile along with some other things. I made enough to pay for the generator we bought for $481.00.

My paper did NOT have the ads for 2 of my independent stores this week but with the ads I did get there is NOTHING I really want let alone need. Even CVS & WAG have NOTHING for me on the 7/8 ads. I figure I will spend half my budget on produce & dairy and the other half on stock ups on items I expect to have BIG price increases.
I did file a complaint w/Meijer corp on the BAD ground meat I bought there. It took a full day to even get an auto response that said it was sent to the store mgr. It has now been a full business week & I have heard DIDLY from him. I am DONE w/Meijer.
Back to school sales starting: DD1 JUST finished teaching a ½ term summer school class.. this is SOOO nuts-like Christmas decorations a month b/4 Halloween.

marvholly, Our local Fox News Network sent a couple of their employees to Garden Ridge over lunch last Thursday (I believe?) Garden Ridge was ALREADY putting out Christmas decorations!! IT'S JULY!!!!!!! Guess this gives new meaning to the phrase "Christmas in July"?.... That, or they are trying to help people cool off from the crazy triple digit temps? Who knows? I agree that it's a little too early to be putting out back-to-school stuff.......although my kids go back August 9!

I'm really happy I'm learning to speak up at the cash register and keep my eye out for mis-marked items. I had planned to get Nature's Promise Chicken Breast 1 lb. and 1 lb. of the Mild Italian Chicken Sausage because they were on sale this week for $3.99/lb. There were a few packages of mis-marked Chicken Breast saying using your card you would get it at $2.99/lb. so I decided to get two and skip the chicken sausage until later in the week. They didn't ring through that way, but because I pointed it out I got one package, 1.3 lbs. free and the other one at the reduced rate. ;D (Nature's Promise is a near organic store brand for those who don't have Stop and Shop grocery stores.)

We cooked it Monday night and couldn't eat it because it was so bad. I will be making my complaint in person the next time I go there. I also have a package in the freezer and I'm half afraid to eat it too.

I always try and watch as things are being rung up just in case it rings up wrong. Acme used to have a policy that if something rung up wrong you got it for free. I guess they need better programmers because they ended that program pretty quick. On another note I got my first NBPR rebate check back today! It was only for $5 whole dollars, but it is $5 dollars that I spent on something I wanted and it came in less than a month. ;D

Interesting. Looking ahead at the upcoming CVS ads I see their vitamin BOGO comes up exactly when I will need some.
MS mom Most of our suburban & private schools go back between 8/20 & 8/27. Chicago goes back 9/4 or 5.
Ruby I bought the ground beef 6/29 and made a special trip to return on 6/30. It is about 25 min each way for me and I ALWAYS have a cooler in my car too. Need in summer w/ice for perishables and in winter w/o ice for delicates (some fruits & veg). Had other things in cooler on 6/29 that were fine and pointed out to store mgr how cold the meat was when I returned on 6/30.
At this point after hearing from you and others on another board I am debating even using the raincheck I have.

If you're using drug chain money and coupons to cover most of the cost of what you buy, $5 can be a lot of OOP.

Today's papers are just a waste of money. I was thinking of buying the Saturday edition of the Sunday paper for 1.50, but thankfully did not do that. 25c for the Loreal Vive Pro shampoo - really ??

I am officially POOPED. It's harvest time again for the grapes on our grape arbor. I pick them before they ripen otherwise it's a hell of a mess because they are just too juicy. I picked 60 gallons and there are still a lot up there that I could not reach or just did not see. I am hoping that the gardeners will harvest the rest for me.
The grapes attract rats. Yes, you heard that right. In the fall we can hear one or two scurrying around happily munching away at whatever they can find.
And they are REALLY BAD for puppy dogs. Yesterday, the Rocket Man got a hold of a few that dropped on the ground as I was harvesting and barfed them up later in the afternoon.

