Good Evening Kids! DH & I are talking about getting a new freezer for the basement. I think we're actually going to do it this year, even though we haven't finished the basement yet. Priorities. Oooooohhhhh...can it be an frEEzer if we need it? The holidays are coming and a few of us may need space for relatives we need to see less of. I didn't even think about that, but it IS nice to have options.

Good Afternoon Kids! I stopped at my favorite Scandinavian bakery this morning, and I plan to do some baking today. It sounds like some folks in my extended family are going to need some comfort food this weekend.

I had never had an experience with a tankless hot water heater until I moved to this house. They are wonderful except I take way too long showers now. I've always preferred a bath to a shower for getting good and warm and relaxing, now I just take incredibly long showers. I'm getting ready to head to bed and I don't care if it only 7pm. It's been a long week, I'm tired, so I'm going to bed.

Good Afternoon Kids! I slept in this morning too. Even 9 hours of sleep felt really good. I have no energy today, and it's gloomy outside too, but I'll try & work on some projects inside the house.

It's been a long day on my feet, but I do need to put 10 hours in on the new orthotics, so I certainly am doing that! Went to our little local green market, Costco and then came home. Almost $500 spent at Costco!!!!! A lot of restocked food, but also a new set of fry pans (the tri-ply Cuisinart set), a new water kettle (my metal one is flaking and the new one is glass), some health and beauty stuff, and a set of dual walled thermal mugs. Some fun stuff for us, but we don't buy holiday gifts for anyone or each other anymore. So this was our splurge shopping spree. After lunch, went to Walmart for pet food and some other things, including bok choy for soup tomorrow.

I got the front yard mowed this afternoon. My riding mower has a flat tire so I used the walk behind mower, it took me 3 hours. The fresh air did feel good A long time friend from where I used to work called me totally out of the blue this morning. I hadn't talked with her in a couple of years. I was always the one who had to initiate the calls, then she would be fussing at the dog, talking with dog, plus she has more drama in her family than anyone I know. We always have enjoyed talking sewing and other things like that. It was nice to talk with her even if the drama still exists within her family.

Got a trail run in to practice for next week's trail race - brunch will be following with friends!!! I made breakfast, and now laundry is running. I also worked in the garden. I will make my meatball bok choy noodle soup soon, so it cools down in time to put in jars for the week's lunches.

Thanks for brunch, Nancy.
It was pouring just as I got on the highway to get my chai. About a mile out of town, the eyesight in my car was covered by rain so I had to control the speed myself. I am so spoiled.

Soup is done and cooling before I can put it away. It smells very chicken-y in the house.

We're playing clean out the freezer for dinner tonight. The freezer we're considering buying would probably not be delivered until after Thanksgiving, so either we need to eat through the freezer, or borrow some space from DD.

This afternoon I defrosted my freezer and got it organized. It will be nice to know what I have and how much of it is out there. I did get a magnetic white board that came with magnetic dry markers and a magnetic eraser. I need to inventory everything and get it on my whiteboard. I've never done that type of inventory before but hopefully it will help me keep track of stuff.

Tonight took a very unexpected and scary turn. DD called and said that something scary had happened with DGD2 and they were on the way to the emergency room and would I go over to their house and turn off the oven. I offered to take the older kids, she agreed.
I got the oven turned off and then picked up all the kids jammies and their favorite stuffed toys, at this point I still had no idea what had happened or why they headed to ER. While I was getting things loaded up DD did text and let me know they thought she had a febrile seizure. DSIL met me at my house with the kids and I got them dinner and into jammies and answered a ton of questions. The older kids were afraid that she had died. When they picked the kids up DD let me know that she was unconscious for a couple of minutes. She was diagnosed with strep throat which was causing the fever. No blankets until the fever breaks. DD knew she wasn't feeling good so she had picked her up, wrapped her in a blanket and was sitting and rocking her when it happened.
They had called 911 and then met the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The EMT's checked her out along side the road and said she was stable and then just followed them to the hospital so there was no charge.

