pinkbow: WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! We're very happy to have you join our little group. Since you tend to buy the same items regularly, do you know the rock bottom prices on those items (the lowest sale price)? If not, the first thing you will want to do is put together a price book so that you know when the items that you buy are on sale at their cheapest price. When that happens, instead of buying the (1) that you need this week, you buy several at the really cheap price for use later (taking expiration into consideration, of course). Do you already get the Sunday paper for the coupons? Do you know people (family, friends, neighbors, or co-workers) who might be willing to pass their Sunday coupons on to you? Do you check a blog on-line for the best coupon deals? The gals here are extremely friendly and will bend over backward to help you, so ask as many questions as you need to and I'm sure someone will help you out. Ok, let's see if I can answer these and get some ideas! I know general prices of the rock bottom sales, and have stocked up on some things in the past. We don't have a lot of space to store things, so it tends to be about a month's worth of some items (cereal). We do not get the Sunday newspaper, but I'm going to visit my parents this weekend and will check theirs out to see where I can begin. Unfortunately we don't have any family in the area, nor do our friends receive any newspapers, so there's no one to find coupon inserts. I have no problem buying a Sunday paper, so that sounds like the best start. I have looked at a few blogs in the past, but not very in depth. I didn't find anything that was very useful at the time, but I will give it another shot. Constanz- I post infrequently on YM, so you may have seen me there. I generally just read about what other people have to say since my area of expertise is more in spending money than anything else I love to travel and save most of my "fun" money for that. With food prices rising, my "fun" money isn't adding up as quickly, so I'm going to see what I can do to make a dent in our grocery bill.

CRAP!! Mine is $1/2. The last coupon was $1/1. I need to read the entire coupon. Oh well, I still have my rain check. Maybe they'll come out with a $1/1 before it expires. Thanks anyway. murphath: I didn't see that these were on sale at Nob Hill. My rain check is from Safeway.

There was a clearance section at my Vons/Safeway yesterday with 50% off all kinds of natural/organic brands including Health Valley, MaraNatha nut butters, Justin's nut butters, Kashi cereal and more. I printed some more coupons including one for Barbara's cereals and am going back for more.
8 Lara bars Regular price: $1.39 -50% clearance -0.69 - $1/4 IP =45 cents each
2 Cascadian farms organic granola bars Reg. price $5.24 -50% clearance -$2.62 -$0.85/1 (one of them doubled) IP =$1.69 each
1 Fresh Express spinach 9 oz. Reg. $2.99 -$2 (raincheck) - $1 (0.75 doubled coupon) = FREE
Reg = 24.59, paid $6.98 = saved 72%
That's it!!! I'm e-mailing Jenny'sMom and telling her we want her back on the board!

Welcome, Pinkbow! If you like the products at Whole Foods then you can try these sites for coupon matchups. If you're just going there because it's convenient then you can get food for much less at other stores, including the drug stores when the sales are right.
couponing 101 dot com saving cents with sense dot come organic deals dot com Click on the tab that says Grocery Stores or something like that to find Whole Foods. A lot of these coupons are printable so you would not need a newspaper subscription for these.

twinsandmore: I have adopted the habit of blacking out unnecessary info on my receipts. The rebate processors don't need to know the last four digits of my CC, the other items I purchased in that shopping trip, etc. The rebates almost always say to circle the item and price, not the final total of the receipt or other coupons used. I have done this with the last 10 rebates I submitted and haven't had a problem yet. I do keep copies of the unaltered receipt and rebate form submission to help IF there is ever a problem I should have to call about. thank you....I will do just that in the future. I didn't think of it.

so I putzed around and had ecb's that expire today so I just send hubby off to do a deal for me. Fingers crossed. Hopefully if all works out he will spend 3.98 on 2 gallons of milk, blink eye tears 8.99, crest twin pack 6.99 and 2 halmark cards @4.50 depending on their individual price I sent him with 19 in ecb's but 5 of em expired 2 days ago so we will see their friendliness on that and 4.00 in coupons. He should get back with 14.99 in ecb's and oop should be around a dollar or so..if it works out I will be pleased with my quick deal as I am not feeling well enough to put too much effort into it.
On a side note I have seen the convos regarding stockpiling and I have to admit I strive to have a stockpile for several reasons. One I have 3 year old twins and a 5 year old so running out to the store real quick because I am out of something is major undertaking at best. Two is hubby and I have been having real problems and there has been a lot of serious talk of separating and all I can think is if I have stock of as much as I can it will help me get through at least for awhile. I have 2 kiddos with special needs and 3-4 appts a week for their therapies so me just going back to work is not really an option. If we were to separate I would be scrambling to get by and counting every penny and square of toilet paper to do it lol I am so grateful for all the knowledge all of you have given me over the years which has in turn given me hope that I could do it if I had to. Thank you all so much!!!

