Mid-Life Crisis

Mid-life Crisis - whose had one? What did you do? Did it work - did you feel better?

- My brother-in-law just bought a $100,000 sports car.
- My neighbor lost his job and hasn't even been looking. Instead he is trying to run a marathon in under {{enter ridiculous time here}} Hour:Minutes.
- My Dad took a job across the country and made us all move.

Everyone else just seems to cheat on their wife and get a divorce.

Got anything good you did? I'm looking for suggestions that won't completely blow up my life.

I don't think my dad had a mid life crisis, or at least not one that was noticeable to me. I am ready to have a midlife crisis every day.

I'm still 10 years off from mine. I don't know what I'd do - getting older doesn't really bother me that much.

Well, the quitting my job and working out, while buying an expensive sports car sounds like the best of all worlds. But, they are mutually exclusive in my world.

I'm actually not bothered by the age either - it is the rut. Same house, same job, same ol' bs at work (even if I do switch jobs), same routine, same, same, same, same.

maybe I'd go on a travel binge, or write a dirty book.... just something to break up the monotony. I hear you on that.

Haven't done it yet, but I'm thinking when the rut gets unbearable I'll quit with little notice and change careers completely. Haven't decided on my second career yet though. I just have to hold on until my mid forties so the kids are through college.

I think at some point, you do look at your life and wonder if you could have taken things in a different direction. Not that you are unhappy but as you go through life, when you walk through one door, then by default, you are not walking through another.

I tend to find people who are going through a mid-life crisis are relunctant to name it.

My father said he had to take the job and move, because there were no jobs in the area we lived in. Clearly baloney, since not only did he already have a job in that area, but a few years later was promoted to manage all the people who were still in the old location, and did his old job.

My brother-in-law says that he just wanted to own the car.

My neighbor says that he is looking, but there is nothing because the economy is bad.

All the people divorcing are saying all sorts of things, and none of it is their fault.

DH and I talk quite a bit about this. I think we are both going through a bit of a mid-life crisis right now. There isn't any real change on our horizon and while we don't regret marriage/kids/jobs it sometimes feels like we are caught in wheel that is just pointlessly spinning.

I think I had one in my early 30's. So I quit working and made some changes. DH just got fat when he had his. He's still having it.

Lost 40 pounds and got a tattoo. I'd love a new jet ski, a sports car, or a boat, but I'm too cheap. I'd find a boyfriend but that's just another thing on my "to do" list.

Some days I'm so frustrated by the sameness, and the seeming lack of time for "fun". You sometimes wonder "is this really IT?"

I travelled for my mid life crisis. I've been a few places in the last 20 years, but not like I used to, before I had kids.

I just took my long awaited trip to Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. It was a whirlwind 5 day adventure.

I've been itching for a couple of years to travel the way I used to-a destination, but lots of flexibility in the details. No set agenda like you need with kids. I signed on with DH knowing that this was something we would never share. Luckily he is OK with me travelling without him.

It wasn't for long, but it was just enough to take the edge off the travel bug. I think I can hold out until the kids get out of college before I NEED to go again.

At what age is one supposed to have their midlife crisis? I thought about having one when I turned 40 but was informed by a friend that I was too late as there was no way I was living past 70. My real life friends are mean.

I think it happens in "Middle Age" and Middle age is actually the middle of your adulthood - so ((70 - 18)/2) + 18 = 44 is right smack in the middle of middle age, so that is a great time to have a crisis.

I'm 42 and have definitely had that "is this it!?" feeling for the last 3 years or so. I regularly catch myself uttering, to myself, "I hate my life" or something similar, and have to really remind myself that my life is ok, and certainly could be a hell of a lot worse. My life is definitely nothing like I'd imagined. I often think about making a complete change, moving to a different part of the country and starting over. I have the tattoo appointment booked in a few weeks....LOL...but, I already have 4, so, it's not really a midlife crisis. I'd love to find me a boy-toy...hmmm...where would I even start to look?!

You can travel with me, bis, but you have to be prepared to change direction at the drop of a hat.

On one of my incredibly planned trips I have a plane ticket and a hotel room booked. Sometimes I just have the destination in mind and the rest is a crap shoot.

The friend I travelled with likes to be a bit more organized-she booked flights, hotel and a car. It was convenient.

- everything get on my last nerves
- feel like divorcing my wife and moving somewhere new and start all over.
- told a few family members to go fuck off this past weekend.
- currently not answering my phone or talking to anyone
- people just piss me off
