There are tons of details that are left out of the movie, and it's so awesome to be able to hear Katniss' thoughts in the book, which you miss out on in the movie.
At the same time, I am sooooooooooo relieved they didn't try to have her narrate every scene. I absolutely hate it when the main character narrates the plot, it takes away from the action for me. And in this case unless she was talking ceaselessly, it still wouldn't have come close to the inner thoughts that the book provides.
It'll be interesting to see how they deal with that when it comes to some of her later conflicts where you really need to be privy to her thoughts to understand that she's not a complete conniving bitch...

Basically they show the happy family at the beginning of the movie without ever mentioning that the father is really the mother's uncle... so they go more in depth than that in the book?
Oho, it's WAY worse than that. Want a spoiler warning for the series? They definitely go into more depth, this is one of the central conflicts of the story. But I won't tell you why unless you want to know.

Are we supposed to set up a vote poll today? On iPhone now.. I can get on and do a new thread later ... ? I don't think mods should mind one more, short... 3 days ? ... Thread...
Up to you... I think we only have a few nominations so far - if you want to wait longer, that's okay by me.

Just some advice to those using the library to get hunger games - if you think at all you might want to read books 2 & 3, then I would get on the list now. I was like 120th on the list for book 1 & got the book really quick because the library has over 500 copies. But when I signed up to get book 2, I was 620th on the list & the library has only 200 copies of book 2. Not sure if every library will have the same problem I plan to just buy the next 2, otherwise it will probably take 1-2 months waiting on a library copy.

Same problem here. I think I'm 150th on the list for book 2. I made a deal with myself last night. Book 2 will be purchased if I get my butt up 4 days this week and work out before work (which would be 5 am ). Saw the movie this weekend. While I'm glad they didn't deviate from the book, it kind of made for a boring experience since I knew exactly what was going to happen. I did manage to get my bff hooked though and graciously lent her my copy.

NominationPeople of the Book. I checked it out for my NOOK based on Gardening Grandma's review of it on here (and it was the only one I could get my hands on last night! lol). It is SO GOOD! I am not even half way thru it and it's already made me cry twice. It's very rare anymore that I find a book that ropes me in so quickly. I think it'd be great for a book club type discussion. I am thinking of just buying the Hunger Games. $30 for the entire set for the NOOK. I'll never get a paper copy from the library at this rate and the edrive only has them in audio book format. Grr. . .

I wanted to check them out because I get thru YA lit so fast it's a waste to purchase them. Only YA books I've really read over and over are the Harry Potter books. But $10 a book isn't that bad. I also want to read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. It's coming out as a movie and the title made me curious. I'm freaking 37th on the list for the ebook.

We've corrupted you. I was so proud of myself when I successfully downloaded a library book. DH thinks I am a huge dork.

I'll definitely be reading the series again but we've established that I'm a repeat offender when it comes to reading books.

PS - keep the discussion questions coming! We've got some great ones to start us off, but maybe people want to provide discussion questions for later on in the book?

I just read the Hunger Games. It took 3.5 hours. DBF looked at me like I was a freak because I did it in one sitting while he was playing Video games...

I managed to score a copy of Hunger games from a friend. Boy, was I in the right place at the right time. Someone else walked up to return it to her and I snagged it. She told me to hurry because she had two other people that wanted to borrow it. Beats being number 217 on the waiting list at the library!

I am #53 on the list for the 2nd book at the library. The 1st book was given to me as a gift for my b-day. I don't buy many books and typically use the library but I might actually end up buying the 2nd and 3rd books.

Are we discussing the entire trilogy on May 1 or just book one with two and three to follow later?

We'll start with Book One and see how far we get. If a lot of people are having trouble getting their hands on Book Two, I don't want to ruin it for them.
Still taking discussion questions on Book One.

Firebird - Sorry for the delay about answering your question. Have been busy for the past couple of days. No, I don't want a spoiler alert for the Dollanganger series unless it won't effect ruining any of the story lines for all the books after book 1 lol. If it won't ruin any of the story going forward for me, then I'd definitely be interested in hearing what they talked about in book 1 that they didn't show in the movie.
Moneyjenny made me decide to confess that I ordered a Kindle Fire on Monday lol. I got concerned because on Tuesday, about 24 hours after I ordered it, it still hadn't shipped, and I've never experienced that with Amazon. So I decided to call and see what the hold up was and he said that since I chose super saver shipping, they ship the package out on the day that has the cheapest shipping rates for them? Weird but whatever lol. Maybe they have certain contracts with USPS or UPS. But I am proud to say that I only spend $62 on it because I had $125 worth of Amazon gift cards from a survey site that I do surveys for and then I had another $12 of Amazon gift cards. So anyway it finally shipped tonight and it said in the email that it would arrive tomorrow! I was thinking, how could it arrive tomorrow if it just now shipped?!? So I track it and see that it's already in Nashville tonight (I live about an hour northwest of Nashville) but had no tracking info before Nashville, so maybe they're shipping it from Nashville? Who knows, I'm just ecstatic that I should be getting it tomorrow! lol

I should really start it. My coworkers are almost done with #3. They won't let me stop after #1 and both have the whole trilogy.
I broke down and bought The Help over the weekend. Happy Easter to me!

DH bought book 1 on I guess Monday night. I found it Tuesday morning. He took it from me and I found it on my desk this morning. ;D Due to all the stuff that I had to get done today, I finally was able to pick it up around 1. Finished it a few minutes ago. I am thinking that I will have to figure out how to get books 2 and 3 real soon. For those who do want a hard copy. DH paid $7.xx at Walmart for book 1. I don't know how much the others are. But I have a feeling we will be checking soon. Can't wait to see what everyone else thinks.....

I think that is part of why I'm waiting to start it. At best I've had maybe a hour or so in the evening to devote to it. I have a three day weekend this weekend. I have it with me today and I have to get allergy shots tonight so maybe I'll start it then while I'm waiting.

Wow! I just checked and I am now #42 on the list for the 2nd book at the library. Seems to be going quickly so maybe I will get the 2nd book sooner than I thought. I went ahead and held the 3rd book and I am #94. It said they have ordered several more copies though.