I'm so sorry to hear about DGD2's possible seizure, Sharon. Tell your daughter NOT to panic. Just because a child has a seizure once, due to a high fever, doesn't mean they'll have another one. Back when I was a teen I babysat for a family whose youngest child had a seizure as a baby when it got very sick. It was only a one-time occurrence. Hopefully the doctor in the ER was very reassuring.

And it's Monday, peeps! What else can you say? I am waiting for my phone to update all the apps, then I am calling a contact given to me by someone who worked with me for the election. This contact hires for our local fairgrounds - it sounds good to me. Part time and a lot of walking around. All kinds of events are available as are all kinds of hours.

Speaking of scary events...
Very early Sunday morning I was woken up by a police siren that seemed very close. I got up and looked out all the windows but couldn't see any flashing lights. A number of other sirens followed. I finally went back to sleep.
Turns out at a house about 1/4 mile away, there was a home invasion by an unknown person. The resident and the intruder got into a scuffle. The resident managed to shoot and kill the intruder but not without getting shot in his arm.
This is a very quiet and safe area of town. Although this town has its problems (and what town doesn't, these days?), this is shocking.

Sorry Serious, that sounds awful.
I started my laundry, and they replaced the outside door which seems just a little too small. We have a lock pad with a door handle and the door handle just fell off in my hand when I left. Not sure what's wrong there but left the door ajar to be safe. My knee really hurts, but I might be lugging my wet laundry to another laundry room as someone has a load in ahead of me and only one of the two dryers is available. I hope the maintenance guy who took off in the truck is coming back versus being done for the day.
I slipped the door handle back over its cylinder, but it is way too loose. Maybe its missing a part?

Turns out the closest other laundry room is closed so I lugged my wet clothes back and now to wait for their dryer to finish. My knee was really bad yesterday but now I wish I had powered through somehow. ETA - Even though I returned before the dryer was supposed to be done, almost an hour, someone beat me too it. So just got my laundry in the dryer almost two hours later.

I'm a city girl, so I've always locked my doors, even living outside the city, but home invasions are the reason I don't answer the door after dark. The scariest thing that has happened here recently is a local gas station was the victim of an armed robbery. That sort of thing just doesn't happen here. It's a different world.

I don't remember much about living in the town where I was born.
From the time we moved to Des Moines, the doors were always locked. Dad made a big deal out of it and did so for the rest of his life.
My home was burglarized in Boulder. Someone tried to get in here. Thus the alarm system.
I hope nothing like that happens to me.

The Boulder burglary was extremely scary. The guy was good. When I got home, things just didn't feel right but I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. Benjamin, my mouthy cat, was closed in the bathroom. I never closed him in the bathroom. So I start looking around. I see a thumb print on my living room window. So I call the police.
They call and come very quickly. I am told that there had been a series of break ins similar to mine followed by rapes the same night in my neighborhood. Talk about freaked out! They assured me he would not come back because he had my place staked out and knew the police had been there. They checked the front door, which I never used. I came in through the garage. It was set so he could just walk in. Police said he usually takes dirty underwear. Go look where I keep my dirty laundry. Sure enough there is some missing.
My next door neighbor was a friend and he came over while the police were there. It was summer. No a/c so he said he would hear me if I was screaming. I did not sleep that night. I was too afraid.
The police said they knew who it was and were going to catch him soon enough. About 10 days later, I was called and told he had been arrested.
I did not know he had stolen blank checks until my bank statement came. The bank reimbursed those.
I got a security system and lived there another 7 years.

My ex-BIL was a sketchy sort. He spent time in juvenile detention. He said if people break into your house they usually know if you are home or not. If they break in knowing you are home, they are probably carrying a gun. He said that many years ago. Nowadays with the rates of mental illness, drug addiction, and homeowners who keep guns for protection, maybe this has changed. I'm very good about keeping doors locked. But occasionally I forget and find in the morning my door was unlocked all night long. TheOtherMe, I have a friend who lived off of 9th St. in Boulder in the 1980s. Her house was broken into too, and she said the same thing, she knew something was off. Then she found some of her jewelry was missing. That sixth sense is a strange thing.
