ran 25:47 this weekend....had i NOT had to get around 500+ kids and other people I might have knocked another 10 seconds off it, but i swear at the end i had nothing left to give...next race is Memorial Day, then 2 in June, only 1 planned for July (4 miler). I'm looking for 15K's to do to get my distance up in order to help with my 5K times. I think I might have myself convinced to do the full South Mountain 10 Miler, even if it means i have to walk up part of the mountain. It's thankfully in late fall so nice and cool....
it's finally warming up enough that i'm ready to start running in shorts now.
need to not slack this week and get some running in, last week I only got out once.

I would hurt myself if I ran at 515am! And great pace MM! I ran MWF last week and again today. I'm headed to Knoxville Thursday and that will derail my streak. I think there is a location of my gym there but I don't see this side of the family much so I'll skip it. They have 3 dogs and massive hills in their development, I'll volunteer to walk them.

We started running at 6 AM now, it's about the best time for us to run. granted the past few days the rain has NOT been helpful
so here is my quandry....I have the runners world 10K on saturday OCT 20th...I got invited to try out for a slot on the Picatinny Army 10 Miler team, which is OCT 21st. There are 3 teams, 2 of which I could make, 1 being non-military/open 8 fastest runners and then the other is based on attendance at the practice runs....so i'm pretty positive I can make the team...but do I want to do a 10k and then a 10 miler the same weekend...I have done back to back 5K's, i can run every day of the week...but....this is where it gets tricky, my ego says do it, my brain says, bad idea.

The scale says 20 pounds are gone! Woo hoo! I actually bought skinny jeans from h&m this weekend!
I'm still really trying to run, but it appears Im a power walker. I get side stitches almost right away when i jog. Im not going to fast, i dont eat before i go out, but there they are. But, I've been keeping a good, brisk pace with my walks and i do 3-4 miles when i go out. Luckily, it's hilly here so Im getting nice and sweat. So long as Im burning calories!

Yay for skinny jeans!
I want to fit back into some stuff in my closet.
I'd probably be dumb enough to attempt the 10k and 10 mile back to back. I definitely agree it isn't the smartest thing but I don't always do smart. I tend to push and see exactly where that line is.
I'm going to do Pilates and check out the biggest loser challenge game I got for $10 for the Wii tonight.

I need to get back to doing pilates regularly. I haven't done it in three weeks and my flexibility is shot! It really did make quite the added difference in how i looked at felt when i had it in my routine. Since it's rainy I'll do it tonight!

I used to do Pilates to help with back issues, need to get back into it. I found another workout I wanted to do on non run days. I've done pretty well most of the time sticking to my run routine so I need to make a non run routine. I have all kinds of options I just need to do it!
There was a girl at the gym yesterday who did 5 miles in 57 mins and I was sooo jealous. I know I'm doing good for me and sticking with it which is another big thing for me but I want to be her!

Alicia - I definitely think you can do the 10k and the 10-miler back to back. My recommendation is to look for training plans to do long runs on consecutive days. My goal is to run the Disney marathon in January - anyways, they have a "Goofy Challenge" which is where people do the half marathon on Saturday and then the full marathon on Sunday! If they can do that, you can definitely do 6.1 one day and then 10 the next. I am doing a Hal Higdon 15k plan right now until July and then starting the marathon training, and I have really liked his plans so far. He recommends his Marathon Intermediate 2 plan for Goofy Challenge runners - www.halhigdon.com/training/51140/Marathon-Intermediate-2-Training-Program. Perhaps if you do that but cut the mileage down so it fits the 6 mile/10 mile back-to-back? That is 5 months away so I definitely think you can do it.

Got in a good run tonight. I will see what the first one back next week feels like. If I weren't leaving on vacation, I'd probably bump up my speed and move onto the next week of the program. I've been taking it slow and waiting till I feel I've mastered on set to move on.

The couch to 5k one. I just checked out the next week and I will do that next Monday. I'm much better but all the pain's not gone so I wait till I'm definitely ready to move on. Going slow but I don't want anymore weeks of cussing as I walk down stairs and not being able to run at all.

Wow steph.. a half and then a full back to back?? That's crazy talk! Good luck on your training... keep us posted on how you're doing! Oh I am definitely not doing the half and full back-to-back this year, maybe sometime in the future! I would really like to do the marathon this year at Disney though, I love Disney and the course looks like so much fun (characters along the way you can take pictures with, running through Cinderella's Castle, all 4 parks, etc.). Yes, I am a nerd!

Ok I know I'm WAAAAYYY late, but I'd like to join in this conversation ;D I've posted in this area a few times but not for a long time. Love the motivation of hearing what everyone else is doing.
Some of my friends started a facebook group for fitness and we track what we are doing, goals and do 6 week challenges focusing on both fitness and lifestyle. Right now I'm working out 5 days a week and I vary on what I do. Zumba, bodypump, Jillian Michales, P90x, Rollerblading - I just mix it up. I hate running. Really hate it. I'm terrible at it. Did a 5k one year and never again. I'm slightly envious of those who can run those long distances you describe but it's just not for me.
On eating - right now I'm doing a Paleo style diet recommended by my chiropractor to try to help chronic inflammation I have. It's very tough - no dairy and no grains. blah.
oh and I wanted to add - my new favorite love - blogilates.com She has tons of pilates videos for all different muscle groups ranging from 5-25 min. each. I do them back to back for a great workout

Hoping to get in some good walking today. I was fine walking around yesterday. Then I spent a good twelve hours in the car. My knee was very unimpressed. I was glad to finally get here and be able to move around.

