Talking about the salvation army, in the fifties i knew a tamberine basher, he had been a member most of his life. They would go collecting in the pubs and clubs on a weekly basis, the man's christian name was Jessy, a real life Jessie. One day in a pub they coaxed him into having a drink of beer, after his third pint he stood up and said to all the drinkers, for years they have been telling me if you drink alcohol then you are a sinner. I think differently now, i believe you all to be the salt of the earth. He continued to be Salvationist, but occasionaly joined is new friends in the pub.
That little story prooves to me rhat there is hope for us all, Jessy has passed away now, long gone, i do hope he did not mess up and is now with his god, with a pint in his hand.

I thought that is what jesus asked when he was nailed to the cross, but he wasn't talking to Paul, who didn't happen to be a Saint at the time, but god, but he was supposed to have said, father why have you forsaken me. I think that is where people got the impression that he was the son of god, people can say strange things when they are in pain.

If I'd found myself nailed to a tree,despite being a good guy(or even if I wasnt so good), I'd be asking the same thing,specially if up till then, I'd been a believer..............................
or maybe its another 'company-generated' chinese whisper,which is meant to tell you to keep your faith even when youre having salt rubbed into your cuts.............there was noone there at that time who wrote down what was said, which made it easy to 'jolly up the occasion a couple of hundred years later(I cant even remember what was said an HOUR ago,never mind after years...........
I already mentioned 'doubting thomas, who was (innocently,no doubt) invented to make the point that you must believe and not question;this story was apocryphal, also, I expect(tho, as i just said, I wasnt there, so can only go on common sense,and whats most likely).
God-yes, maybe, but BENEVOLENT.....not at all, but neither is God vindictive or cruel..............God is INDIFFERENT...............as god only has human attributes as long as humans give them to him/her/it

Giraffes are interesting animals, with that extra long neck, now the kind of food they like is high up in the trees. This is were i have the dillema, did god grow the tree first, then discovered that there was no animal with a neck long enough to feed of it, so he manufactured the giraffe, or did the tree and giraffe appear at the same time and the giraffs neck grew by straining to reach the leaves. A bit of a puzzle really, i know pigs like truffles, so i know why there snouts are forever poking about in the ground, but Giraffes and tall trees baffle me. I have noticed though that giraffes have rather long tongues, a bit like Mrs Jacks, Giraffs use theirs to pull leaves of the tree's, not allowed to say what Mrs Jack uses her's for, or i will get another tongue lashing.

Mr Lamark thought that aquired characteristics were inherited, so if a giraffe s neck got a little longer from stretching,its ofspring would be simmilarly endowed;Mr Darwin thought that it was a result of natural selection; ie a giraffe who happened to have a longer nech would have the edge on its competitors,and if the extra length was genetic and not developmental, its descendants would tend to have the same edge........................both of them seem suspect to me, but Darwin brought an impressive amount of logic to bear on the issue;more than did Lamark,tho I believe that the Catholic church,with their usual ignorance, championed Lamark(probably because his view made no sense,and so was akin to their views on most other things).
ME?.I think its always been here;just that if your ded, you cant have a ticket to ride......................dunno about Mrs Jacks tongue,tho,Jack.....................I should count your blessings, from the sound of it!

Eggy, could be that people just don't like Giraffes. I have found that some people who are in gainfully employment, spend more of their time on the boards than they do doing their job. Even though i am retired, my time on here is limited, Mrs Jack likes to see me gainfully employed doing jobs around the house. Mrs Jack has more neck than those giraffe women in Africa, you know the ones, those that add rings to their neck to stretch them. Anyway, according to you, you don't have much of a retirement, you appear to have a big building project on the go. ;D

Should stay away from Bournemouth Eggy, the place is full of old age pensioners, and it's a favorite place for pensioner to go to for a holiday, you could easily get lost. Did hear a favourite place for pensioners to visit is the Bandstand, i was invited by Jonbel to a meet up too, but can't make it. Would have enjoyed a bit of Brass band music though, so long as it wasn't the Salvation Army's brass band, to many tambourines for my liking. If you have any spare time after you have finished your building and renovation work, i have a garden shed roof that needs re-felting, can't trust Mrs Jack to do it properly, and the sons and grandsons are all a little busy at the moment.

Hi Sugi...............I think that H2H and ham felt that we were going round in circles,and got bored; I dont blame anyone for getting bored, but its up to each of us to make entertainment/interest out of whats available;also, things do go round in circles anyway:

So i see there are signs of a little bit of activity on this thread, what the government would call green shoots. No signs of a glut of activity though yet, it appears giraffes is not a popular subject, i believe people are not such big animal lovers that we are lead to believe. What if we threw a few Elephants, Rhino's and Hippo's into the mix, would that make the thread more interesting and appealing. Did the elephant evolve from the now extinct Mammoth, and why was the Mammoth hairy and the Elephant dosen't have hair like the Mammoth. Mammoths have been found frozen in Siberia, so maybe that is the reason, Siberia, is cold where has Africa is hot, just a thought. Eggy, what is your opinion on the Mammoth, i see where there has been advertisment that have said, Mammoth Sale, and when you get there, there isn't a Mammoth in sight, often wondered if we could sue them for mis-advertising. Mind you, where would you keep a Mammoth if you bought one, they were not actually like a cat or dog, or a hamster, and you would need an hell of a big wheel for it to play in, or a kennel.

You had me going a bit there Eggy, for a moment i thought i was on Bebe's board, then realised my mistake. This thread is going the way of the Dodo, we must be a couple of old boring gits, can't blame it all on the giraffe though, we would have to have some neck to do that. Anyway, whats with all the dots, do you have a stutter, we had a vicar that stuttered once, nice old fellow, took him two hours to do a twenty minute's marriage ceremony. Off topic now, just shows you how easy it is to get distracted, i think the giraffe thing as gone as high as it can reach. Now if you want to start a topic about the evolution of Mammoths, well that might stir up a bit of interest. Mammoths evolved from some thing, but what, something that craweled out of the ocean i suppose, but how did that something get into the ocean in the first place.
Thinking about this can give you an almighty headache, so suggest we leave the Mammoth where it is, exstinct.

FREEDOM is the what it's all about my friend. You see as you and Jack blame God for bad things or a lack of presence(excpet for the whole islamification thing Jack!! ) You guys ignore that the biggest gift we have been given is our FREE WILL.. It's this FREE will that has been exploited over and over again throughout history. Reglion being one of the greatest.

Back to JC, WHY has the Church lasted. 1) Because it's obviously MEANT to, and 2) because of LOVE. It's not GOD that does bad, it's BAD humans that can't control themselves using their FREE will. Humans were meant to be free and love each other, per JC. The guy who has transcended time and space..

And even though the CHURCH has had to bend their was because of evolution, the WORD has stayed the same.. FREEDOM!!!

It's not about fearing Christ Eggy, it's about LOVING him and accepting that what he did was facilitation freedom for all the little people. It's just one of those TIME things. This is why our Jewish friends don't think he was the messiah, because it didn't happen when he was here.(Messianic age)

Now IF you really want to know why I know all this for a FACT. Then read the HISTORY I have provided earlier in this thread and all the new info on the God blessed America? thread. Once you do that..