I have been to three different stores today which is probably two more than I have done in one day in a while. I decided to do it on the maybe tenth day in a row of over 100 degree temps. I started out at Staples. I thin back to school sales are my favorite. I really look forward to them every year. ;D I wanted the one cent stuff like the pens, crayons, glue and the mech pencils and dry erase markers. I also wanted the staples paper and the super glue that was almost free after rebate. I was going to couple that with a book bag that I saw on line that was 50% off for the month making it $12.49. I got there and the book bags were 25%-50% off but they didn't have the brand that they did on line. And the kicker was that the ones in the store were all super expensive. I think the cheapest in the store was forty bucks and that one was only 25% off. The ones that were 50% off were all over $80. For a bookbag that my kids to see who can destroy it first that was way over my price range! It made me $11 short to use the coupon and there wasn't anything else on sale that I wanted. I was thinking of just buying what I wanted and forgetting the coupons when I swear I heard Dancin's voice in my head. It said that since what I wanted wasn't there I should get something that never goes on sale to use the coupon with. I got 2 staples paper ........$6.99 ea (6.75 rebate each) 1 super glue .....................2.99 (2.99 rebate) 2 bic pens packs.....................0.02 2 packs crayons......................0.02 2 school glue...........................0.02 4 5 pk mech pencils.................1.00 2 4pk dry erase mrkers...........1.00 1 ream ledger (11X17)paper 16.99 (NEVER goes on sale!) Total.......................................$36.99 Minus$5/$30 coupon............. ..-5.00 minus rewards........................-20.00 Plus tax ....................................-0.75 Final OOP...................................$11.49

For my second store of the day I went to CVS. I had the $3/15 beuty from fB that was expiring today. I got the GN eye cream and 5 2ltr Cokes. It ended up being GN.eye cream..........$15.99 5 Cokes.......................5.00 subtotal.....................20.99 minus cvs FB coupon...-3.00 GN Mc...........................-1.00 survey ECB...................-1.00 ECB..............................-10.00 Plus tax...........................1.19 Final OOP........................7.18 which works out to be $1.83 for my GN eye cream and $5.35 for the coke. I also got a $5 ECB for the GN. Not a great deal on the coke but I was out and really wanted it.

OMG, I totally agree. I can't believe how thin the inserts were and even then there was two pages of garbage ads. Interestingly enough, there were several copies of unsold papers.

DM, WOW on all the grape picking! And euuuw on the rats! Ya, luckily that's the only thing that they like in our yard. Sometimes we see them running along the fence line, but we've NEVER seen one in our yard. Of course, Milo the Lizard Slayer is on duty.

IF I cannot think of anything that doesn't normally go on sale that we need, I let it go; but I always give it the old college try. I'm glad that it worked out for you. Does the sale on the paper and super glue go all week long? And where did you get the $5/$30? DH need some super glue and I told him I'd probably be able to get it cheap during the back to school sales. He'll be VERY happy. TIA

Dancin Staples ads go from Sunday till Saturday. So they should have it all week. It is a easy rebate though. So I had to pay the 2.99 plus tax and then when I came home I applied online for my easy rebate. truthfully I normally get them back in about three weeks. They are about as painless as a rebate can get. The $5/$30 is online www.livingrichwithcoupons.com/2012/07/staples-coupon-5-off-30-purchase.html and it is on the bottom of my ad this week also. If you won't get there till later in the week I would print if off. They also won't give you a rain check for rebates if they run out. Most of the time they still have those items since they always have a limit on the number of rebates, but they do sometimes run out. So I always try and get there early in the week. I am pretty addicted to my free, or almost free, after rebate copy paper. ;D

Today was the first day I've felt like hounding since the storms last week. I did some quick deals at a few local stores.
Family Dollar: $3.00/2 jars of Planters sunflower seeds less 2 $1.00 MQ= $1.00 OOP
Dollar General: $2.00/2 bags Werthers Caramels less 2 $.75 IPQ= $.50 OOP
Walmart: $5.64 OOP for 1 pineapple, 1 bag carrots, 6 bars of Dove soap, 2 Curad hydrogen peroxide, 1 Bayer 20 ct., Joy ice cream cones, and 2 bananas. I pricematche pineapple @ $1.49 and soaps for $1.00 each. I used 2 $.50 IPQ Curad, 1 $3.00 MQ Bayer, 3 $1.50/2 Dove IPQ and $.55 Joy IPQ.
Rite Aid: I spent $3.56 and saved $43.25 and got 2 Zest BW, 2 Revlon NP, 2 Revlon emory boards, 2 Clairol HC (clearanced), 2 Coppertone sun screen and 8 bags of peg chocolate candy. I started with $23.00 UPs and ended with $28.00. I don't have my receipt handy but the Revlon VV helped keep my total lower and I had the MQ's for Clairol, Revlon, Zest and Coppertone.
Dancin: I never knew rats ate grapes. Yuk!!!
Beachbum: Good job at Staples. I'm waiting for my rewards to come. I turned in 7 ink cartridges last month.
Today is the first day in over a week that we didn't hit 100 degrees or more. It was nice to be outside.

