I can actually see an issue if she started pulling the formula off the bags with the bag still on the conveyor, it wouldn't necessarily trip the sensor to stop the conveyor and could be pulled underneath the conveyor into the workings of it, generally cashiers are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and till of their conveyor/station, and wouldn't want to stop doing their actual work to switch to another station or have a problem with their own station as it could reflect badly on them.

totally true. People coming into the store with empty bags was always a big red flag for us. Of course, this was 30 years ago, before reusable, recycled bags. And you bring up another good point. The cashier has to empty the bag to make sure that merchandise being scanned and merchandise coming up on the register are the same thing, but that there are no other items concealed in the bag. So, 30 years ago. Was that before the cameras & everything? Did you walk the store looking for suspicious activity? I like that your title was store detective, never heard that before. "Store detective" was a common job title before electronic surveillance became the norm. I worked in an upscale department store in Beverly Hills when I was in college, and many of the store detectives were women. They were considered less obviously "store detectives" and they and their male colleagues woud, indeed, follow suspicious people around.

OK, I could giggle, guffaw and snort my way through this thread, hoping not to laugh out loud. Until this.

Dean! You are 'glass half empty' kinda persona aren't you? Nope, not a half glass empty type of guy, just a realist, growing up I worked on mechanical breakdowns every day, I still work with mechanical breakdowns on a daily basis, as a result, I try to avoid things that can cause things to break down and give me or others a headache. If that means I need to take an extra minute to do something small, so be it, I have seen people lose limbs because they hurried a little bit in repairing or maintaining equipment, my wife almost lost her finger one day because she got in a rush and didn't follow all the correct steps in something she was doing, just not worth the rush if it can cause a problem.
