A lot to reply to, there, ham, but I'll start with free will:
Firstly, you KNOW that its a contentious topic,ie, do we have free will or not, and it can be argued very well both ways;also, would someone who wished to be 'permeated by God, welcome free will,as its a placewhere god wouldnt be,by definition,or it'd be 'Gods will'.
So........'loving JC:
lots of kinds of love,and all of them about knowing the focus of that love;JC lived and died a while back now, and though the story is poignant,and may be the focus of all sorts of strong feelings(it may have evloved that way,with its own momentum?),he isnt someone I am going to meet;neither would he have been the good-looking blond hippy who is depicted;he'd have been dark-skinned;short of stature, and coughed and spat like everyone else(none of which would have diminished him).
He has probably been 'bigged up' over the years by people who couldnt see that he was for real, and felt that the lily needed gilding..........the Christian church is guilty mainly of gilding the lily to the point where it is unrecogniseable(even JC probably would laugh at it,were he to get a ride in the Tardis so he cud check it out)
My contention is that Christians, in 'trying too hard',are giving away the fact,that in their innermost feelings, that they would LIKE to believe,are not sure exactly WHAt to believe,anyway,and actually DONT believe,or they wouldnt spend so much time on upholding things which even JC wouldnt give the time of day to...................(just a theory of mine, that,BTW).
For me, I am all for JC, but think he has been misrepresented by generations of pious,self-seeking people,who have created a myth which doesnt do him justice(he was an ordinary person, which is miracle enough for anyone,and Im sure he knew that, and that was what he was saying).
It is for each of us not to hang on the coat tails of another,but to 'find themselves within themselves', if you catch my drift..........
PS all this is just my own ramblings, so feel free to trash it ifyou like;I shant mind,but if you pick up any points, it'll add intrwest to the chat......................

Actually, Id LOVE to have a heavenly father to make the passage easy(meaningful,even),but the deal seems to be that unless I take it on trust,with no opportunity to try before I buy, that the offers not open...............youd not buy a car on that basis,Im sure..............
Also..............to say that the above isnt so, because your bad times would be worse if not for god, isnt much of an argument.(the footsteps in the sand story?)
Im sure that JCs original 'promise' is a good un,and that things are just as he said, but the huge unthinking,blundering organisation which is christainity as a whole,has turned it into more of a threat than a promise.
The analogy of 'gods children' is a common one(he is our 'father), but if my father had treated me the way Ive seen some folks lives go(no complaints about mine,unless uve got hours to spare!),social services would have been called in and arrests made!
Maybe the aforementioned unfortunate souls were lacking in faith,which was the cause of their problems, but you know how anyone with a bit of backbone responds when told 'do this, or I'll give you a hard time', dont you................the answer is "so shoot me,and dont trip over the mat on your way out"! ;D

Like I said.I'd LOVE it if christianity(or any religion) were so.I'd be there like a shot.the promise sounds great, but unlessl I get more than a promise out of an old book,or referred to various texts (people who run out of ideas,often say 'read this' or read that',as they cant state their case well enough on their own) .

I think what Eggy say's makes a lot of sense, i think.
If the social services where around during Jesus's time, god would have found himself in trouble with the authorities. God acted like Charles Dickins character F.A.G.A.N, he used Jesus to further his own end, which resulted in the death of Jesus. That is no why to treat your son, he was a sacrificial lamb.

Hi mmhmm........surely its right and proper to be derogatory with those who one disagrees with?

Not quite true that Eggy, homosexuals are certainly interested.

A bloke went into a store to see if they sold puff pastry, the man behind the counter was gay, so the bloke left without asking. A friend waiting out side said what's up, didn't they sell puff pastry, the bloke said i didn't ask, the man behind the counter was gay, i didn't want to offend him.

I have just found out why gay people are called gay, it means, Good As You. Not many people know that you know.

Eggy, my back is forever to the wall, otherwise Mrs Jack kicks my arse, she is an hard taskmaster.
I had an e-mail from a German friend, he said there had been some alteration where he work, he has a new gay to learn the ropes. His command of the English language is good, is spelling is atrocious though. I believe he meant to say guy.

Hi everyone, weather seems to be picking up, no rain for a couple of days, if it keeps up, i will have to be using the hose pipe. I remember him Jonbel, you never told us you was a Gypsy, you should only worry if you charged him for telling him is fortune and was wrong. I had my fortune told by a Gypsy when i was 30 years old, most of what she said came true. She also said i would live to be 92 years old and i would walk with the aid of two walking sticks. She never charged for it, she was selling pegs, Mrs Jack bought some pegs and gave her a cup of tea and a buiscuit. I have 12 years left to go, already walk with the aid of one walking stick, and got the second on standby. ;D
