UPDATE 4/2/2012: We are beginning a discussion of The Hunger Games on May 1st, 2012 (the delay is to allow everyone sufficient time to track down the book and read it). We encourage everyone to participate! What can you do in the meantime? 1. If you would like to nominate a book for the book club to read next, feel free to do so. One nomination per poster, please. Oped has generously volunteered to keep track of the nominations and the voting. The voting process will be decided and announced after all of the nominations have been entered. Nominations will close and voting will commence on Friday, April 6th so make sure to get your favorite book in before then!![/u] 2. If you have already read The Hunger Games and would like to provide a discussion question or two, feel free! You can either post them on the thread or PM them to me (Firebird) if you prefer they not be seen in advance. If you are participating in either of these pre-games, please write "DISCUSSION QUESTION" or "NOMINATION" at the top of your posts in bold for easy reference. Thank you

I haven't read the book so I am in! It would be fun to be able to discuss a book without carving out a specific time to go in person.

Idea stealer.
I'm telling you, the book is having an enormous influence on me.
Besides, you wanted a finance book club. I wanted a non-finance book club. It's completely different.

I would, except I belong to a real life book club and can barely keep up with the reading list as it is.
We just finished The Dome by Stephen King, it's about tyrants and power grabs - which has financial undertones.
I was deeply disappointed at the ending, though. Kind of like finding the Wizard of Oz isn't really a wizard at all. So I wouldn't recommend it.

How about we have the first chapter read by Wednesday 4/4? It's just a random day that popped into my mind ;D

I loved 9/10ths of the Dome and was so disappointed at the end.

Okay, now I have two books I have to read! Actually I would love to be part of a non-financial book club. We could do it over on EE...

Oh why not! Everyone at work has read it and they are deciding who is what character. I've heard that it reads quickly.

Yes, unbelievably quickly. I started it yesterday and I'm at least halfway through. I'm sure I'll finish by Friday if not tonight and then I can go see the movie this weekend. I'm seriously obsessed with this book right now. I think I can guess how it ends but I'm salivating to see what happens next.

Damn it! I wish I could add a line to the budget for books. This would be nice. I guess I will just have to live through you all.

Noooooo, Angel. Kindle? I think it only cost $12 for the trilogy. Damn you! I am so good at being cheap & now you are going to make me go out & spend $12. If you are an Amazon Prime member you can rent it from them for free. ;D It looks like you need an actual kindle to do this, correct? I just use my phone or Ipad to read kindle books, I don't have an actual kindle. I'm not even sure if my prime membership would count since I have one of those amazon mom deals where I got a free prime membership.

I've been meaning to read The Hunger Games anyway. My older daughter is raving about it.
She found the first and second book online for free through Google, which led to a conversation about online piracy.

Is it wrong that I am more excited about the non-financial book club than I am about the financial book club

One of my work friends convinced someone on my team to do it. He'll want to know who finally convinced me. Gotta take advantage of the last couple days of Chase paying 5% on Amazon. I don't know if it would matter if you don't have a Kindle. I would think Prime is Prime no matter how you got it. Worth a shot before you pay for it. Firebird is very convincing

Can I be in the book club even if I skip some books? LOL I love to read but I don't wanna read Hunger Games. I saw the movie and it's not my cup of tea. Maybe I'll just lurk here.

If you tell me she's not interested in Twilight, she will officially become the coolest tween I know.

If you tell me she's not interested in Twilight, she will officially become the coolest tween I know. She spent a week making fun of my wife and I when we watched the Twilight movies as part of torture cinema for the podcast. Their rooms were actually completely clean for a few days because we told them if they didn't get them done we were going to make them watch the movies with us.

Never too early to nominate books for future rounds. Might as well talk about something while people are obtaining the book. These are some of the books in my Kindle that I've either read recently or are on deck: -The Help -Daughter's Keeper -Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother -Meaning of Matthew: My Son's Murder in Laramie -We Need to Talk About Kevin -Ethical Slut Some of those would make good conversations. I'll keep thinking though.

Has anyone found it for $12, it looks like it is $19 on amazon. Or I guess I could just buy the first one for $5. Geez, I am cheap
