"On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self- pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions we can employ our mental faculties with assurance, for after all God gave us brains to use. Our thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives." AA BB pg. 86

I get antsy after an hour in a vehicle . It's better if I'm by myself cuz then I can smoke. I can't smoke if DH is in the vehicle, so when we go on longer drives it can get a little nerve wracking.

I don't smoke. if I'm by myself, I have control over the temp and radio, and I can sing at the top of my lungs w/o pissing off my passenger.

Good morning all! It's Friday and that means my meeting tonight -- Yippee! I'm really starting to look forward to them. Daphne, what I've learned from the program, the meetin gs, my sponsor, sponoring others, the people I've met, is immensley helpful in my everyday life. The coping skills I've learned, problem solving techniques etc. Plus I've had more fun than I coukld imagine in recovery.

Saying Yes to Life My life is up to me. The way I live my life reflects who I am. My love of life and my recognition of the spiritual nature of living begin from a point within me. I am destined to find moral purpose and spiritual meaning in the life I have been given. My decision to live with faith in a higher reality and in my fellow being is an act of both moral courage and child-like innocence. Today I am not worrying about what life can give me, but of what I can give to life. If I am only here to take, I will create a unidirectional black hole within me. Give and take are what keep spirit in natural motion. I believe in life. Thinking in mythological terms helps to put you in accord with the inevitables of this vale of tears. You learn to recognize the positive values in what appear to be the negative moments and aspects of your life. The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure... the adventure of the hero - the adventure of being alive. Joseph Campbell

Morning Daphne and RG, DSD came by last night, she is moving into a new place and is going to work for the non-profit that runs the house. She gets free rent and a small salary for being the house manager. I told her I would go over today and help her with the heat,( she has no clue what kind) W/D hook up, etc.. Maybe the responsibility of running the day to day operation will do her some good,

Good morning Roy and Jake! Thanks for the uplifting words Roy. I am definitely finding that going to regular meetings is supremely beneficial to me (who'd of thunk it after all these years?? ) Good luck to your DSD Jake -- it sounds like she's headed in the right direction! One day at a time, right?! Hey Daphne, yep for to many years I tried doing it my way and failed, making me even more depressed. I learn a lot about everyday life skills from the program. Enjoy

A very dear old friend struggling for years with alcoholism and addiction, walked into the bathroom at the studio, wed. and hung himself to death. He leaves a wife, two kids 7 and 9, and a bunch of friends beside ourselves. This is the truth about addiction, Jails, Institutions and death. George buddy, you will truly be missed, your humor, your smile, your laughter, I will miss most R.I.P. George. May you find peace now.

Hello all, finally went to DSD's new place today. The kid is overwhelmed. They have oil heat and wanted to know what kind of people end their rental agreement and leave the oil tank empty for the next one. So we wrote down all the phone calls she has to make, oil, electrician, trash etc.. The LL is in CA, so she has to check the lease, etc.., she thought it was going to be easy to be the house manager. I helped her put some furniture together, located water shut offs, put in some additional smoke detectors and other odds and ends. She is in a nice residential neighborhood, only 2 miles from her Friday night AA meeting. It is only 20 minutes away, so I told her to call me if she gets in deep doo-doo

Funny Jake you say CA for the owner, there are so many sober living houses out here. Good deal, here they put three or four peeps per bedroom, charge them $500 a month each. Requirements are one house meeting a week, proof of employment, proof of outside AA/NA meets and house chores. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. It's a great "next step" for her.
