Jake, the plan you and DW have devised sounds like a good one. It's obvious you've put a lot of time and love into it. Might I suggest you type it all up and each of you sign it. That way, you have something to turn back to if someone "forgets" any of the agreements made. We had to do this with our DD at one time. It worked pretty well. She's been sober for over ten years now. What you're doing isn't easy on anyone. It hurts to see someone you love suffering, and it's often hard to remember they're suffering due to their own choices, not yours. If DD doesn't learn to make better choices, the suffering will continue until her drinking takes her life. These are things she must come to understand. As our DD now says: "I spent half my life having what I thought was a "good time". I feel blessed it only took me ten years to overcome it."

Whitney Houston has been found dead at 48 years old. At 3:55pm PST in Los Angeles she was declared gone. Geez what a freaking waste. RIP Whitney

A voice like an angel, a train wreck in later life. Reports say she was smelling like alcohol doing cartwheels in the lobby earlier. Such a talent

Whitney's death is very sad. I haven't heard any details (and frankly, I'm okay with that) but I certainly hope she finds peace. Her poor daughter.... All is good with me lately. I seem to be over my cold and I'm headed back to work today. Lots to do to get back on track, but it isn't overwhelming. I'm also looking forward to this Friday's meeting. It's an anniversary party for the group and they have lots of good stuff planned! Yay for AA! Your right Daphne, I've worked in either TV or films for over 30 yrs. I've worked with or next most major stars. What is the overiding factor is that they are human just like us. They are mother's and father's and prone to good days and basd. The stress and readability of drugs is incredible. They become addicts just like us. The sad part is that being at the top of their particular food chain, no one says no to them. So like any good addict that has unlimited money, they self destruct. All the people that could and should try to stop them don't want their mealticket to stop paying. It unfolded with Michael Jackson and so many others. What a waste of wonderful talent! Hope your feeling better

Good morning Daphne, hello RG and the rest of the regulars. A warm welcome Suek1958. Sue, until you and your ex are on the same page for holding DS accountable, it is going to be a struggle. DW and I seem to have reached that point w/DSD. We had another family meeting, she is keeping her end of the bargain, has not pissed me off. She is looking into the National Guard, that in itself is a process, but she has been meeting or exceeding what is required so far. Hang in there, being a loving parent is not easy

Welcome Sue! I've been absent due to work. I concur with my breatheren. He must find his own way, make his own mistakes and learn from them. As much as we wish we could push our kids and walk ahead of them guiding them we can't. All we can do is nudge here and there and be there for them. Congrats Daphne Jake I'm so glad she's mov ing foward Sue keep us informed

Sue, a lot of parents of kids who have gone thru divorce carry guilt. Sure the ex probably thru guilt thinks he's doing the right thing by supporting/enabling him. It's not right but it takes care of his guilt.

HI Roy, thanks for your words and insights. You may be right about the guilt. But I must say, my ex is known as a 'care-taker'... for years he has gone out of his way to 'help' family and friends. Stuff I wouldn't have done, like lending large amounts of money, for example... so maybe it is just his nature. It still doesn't make it right, in this case. No it doesn't. I have a brother in law like that. He was blessed wth selling his compant for an obscene amount of money a few yrs back, now showers family with monetary gifts and loans, except in his case always with a price tag.

Hey all, when I have the time I would love to read EVERYTHING but right now I have a question. Is there any difference between AA and NA, aren't there also groups for children of alcoholics or something like that?

Naggie, as explained to me by DSD, who is active in the programs AA meetings are primarily about alcohol addiction and the old timers at meetings want it to be only that. NA meetings are about any substance that is mind altering, and alcohol is a drug. DSD prefers NA meetings because it tends to be a younger group who are dealing with multiple drug addictions and are more receptive to hearing how one drug led to another and then to another. Alnon? is for family members who are living with, dealing with a person suffering from addiction and the effects on the family hope this helps

Thanks for the info Jake. I hope your DSD is getting better. I will look for NA meetings then but again thanks for the info. Alnon, yeah that might be what it is called.

Hey Naggie, they have tten alanon meetings for codependent kids of alcoholics/addicts. As well as teen NA or AA meetings'
What Jake said about the difference, and to that I will add AA came first and is more oriented to alcohol addiction, NA covers addiction to substances including alcohol which NA considers a drug.
