mmmok, Angel. But the brownies? I thought you killed them trying to squish the nuts?
About the twitching eye...caffeine and mothers can produce the same symptoms.
West...no sNOw out there? How strange. La Nina is so fickle; at least with El Nino, the weather is predictable.

The brownies are ok even though I broke the nuts to bits. They still taste good!
My mother makes me twitch. I have been dealing with her guilt trips for going on 2 weeks. Why don't I ever come visit her...why can't I come stay for Christmas, you never call....the list goes on and on. Well...I don't come visit because she makes me twitch. I have to hear about all the drama that they bring into their lives. My drug addicted brother is usually there and I don't like him around my kids. I won't EVER stay the night there because the house is filthy. Why can't THEY come visit me? She goes and visits my aunt and uncle that live 20 minutes from me but doesn't come see me! I don't call because I seriously can just put her on speaker phone and say uh huh every few minutes and she doesn't even know the difference.
So yeah...I am twitching today. I finally gave in and will visit her tomorrow. Thank goodness DSD can drive because I think I will have to hide a flask in my purse to get through it.

I understand, Angel. I had a mother, too, and she made me twitch (and worse). I am a mother, and I make an effort to not ever lay guilt trips on my kids nor to insert myself into their business.
And my house is clean!

Oh Dear Sweet Baby Jesus...I am about to hit the road to my mother's house. I need a few flasks to get me through this.
Good morning to all and hope you have a great day!

virtual hugs, Angel. I'll be spending the day with my mom too. THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS...and feel free to use my mantra: You can't pick your relatives. You can't pick your relatives. You can't pick your relatives

I flat out asked my mom yesterday if I was adopted. She was going on and on about my brothers and I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't think she liked me saying my brothers were dumber than a box of rocks.

the first time my dad EVER told me he was proud of me was last year at Christmas. It was the greatest gift anybody ever gave me. that's not the issue with mom. She's just one of those people who will NOT change her mind...even when she knows she's wrong. Mom also holds a grudge forever. She no longer speaks to her sis or brother. Sometimes I wonder how long it'll be before she cuts me out of her life too. mom still refuses to call me by my dad's last name (I didn't change it when I got married) because she's still bitter about their divorce ( over 40 freakin' years ago)

Gracious good morning, boys and girls. OMG! I can't believe how much better I feel this morning...almost normal, whatever that is I don't know what to tell you, Angel and Peach. Mothers can be very strange people. When I start to feel martyred or when I need a time out to wallow in self pity, I do my best to bite my tongue and/or isolate myself so that I don't become my mother. You can do this! It's only a few hours out of one day. Smile, nod and appear to agree a lot, and don't let your mothers push your buttons. Happy day-after-Christmas! ETA: Peach, thanx for the swell breakfast.

Hi, Cheesy. It wasn't exactly stressless, but Tucker and I survived, and we both feel immeasurably better this morning. Did Santa bring you all or most of what was on your list? I got everything I asked for and some things I never even dreamed of. Don't think I'll be out shopping today. I'll leave it to everybody else to continue the madness

I never ask for nor do I expect anything for Christmas. Ours was very low key giftwise, and just enjoying time with family is all I want. DD1 flew in from Boston on Tues, and will be here until tomorrow. I am taking tomorrow off and we are going to head to some art museums in Tampa and St. Pete, and then I am dropping her off and a friend's house, and we will see her again next weekend. She flies back out on Wed morning (Jan 5)
One of DH's sisters always sends the most hideously smelling "perfume" which currently resides in the trash. She also sent a hideously smelling candle, which also resides in the trash. I do not think she has a sense of smell at all.
I am headed to Penny's with the girls this afternoon for our 5 year portraits.

So looking forward to a peace-and-quiet day. No cooking, no baking, no cleaning up, no frenzy. Leftovers for whatever thrown-together meals we have today, Christmas cookies and candy for desserts. Chips and dips for munching in between the aforementioned thrown-together meals.
And it looks like the snow has stopped, no rain expected, roads look to be okay so better in the morning, and I can get out to go to work. Yay.
Some time during the week, I'll pack up the Christmas stuff and put it away in hopes that next year will be easier. Is the Easter stuff out in the stores yet?

Today is recovery day. The house is almost totally put back together. I still need to put the dessert plates away and the 4 chairs that go with the card table. DD slept until almost 11 today but seems to be feeling better. I haven't heard her cough this morning and she isn't running a fever today.
I would be perfectly content if I never left the house today.

Good morning, kids. I'm off to work after I let the car warm up. It's only 20 here. Brr.
It's a two-job day so I won't be home until around 4. Y'all behave while I'm gone, k?

today's quote is from Dan Salomon: Sometimes it pays to stay in bed in Monday, rather than spending the rest of the week debugging Monday's codefor those of us who don't have that option, it's OFF TO WORK best to look on the bright side, I guess... I do have a job

Good morning ladies. I am finally out of the fetal position and ready to face the day.
I will be making our Christmas dinner today. I was waiting for my stepdaughter to do it. I got back with her last night and so today we will feast.

Post of the Morning, at least. Morning, all. Really cold here. A good weekend, though. Lots of time with friends. No family stress (that comes next month). Everyone loved the desserts at the Christmas party, and while I did not get a ton of rest, I did get some. Not planning much for New Year's, which is actually a relief. But the best present so far....the office hag is out today, totally unexpected!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy your hag free day. I have accomplished one of my goals for this week. I finally picked an avatar and got it attached to my name.

I have not found a replacement avatar yet...I should find a food-related one, I guess.
Hag-free day....I love it! And I am enjoying it. Hope she is out all week.

Well, Empire....that's why I brought it over on my avatar. I made truffles over the weekend, which is why I chose it.

Hi, kids. I'm home. What? No snacks? Old people get hungry Not a bad day but not good, either. Working for those two is, well, er, not great. I look forward to the day when I can fire them both.