Tops had Mueller's spaghetti et al on sale for $1/box. I had a bunch of $0.55/1 Q's from Mueller. Was able to get a dozen boxes for no cost.
They also had Mission taco kits on sale for $1.50 and I had a few $1/1 Q's from a tear pad that I had found some weeks ago. $0.50 cents a box is great as it contains not only the taco shells but the packet of seasoning to cook the meat in, they're usually $0.62 for the Ortega packet at WM so very good deal, got 8 boxes.
Earned $0.40 off gas as well which saved me $6.28 in total for my fill up.
Seems for me that the a lot of the great grocery deals are at Tops these days, not always Wegmans. JMHO

Ladies,
Is 3.88 a good price for 50 oz Tide? I have not seen any good detergent deals this year (other than the BOGO A&H laundry pods with the rebate) and thank god for stock piles, but SW has Tide for 4.88 this week and I have a couple of 1$ off Tide Qs from home mailers. Wondering if I should buy a couple of bottles, since we prefer Tide. TIA

SuziQP8ntDo you have RA? I can't remember if you do or not - sorry. I will post my RA deals this week and free shampoo is one of them. ----- Ok, now onto my deals today. Slim, yes, but still worthwhile: RASamy Fat Shampoo Stylers or Hair Color $8.99 (or $7.19 with gold) $2 IP (I have it in PDF, but I can't see the attachment button?) $2 VV $5 UP Free or MM if you have a silver/gold discount Leanna, Sorry I just got back to a computer. So hard to follow you all on my phone. I have a RA just north of here, definitely could go there for free shampoo. I've never done anything there so I'm not 100% sure how it works.

That's about twice what I would pay for laundry detergent. The best price I've ever gotten for Tide was $1.49 for the 50 oz. However, that's also the only time I've ever bought Tide, as I am not brand specific and it's very expensive. I will say that the coupons we are getting for Tide this weekend are absolute crap: .25/1, .50/2 or 1.00/3. Yes, seriously, $1 off of 3 bottles of Tide...so you may want to take that into account.

Have you heard from her at all? I'm hoping that she's made tons of friends in Iowa and simply doesn't have time for the computer! Her Jenny and my son graduated from high school the same year. Since DS is graduating college on May 19th, I assume Jenny will be finished around that time as well. Time flies.... I also wonder how Grocery Boy is faring. If memory serves, he was going to school part time. Funny how we miss folks that leave this little piece of cyberspace!

Sometimes they will have it for $5.99 on sale minus $1.00=$4.99. I do that with store rewards on DH's card where I like to use them right away on household.

I know I did not pay much last year while stockpiling the Wisk, but there have been no good Qs and no deals for detergent. I don't have to buy it right now, so maybe I will keep looking. I remember before I started here, I used to pay 17.99 for 300 oz Tide - yikes

Hey guys, just wanted to share something really cool! Apparently not all big companies lost their way....I got a $10 check today from Kelloggs stating that they were sorry but their gas cards had been depleted and had none they could send. So instead, they sent me a $10 check in place of the gas card!! They DID NOT have to do that and I am going to write to their PA dept and tell them what an awesome job they did!!That is so cool to see a company still have some good customer service! ;D

I got some really great grocery deals at one of our local chains today! I won't give all the specifics cuz I don't think anyone else here has this store. They were doing a sale where they had a large number of items for .88 when you buy in multiples of 8. Unfortunately, not many had coupons to pair with them, but there were still good deals to be had. One of the items was Coke 2 ltrs. and I found some hangtags in the store for $1 off wyb 2 2ltrs and $4 in meat, produce, bakery, deli or frozen! And, there were a few store brand items that have $1/1 coupons out, so, I did 3 trips, spent only 24.38! 8 Diet Coke 2 ltr., .88, used 4 $1 off wyb $4 above 4 Diet 7-Up, .88,-$1/2 IP's 2 Weis Croutons,.88 1 Weis Ketchup, .88, MM after Q 1 Weis Mustard, .88, MM after Q 2 Weis Mayo, .50 after Q 2 Smithfield Bacon pouch, $4, used $1/1 blinkies and 2 Coke hangtags 2 Weis BBQ sauce, .88, MM after Q 2 Celeste Garlic Cheese Breadsticks, .88 1 Pierogi,.88 1 Rhodes frozen rolls, $2.69, .55/1, doubled to $1, used Coke hangtag for another $1 off 3 Ken's dressing, .88, used Buy 2, get 1 Free MC, part of .88 deal, coupon took off 1.79 1 Lofthouse cookies, 3.99, .75/1 IP, doubled to $1, used Coke hangtag for another $1 off 1 2 sl. strawberry cheesecake, 1.75 w/50% off Q on package Lots of great deals and very few coupons needed! I want to go back tomorrow and do at least 1-2 more rounds of the 8 for .88, using the Coke hangtags and the MM store Q's