I recently started (March) a subscription to the Chicago Tribune. Good thing it was SUPER CHEAP via Groupon. I am SOOOO disappointed. For starters, I have had to call 3x about issues (billed, MIA papers, late delivery).
Also, I can remember when it took 4 hours to completely read the Sun paper + go over the ads. It has been WAAAY less than 2 hours. Not much news. Commentary is eh. Letters to the editor VERY limited publication…………..I am unlikely to renew even at this super cheap rate. I will check the upcoming coupon previews to decide if I even want the paper from week to week, and that’s w/my primary stores NOT taking IPs.
Also, the stores I get the ads for are never all the same week to week. Some weeks I get the local produce markets, some weeks I get the independents near my dad. The ONLY stores I always get are Albertsons, Safeway, CVS, WAG & Target.
Am I nuts or am I seeing a LOT of coupons over about the last month for items even the major (Albertsons, Meijer, Safeway) stores do NOT stock?

To tell you the truth, the only time I notice is when a high valued coupon comes out for a new product. There have been several times when I have not been able to find the product in our stores and have been really bummed cuz that's the best time to get the product.

I am pretty addicted to my free, or almost free, after rebate copy paper. ;D beachbum: Thanks. I think I'll make the loop this morning. I want to burn my UPs at RA because I don't see anything I want/need in the ad previews before they expire. Then I'll go to Staples. I don't mind the rebates at Staples. If you don't need office supplies, there's paper products and items that an office might need to buy for their kitchenette.

Hello everyone - I'm a newbie to couponing and would like to gain some knowledge and start learning how to use coupons effectively. I've read the first page of this thread and thought I'd jump in since that's what is suggested.
My situation: We are not on a tight budget so I've never tried to coupon much. And I'm bad at it - as in I'd find a coupon bring to store, buy item, then forget to get it out and give to cashier. This year we've made changes in our diet to start living a healthier lifestyle because of some chronic health issues and just to be healthier over all. These changes include: Using only non-toxic cleaning and body products Buying organic meats (right now just doing chicken) Buying only organic fruits/veggies Very limited box/processed foods I'm gluten free (dh is not)
As you can imagine this has made our grocery bill go up which is why I'm here. I was averaging about 400 a month for groceries including all toiletries and pet supplies and now I'm just over 500. It's just dh, me, cat, dog. I grocery shop at hy-vee (local chain) and sometimes target. A lot of the non-toxic house and body products I get online or at local health food store. None of our grocery stores do double/triple coupons (I've asked) and our sunday ads are terrible for coupons. Hyvee has an add but it rarely involves coupons and if it does it's only a couple. I have a CVS card but to be honest - never went online to set up an account so I've never received any rewards. I have a mental note to do this now. A lot of times when I have a coupon it's for like 50 cents off toilet paper but then I find another brand is cheaper over all anyway so why get the one with the coupon? It seems like an impossible task to make it work well but I know many of you do it successfully.
I'm open to any suggestions you have for how to start lowering our bill and couponing!

rljrdn: Welcome! Mambo Sprouts has coupons for organic/gluten free products. You'll also sometimes find them on coupons.com.
While using coupons for food at the store is wonderful, and we all do that, for me the savings come from buying health and beauty and household products using store card rewards/coupons and manufacturer coupons. For instance, CVS just sent me a $2 off Mabelline cosmetic coupon. That is a CVS coupon. If I had a manufacturer coupon for Mabelline, and CVS had the item on sale or was giving their Earned Bucks back on Mabelline, it would possible be worth getting. That's why it's a good idea to look at the different scenarios/purchases people make here. We don't care if you copy!
Where do you live? There might be someone here who could direct you to a blog for hy-vee. Also, check out Iheartcvs dot com; iheartwags dot com and iheartriteaid com. They usually outline the drug store deals. When you don't pay anything or very little for health, beauty etc., that frees up money for your organic and gluten free products.
I hope that made sense. I'm doing this on the fly!