A foot injury has sidelined my running and I am not impressed. I am going to rest it for about a week and get back to it on Wednesday or Thursday. This happened to me last month too, but that was probably running a 10k after I hadn't ran in three weeks due to vacation! Not sure why it happened yesterday. The only thing different was that I actually had to walk a bit in my heels instead of sitting at my desk all day. I might have to switch to flats. Gasp, I might like running better than my super adorable shoes!
This Saturday's long run was supposed to be miles and I am so mad that I am going to miss it! But next week was a light training week anyway so I will just switch them around.

Today I start my 8-week Wedding workout. I have a grandson getting married in July and I want to look great even though I won't be a star. With playing golf so much, this will be a challenge to keep at it.
I have foot problems and lower leg problems, too. It's golf and walking those hills. I need to sort this out. I am thinking it could be socks that allow a slight slip in the shoe. Then heavier socks will heat up my entire body. I am leaning toward Addidas support socks about ankle high.
The sock issue caused problems with my tennis playing. When I solved that, it solved some knee problems.

Well, last 5K for the season was this morning. I'll still be running, but no more racing until October or so, when the weather cools off a bit. A little slower than my PR of a month ago, but this one had more hills (OK, hills for Florida, not hills for the rest of you!) and it was a few degrees warmer and more humid than a month ago. My foot and hand are looking a lot better. I had an advanced case of athlete's foot that had spread to my hand as well. I had no idea this thing could get that bad. It actually started months ago, when my mother was very sick. Of course, there was no way I could pay attention to it back then. Nothing OTC helped end the problem. I am on two prescriptions, one oral and one topical, for at least a month. Who knew a fungus could be so invasive? Anyway, no pain and itching at this point, though there will be some cosmetic damage when all is said and done.

Nancy: sorry to hear about the severe case of althlete's foot, glad you are doing better though
had our last 5K of the month yesterday. It was hot and hilly, probably get the 2nd best shirt of the season so far, a nice white technical T, but the size small was like a medium, so it went to B. had no intention of running hard since it was going to be hot and relatively humid (why couldn't the race start at 730 instead of 9???) but ended up knocking another 20+ seconds off my time, so I'm down to around 25:24. it was a pretty hilly course and I'd gotten myself pretty deyhdrated on Saturday and still have the headache no matter how much water I drink.
now that i keep dropping time, i keep putting pressure on myself to get under 25 before the fall, so that maybe by the fall I'll be at 24....total double edged sword because i know if i do worse one race, i'm going to be all bummed and disappointed with myself.
Have another 5K this saturday, one on the 16th, just registered for the 4th of July 4 miler...need a few more for the summer...found one that is the day before my birthday, I might sign up for that one. our longer runs are going to be in the fall.

Had nothing for yesterday's run. I quit after I got through what would have been the run time. My pace was still good though. I'm going to move on to a new week of training Wednesday.
That sucks about the athlete's foot Nancy. I hope it goes away soon.

The foot is looking better, but now it's dry. Not sure if that is the medication doing that, or something else. I'm just happy it does not itch all the time.

I made it to the official 20-lb lost mark before we went on vacation and I did not gain back a damn thing! I am so glad DF proposed after I lost all this weight so I don't have to go through the whole wedding diet. Woo hoo!
rlj, thanks for that web site! I was getting bored with the same netflix pilates dvds I've been streaming!
I haven't worked out in a week (unless you count walking all over the place during our trip), but it's too hot today, so tomorrow I am back on the horse with my Wednesday yoga class!

You know, those of us that are close (the PA, Bmore area) should pick a race and do a race get together sometime

Good thing I moved on in my training. I pushed the last 2 minutes hard. My lungs were unimpressed later but the drugs shut them up.
What can I say I'm stubborn, I didn't have the distance I wanted so I increased the speed and added another minute. I happened to glance down last night at 2 mile mark and I was at 25 minutes. Not great but better than what I started with in March.

You know, those of us that are close (the PA, Bmore area) should pick a race and do a race get together sometime I'm in PA but on the other side of the state! Bah! I was thinking about the Hershey half marathon in October though! I am still not running due to the foot. I think it is plantar fasciitis based on the reputable Dr. Google. I need to buy a new pair of running shoes because I think mine are worn down and that is part of the problem. I also think running outside on pavement might be part of the problem. I might have to go back to the treadmill (now that all my tv shows are over and I have nothing to distract me from watching the seconds tick by slowly!). But I am trying to rest until the pain is gone, but I just want to run. I haven't run in a week and I am dying over here. I would have hit my longest distance this Saturday (9 miles) and was so excited!

It does suck not being able to run especially if you were that far along. I hope I can run tomorrow. My breathings messed up from allergy shots tonight.

I'm getting there. Alicia found a zombie 5k that looked awesome but the entry fee was like $75 and it was filling up pretty quickly.

It definitely sucks when it is something out of your control that stops you from running. If I want to skip a run and be lazy on my couch, that is my decision! But if I can't run because of an injury, it just sucks because it is out of my control.