Wondering if I should buy a couple of bottles, since we prefer Tide. TIA It's a decent price, SaveInLA. I keep a Price Book, and Tide is what I have to use on my husband's work clothes. (I do buy a couple other detergents that I get at bargain basement prices to use on our whites, but mostly I just buy Tide.) Here are the prices from my Price Book on Tide: 1/2/12 Fred Meyer's 50 oz Sale Price $4.99 MQ $2 = $2.99/bottle or 6 cents per oz 2/24/12 Safeway 50 oz Sale Price $5 MQ $2 Doubler .50 = $2.50/bottle or 5 cents per oz 3/1/12 Fred Meyer's 50 oz Sale Price $5 EQ $2.50 = $2.50/bottle or 5 cents per oz ----- The sale price plus MQ you listed = 7.8 cents per ounce. It's not bad, so if you're low/out, it would be ok to pick up a bottle or 2. But, what I do is I wait for the $2 mq for Tide that comes out every few months and then combine that with a sale (as you can see above.) The $2 mq's do not come out all the time - it seems like they come out once a quarter or so. Now, of course, I don't have a crystal ball, so P&G could stop putting out the $2 mq and the above deal you listed might be the new low on Tide. It's a gamble...you'll have to decide for yourself what you want to do. Hopefully the info I provided will help you. If they don't put out a new $2 mq in the June P&G insert, I'll be concerned that they are no longer doing the $2 mq.

You'll need to sign up for a video value account here: riteaid.adperk.com/ You'll watch the video for Samy & then print out the coupon. I can't seem to post the IP here, but just PM me with an e-mail address & I'll e-mail you the IP. You would pay $5 OOP and then receive a $5 UP which you can use on any purchase. So, if you don't normally do RA, this might not be the best deal for you. The best way to do the drugstores truthfully is to shop them semi-regularly so you can roll rewards from one purchase to another. I'm not sure yet what the deals look like for next week at RA.

Saveinla, that looks like a good price for Tide to me. If you are partial to Tide then I would get a bottle or two at the $6-Q plus any UPs you have. If you are not getting Tide because you feel it does a better job on greasy uber dirty clothes, which i think it does, then I would skip it and wait for something else to go on sale. Just my 2 cents One thing I do which seems different than others here is I don't go by price per ounce. I go buy price per load. All the bottles say how many loads they do and different brands of detergent with the same number of ounces will give different numbers ofloads. Some of the concentrated detergents can be wildly different. I was watching CNBC this morning. They had the CEO of P&G on as a guest. He was talking about how their earnings this past quarter were lower than expected and dividends were going to be decreased. He said that inflation had taken a big bite out of profits. We think of inflation as the price on the shelf but he was talking about the rise in prices of commodities that they have to buy to make the products. I don't know if that will have any impact on future promotions in the coupon book but if I were a betting girl I would bet on lower coupon values for the immediate future at least out of P&G. As Lena would say I could be wrong. I have been before.

Thanks for the feedback leanna & beach. We never get 2$ Tide Qs - at least not in the past year, so I think I will check my Qs and buy a bottle or 2 with Ups.

I will post my RA trip today evening, but watch those April VV - especially the candy section. All single serve candy are 2 for 1$ and there are VV for Reeses cups for 50c off 2 and Oreos for 1$/2. Free oreos and cheap Reeses. There is also a 50 c Dove singles Q on coupons.com.
Ocean spray nasal rinse will be free if you watch the adperk video (those are manufacturer Qs and don't expire until 2013 ) and also have the allergy booklet Qs. My stores just put out the allergy booklets in the front with the Ads. HTH

As Lena would say I could be wrong. I have been before. I always pay attention to the price of commodities. Last year when I heard that the price of cotton would be rising, I went to Costco and bought DH 3 or 4 packages of white t-shirts before the increase in the commodity price was reflected in the price of the product. The problem with P&G is that regular prices of most of their products are on the high side. With the economy the way it is, people are likely to look for similar products that are priced cheaper. I imagine that there are people who are loyal to some of their brands who will continue to buy them regardless, but there are more who simply have had to look for cheaper alternatives. The fact that P&G did not offer those awesome coupon booklets this year is somewhat telling. I was able to use those booklets to stockpile many of their brands in 2011. Without them, I would have bought next to nothing P&G last year because the Sunday insert coupons were not very good. So far this year, I cannot recall buying anything from P&G. I think that their prices are high to begin with. Couple that with their low coupon values, and the result might have been a lower market share over the last year. A good example of this would be Finish vs Cascade. With the great Finish coupons that have been available over the last couple of years, how many of you have purchased Cascade? MAYBE this will all have the opposite effect and P&G will start offering higher coupon values. A girl can only hope.

Any suggestions? I submitted a $10 Sonicare toothbrush rebate in January. I have yet to receive the rebate check. My SO submitted one as well, (different address) and he hasn't received his either.
How would you proceed?
