I'm glad that some of you already wanted to read Fifty Shades of Grey too. I just saw it on the B&N website like a week ago and thought it sounded good and it seems to be pretty popular.
Firebird, ahhh, so you are one of those who reads books more than once lol. I have only ever done that with 1 book, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I had to read it in English class in high school and I enjoyed it, but then I read it again a couple years ago because I wanted to read it again from a more "adult" perspective lol. Other than that, I have never read a book more than once. I guess it's just personal preference because I rarely watch movies more than once either lol.
I also like being on YM and I hope we're allowed to stay. I never go to EE.

Oh, I almost forgot. I wanted to ask ya'll if any of you use the Goodreads website. I use it faithfully because I like to keep track of what books I've read and what books I want to read so that I don't forget any. It'd be cool to add each other on there and get ideas for books to read that we may not have necessarily discovered otherwise.

Firebird, ahhh, so you are one of those who reads books more than once lol. Oh definitely. Can't reread a favorite book too many times (and I'm really not exaggerating, I have books that I've probably read 20-50 times). I'm sure this habit precludes me from reading as many new books as I might, but that's okay. I still read a lot of new books. I used to keep track until it stopped being fun - I always felt pressure to read more new books than the previous year. Some people are comfort eaters - I'm a comfort reader

NOMINATION
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
I loved how the author wove a story around all these random old freaky photos scattered thruout the book.

Nomination
The Tiger's Wife
I really liked how this story was woven together and it has a lot of interesting things to discuss.
The plot line is about a doctor whose grandfather just died. The plot revolves around the stories her grandfather told her and she is seeking out the truth to them.

AAhhh....still didn't get a copy of Hunger Games! I will though. I vote for Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult. I didn't read it yet. If you want one that's a tiny bit older, House Rules was excellent.

BTW, I'm about 3/4 through Book Three of the Hunger games series... I had to take a break for a couple days between the second and third books, it was just too intense. It's been a LONG time since I've been so invested in a story.
At this point, I have no idea how it's going to end. None whatsoever. But I have a feeling I won't like it.

Finally finished the series. It was really good but I agree with a friend of mine who said 1 > 2 > 3. Mockingjay just didn't have the same intensity as the first two and I stopped liking a lot of the characters. Nonetheless, I'd still call it the best series I've read in some time. May 1st needs to hurry up and get here so we can start talking about it!!!

I am officially hooked, FB...I had to force myself to quit after 2 hours of reading. I think I'm right in the middle of the book; I reserved book 2 and 3 at the library (#150 on the waiting list though )

fucking hell. I'm still at slot 98 for the Hunger Games at my library. DH requested it at the school library, and they had to get it on loan from another library. And of course that library cancelled it. Don't make me buy this book!

Saw Hunger Games movie. It was good enough that I want to read the book because you can just tell it left a lot out of the story (you could only see the action and not any thoughts/emotions/strategy). I have the darn book on my Kindle but won't let myself start reading until I finish my IRL bookclub book about Henrietta Lacks. I have to admit it is KILLING ME to do this!

Turns out our library system has around 500 hard copies & even more on order. Which really makes me wonder what they do with the books later & if it financially makes sense for a library to order so many copies when it will be a short-term demand.

Firebird - I am also taking a break between books. After finishing The Hunger Games, I read a book by Phillippa Gregory, and now I'm reading Death Comes to Pemberley, which is a spoof on a sequel of Pride and Prejudice. Absolutely love it so far. I'm so torn because a lady that I work with has gotten me very intrigued in V.C. Andrews. I watched the movie of the first book in what I believe was her first series, Flowers in the Attic, from the Dollanganger series. Now I really wanna read that entire series and she has soooo many other series that sound good too! There's just not enough hours in the day for reading lol.
mandyms - My e-mail is pkelley831@yahoo.com if you'd like to friend me on Goodreads.
skinnykids - I read the book and saw the movie this past weekend and you are 100% right in your assessment. There are tons of details that are left out of the movie, and it's so awesome to be able to hear Katniss' thoughts in the book, which you miss out on in the movie. Honestly, if I hadn't read the book first and already knew what was going on, I mighta thought the movie was kinda lame lol.
Angel D - That's so surprising to hear that your library does that! I don't think ours here would ever do that and the county library that I go to is pretty big. I have the benefit of being able to capitalize on 2 different libraries lol. I have the one on Ft. Campbell where my hubby and I both work, and the one in the county where we live.

Pammy, just sent you a request.
I completely forgot about V.C. Andrews; those used to be the books to read when I was in H.S. She has about 4-5 series (I think I remember she died and someone else started writing series in her name). Anyway, once you read the Dollanganger series (and the movie left out a MAJOR detail that tends to run in pretty much every series if I remember), all the others are the exact same story with a different setting/name of title character.

Which detail was that? (I haven't seen the movie and I'm curious.)
I've read the Dollanganger series, which is pretty good, and the "Dawn" series (forget that family's name). Also okay. But Andrews definitely has a set of stock characters (the ingenue that's too beautiful to be let out near a busy street, the boyfriend that turns out to be her brother or vice versa, the older man lover, the evil grandmother, etc.) that she draws on in every series so they get repetitive after awhile.
They're good popcorn reading.

They're good popcorn reading. I don't think the movie went into the incestual dynamic. I remember reading the books before seeing the movie (and can't remember if I saw the movie on basic cable or HBO, so that may have affected the actual content of the movie); and if they did, I only remember them hinting at it in the movie.

Didn't the movie come out several decades ago? Perhaps that was simply considered too risque for the time, especially if it was a made-for-TV movie.

Well, like I said, I watched the movie, and didn't read the book, so I only know what happened in the movie. Basically they show the happy family at the beginning of the movie without ever mentioning that the father is really the mother's uncle. So after she goes back to live with her parents, they really only mention it one time so that they can explain why they are so angry at her and why God is supposedly so angry at her. So they go more in depth than that in the book?
