I'm so sorry, Nancy. That sounds like an ordeal.

I'm so sorry, Nancy. That sounds like an ordeal. DH suggested that the reason she was that far from home at the time of death may be due to assignment to a Medicare/Medicaid only nursing home. It does sound logical, as she had pretty much no estate to speak of. If Medicare was all she had (and she did work for many years for the VA) then that may have been the closest location for her.

Sad for your DH Nancy I felt the loss of my sister more than my parents and was very lonely after she passed. DS and I were close, she was disabled from birth and after our parents passed we were together for 12 years.

That is so sad, NancysSummerSip . My Dad outlived all of his siblings, and he told me when his last sister died that he sort of felt like an orphan, so I imagine your DH is hurting. Hugs to all of you. My Grandpa was the last one of the siblings to pass away. I did hear him say once I wonder why I was the last one to go, you could tell he was sad. Since he lived to be 101 he really was the last of his friends group also.

Today I got the majority of the Thanksgiving grocery shopping done. There will just be a few last minute things to pick up next week. It wasn't an easy process. I drove about 20 miles to the next town because I wanted a certain brand of turkey that there website said they carried. The man said nope, they didn't have any turkeys. It is a restaurant supply store where the general public is also allowed to shop. He said they were told they could only sell turkeys by the case this year and he knew that wouldn't ever fly in this area so they didn't order any. I see a display of the franz stuffing but it was all the crouton style and not the seasoned stuffing, strike two. I then went looking for the large can of planters mixed nuts that I use throughout the holidays for making chex mix, nope out of that also, strike three. I left empty handed drove home and went to Safeway.

Good Morning Kids! (Sorta) Woke up to ice on the driveway, sidewalk & street, so DH scattered salt on the driveway so DS wouldn't hurt himself when catching his ride to work today. Crazy number of accidents overnight, so I'm questioning if the salt trucks have even been out (we didn't hear any). Welcome to Winter!

On my street, snow did not stick to the road. There is some on roofs and on grass. It's cold and windy.
My grandpa lived to be 87. He was the youngest of his family, so his siblings did all die before him. He was worried about having no friends to come to his funeral.
He need not have worried. Between family and the children of his friends, there had to be a speaker set up outside the church on a cold, windy November day.

We got the last of our Thanksgiving grocery shopping done also. When we got home, DH turned on the news. Two sheriff's office deputies died this morning in a horrific traffic accident and one is in grave condition.
They say deaths come in threes. I have no idea who the officers are yet. I am trying to find out and as bad as this news is for my former department, I am wondering if I know any of these guys.

My MIL believes that deaths & bad things come in threes also. I'm afraid #3 might have happened up here, as a baby was killed in a crash on an icy road.

Yes, death does apparently come in threes. One of the two deputies who passed is someone I worked with. He was almost to retirement.

Happy Friday Muffins!!!
Our forecast seems to change from day to day. The sNOw we were suppose to get this week never came and the sNOw we were going to get at the beginning of next week has moved to possible rain/snow mix on Weds. Mostly 50s and 60s until then.
Really looking forward to the long holiday weekend next week.
Have a Fabulous Weekend!!!

Peeps, it's a tad chilly out there. Should be in the low 50s by morning. Pool will be open. I trimmed the hedge outside the door we use as a Christmas tree and will decorate tomorrow. I think I need it after this week.

Yesterday te sNOw was mostly lake effect so the plows were not out. The ride home was treacherous to say the least. Today it is raining and windy.

It is Saturday, peeps, and I am glad to have projects. I washed and vacuumed the floors, emptied the dishwasher and arranged the food I need for next week. I will decorate outside later, when it gets warmer. It was 48 degrees at the pool this morning and yes, I had the car heat on to and from the pool. I am such a wimp. I have a big thermal mug of hot green tea here.

I guess I'm having some of the grandkids for the day, probably the younger two but not sure until they show up. I was asleep when DD texted me so now trying to wake up and scarf in some breakfast before I arrive. There is no rules that Grandmom must be dressed when babysitting so bathrobe it is.

Good Afternoon Kids! I'm working on cards once again, and also made a quick run to Target. I didn't read their weekly ad closely enough, as they've got a deal going where if you purchase 2 games (like board games), you get one free. So, I bought 3 games to donate to our local toy drive.

I ended up with the two youngest as expected. This morning we watched multiple Charlie Brown DVD's, and Frosty the Snowman. Then everyone had lunch and they are now down for afternoon naps. I whipped up a box of brownie mix for afternoon snack. They smell good I may need to do a taste test ahead of time. I need to be getting ready for Mom to arrive Tuesday evening, oh well.

Peeps, I got most of the decorating done. The outdoor tree looks wonderful. We found one of those indoor/outdoor lighted collapsible trees under the bed, hiding with the big evil dust bunnies. We had not pulled it out in years. DH is working on it putting it together slowly. I also made a batch of cookie dough from a recipe in the newspaper. I split the batch and put butterscotch chips in for DH and chocolate chips in mine. Dough needs 24 hours in the fridge before baking.
Chicken breasts are coated and seasoned for chicken Parmigiana. I will have mine as a sandwich; DH will have a side of ravioli.
Tomorrow is a long run and laundry.

Good Morning Kids! It is COLD here this morning, in the mid-30's. The only thing making me feel better is knowing that in my former FL neighborhood, they were forecast to get frost overnight. So, living down South isn't everything dreams are made of, or at least not what everyone expects.

Good (late) Evening Kids! Another full day here, so I'm just checking in before heading off to bed. There is not much here for the guys to snack on, so I made a vanilla cake (what's with the vanilla cake mixes at the store now, instead of white cake) with chocolate frosting. That'll hold them until Thanksgiving Day, I hope. We've got nasty weather heading our way, so we'll have to see if we've got ice to deal with tomorrow morning in time for rush hour. Yup, it'll be a Monday.

Happy and crazy Monday for all you last minute shopping peeps! Got my kickboxing in and then hit the bank and the fish store. DH has not had a crab cake in awhile, so I got some jumbo lump at almost $60 per pound. Dang crabs must fly here first class. It's all for him, though. I have leftover chicken Parmigiana.
