Star has grown into a beautiful 14.5 pound doggy. She is spoiled and loved. She's mischievious, a favorite at the doggy park. Her favorite game is to steal the bathmat, only when someone is showering! Takes it all the way to the kitchen! 4 rooms away!

Good to "see" you again, roy!! I missed your previous post before about "Star". She sounds like a real sweetie - the "star" of the dog park

That she is Lassie! At first I didn't think I'd go for a little dog, honestly, but she has such a personality, and is truly a sweet dog She has a really great temperament and is all about love (and mischieveness)

Thanks Jake and SL. He's a good kid except when it comes to alcohol. But fortunately he's getting the help he needs. It's a double whammy when you add depression to it.

I'm so glad he's getting the help, Kimber. Dual diagnosed, and then the self medication is rough. The world out there is waiting for him. My life changed incredibly so. Bless you, and bless him

Some Wisdoms of the Years . September 18, 2011 at 6:31pm
Some wisdoms
1)No one can ruin your day without YOUR permission.
2)Most people will be about as happy, as they decide to be.
3)Others can stop you temporarily, but only you can do it permanently.
4)Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
5)Success stops when you do.
6)When your ship comes in.... make sure you are willing to unload it.
7)You will never "have it all together."
8)Life is a journey...not a destination. Enjoy the trip!
9)The biggest lie on the planet: "When I get what I want I will be happy."
10)The best way to escape your problem is to solve it.
11)I've learned that ultimately , 'takers' lose and 'givers' win.
12)Life's precious moments don't have value, unless they are shared.
13)If you don't start, it's certain you won't arrive.
14)We often fear the thing we want the most.
15)Everyone hears what you say. Friends listen to what you have to say. Best friends listen to what you don't say!
16)Yesterday was the deadline for all complaints.
17)Look for opportunities. ..not guarantees.
18)Life is what's coming....not what was.
19)Success is getting up one more time.
20)Now is the most interesting time of all.
21)When things go wrong.....don' t go with them.
22)Sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side.
23)God can mend all broken hearts. You just have to give him all the pieces.
24)A person who asks a question might be a fool for five minutes, but a person who doesn't ask, is a fool forever...
25)A best friend is like a four leaf clover... hard to find, and lucky to have.
26)A friend is someone who reaches for your hand but touches your heart.
27)A coincidence is when God performs a miracle, and decides to remain anonymous.
28)I don't have to attend every argument I'm invited to.
29)Our eyes are placed in front because it is more important to look ahead than to look back.
30)Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace... and your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace.

Thanks Roy. I thought the first dui would have been enough but it wasn't. :-( he doesn't know if he's going to have a job or not after everything is settled but for now he is able to be on short term disability while he's going to treatment

The hardest thing for an addict is for us to get to a point where "the need" (to get sober) overcomes "the fear" of change. We humans get complacent and happy in our spot, even if its miserable. (think of all the people who stay in abusive relationships, or alcoholics/addicts who don't get sober. We fear change, so it becomes "ok" to stay in that spot, no matter how disfuntional it is. I know in my case when I came to the point when I was trying to get clean (but failing) it was pointed out and the question was asked "what are you afraid of?" (in getting sober) The answer I found was I was afraid of not being who I thought I was. Reality was as an addict I didn't know who I was yet. But I feared letting go of what I thought I knew. It can be hard! Good luck!

Ish, MarleyKeezy78. I don't know if any of the regulars on this thread are here. I'm here, if you just need to vent, hon. I haven't personally experienced these problems, though, except in a much-loved family member.

Thanks mmhmm I'm looking to make some changes in my life for my family and my health and thought this place would be a good start. Alcoholism runs deep in my family and I am finding that I drink way to much and it needs to stop before it becomes a major problem.

Oh, dear, hon. I'm really sorry to hear that. My daughter had this problem. She, like Roy Grip, has overcome it, so it's not an impossible task. Have you looked into AA? Might that be something that would help you?

Maybe, I would like to find something that is not so religious. I have been looking online and I did download a AA app for the ipad. It's a start. Every time I tell DH I am going to cut back it never happens and I really need to get some control. I'm happy to hear your daughter is doing well. Thank you for sharing that with me I think I may try to find a online support group and start this journey.

That sounds like a really good idea, hon! I'm pretty sure there are groups similar to AA but not based on religion. Some internet research will probably turn them up, and a good online support group will most likely know what and where they are. Some of the psychology boards are actually run/moderated by licensed professionals and many have areas for addiction. That's another source you might want to pursue. Good luck to you. I know you can do this!

MarleyKeezy78, try this link. The psychologist who runs it is Canadian (in Toronto, I think) and is a real good guy. Perhaps you can find some help and support there.
