A week and a day to go before the twn-mile race. I have a run planned for tomorrow and Monday six miles tomorrow and three Monday), short bike session Sunday and swimming the rest of next week, with things tapering down as the week goes on. I'm still tinkering with the food plans. The night before the race will have lean protein, a plain salad and a small amount of carbs. I don't believe in carbo-loading for myself, since race-morning nerves mean having to get rid of most of it anyway. I do have some of those energy gels to try out; I may take one or two with me on the race course. make sure to try the energy gels BEFORE the actual race.....if you never tried it before it MAY mess with your system, so you should test it our prior so you know how your system reacts....maybe that was already your plan, but just wanted to make sure....good luck!

My race is Sunday.. we will do pasta for dinner on Saturday, but I've done a couple of longer runs without worrying about what I eat the night before and usually have coffee, a banana and a little bit of water before I head out.... I just want to have an excuse to eat pasta because I love it so! I'll be getting in a run tonight after work... probably 4 1/2-5 miles, I do some light cardio and lifting tomorrow and I then my 10K on Sunday. best of luck!

my event went well...except my pace was 7 min 10 sec mile....I chalk it up to the course--no one knew before hand there would be a LOT of loose gravel on it....everyone was complaining, at least it seemed to equally affect most of the runners...

I didn't have time to read through yesterday so... good job Meghan, Jenny, Nancy and everyone else. Rob, you're getting some karma for running on loose gravel.

Let us know how the drink and run at the same time works out. I can't walk and drink at the same time.

My race went really well... My goal was to finish between 55-57 minutes.. I came in at 54:17, my pace was 8:45 minute mile. Congratulations Miss Margarita! That is an excellent time for your first 10K. It's 25 seconds better than my PB. Sounds like I need to get back in training.

OK, folks...ten-mile race done. Not a time to brag about; I was over two hours. But better than the over three hours it took me to do the same race five years ago. I still hurt today, but not as much as I thought.
I went through three quarts of fluid after the race yesterday, and it really was not that hot out...the day's high was only eighty degrees. And I had water with me the entire event. I felt no cramps until the tenth and final mile, so it was bearable.
Next up: a 10K in early April. This one has an elevation change (woo-hoo) with an out-and-back run over one of the drawbridges. I do hill work when I run, but not like most of you; Florida really does not have hills in the same sense.

Not having hills really sucks. And, real ground is a must. I climbed 19 floors of stairs to check my endurance on year.
Last year I saw a trail by the river that had a lot of elevation changes. I would not go there alone, though. I'm sure the mountain bikers and runners love it.

Glad it's over. Stuff still hurts some today, but not that bad. I signed up for a 10K next month. I hope to feel pain-fee by the weekend, and get some elevation work in, using what we have here (drawbridges).

I'd love to get it done in 60-65 minutes, but with the elevation change, that may not be doable. I will practice it this weekend and next, and see how I do.
The good news is that this race starts early: 7 a.m. So at least it will still be cool-ish. We will be running eastbound for only a small portion of the race, so at least the majority of the race will not be spent facing the direct sunlight.

I did Pilates and went for a 4.2 mile run this morning before church...then a 10 mile bike ride after church. The weather was so nice today. Mid 70s with a nice breeze and the pollen count was down for a change.

I've totally let myself go. I decided to paint the interior of my house this winter and gave up two things in order to have extra time. One of those was exercising (the other was my regular platelets donation). Anyway, now I'm flabby and while I've only gained 2-3 pounds I'm almost a size larger since my muscles dissolved into fat. I can barely fit into my jeans. I'm slowly starting back up, but of course life is getting in the way. My DD is home sick so I haven't been able to go to the gym in two days. I'll try Wed/Fri this week. I know this time will pass, but it is so freakin difficult to get started back in a routine! Plus I'm hungry all the time because I've been doing cardio in a desperate attempt to burn some fat faster. Cardio always makes me hungry (vs lifting which never seems to do that ). Anyway, I haven't been on this board in awhile and figured I'd check in and get inspired. Good job everyone!!!

Sk- 2-3 lbs isn't that bad, and everyone needs a break now and then, just consider that your break and start back on the horse.....you can do it

Way to go MM! That is really great. I hope you rewarded yourself with a nice glass of wine. Don't beat yourself up skinnykids. Just get started again and it will give you some momentum. Nobody is perfect...not even Rob Base.

I have been half dreading starting golf. I get overheated too easily and my hands swell up. I just read an article about cooling the hands to aid exercise output. The Yahoo article had a fancy pair of gloves that the temp coud be set on. I'll just use a bottle of ice water.

I backslid over the winter as well. I stopped working out during my vacation, then went to visit family for the holidays and did some travel for work (of course I was eating like crazy the whole time). Then I decided to rest and recoup from the travel and never seemed to get started again.
I have been back working out for three weeks now on Tues, Thurs and Sat. I do a half hour strength training and a half hour of cardio. My heart just isn't in it though and I have had to ask my husband to nag at me until I go. I am hoping it will become a habit again so I don't need the nagging.

Hey Fam... I rewarded myself with a couple of glasses of wine.. and a pedicure! Which is my new tradition now... after every race I'm treating myself to the deluxe pedicure with additional foot massage.. That is a great idea...and well deserved! Wait, this doesn't mean I have to run first before getting a pedicure, does it?

I bet 2.32 miles at gym doesn't count I need to find a new place anyone. The one near my house isn't so good. The lady cut my toenails way too short the only time I was there.
