And you do realize there really isn't a such thing as Russian press? More like they are an extension of the Russian government... Fair point, but how should that factor in to evaluation of the white house actions ? Trump had his government photo dude and Russian dude had his govt photographer. I am not sure what "actions" you are referring too- is it the banning of US press?

The title on the OP seems fair.
One anonymous staffer bitching = Trump was surprised.
And the story comes from CNN which is known to be fair to Trump

So I read this story too www.yahoo.com/news/humiliated-mother-apos-forced-urinate-101343577.htmlMaybe it's the skeptic in me. The chick says she has to go pee a lot due to medical issues. From my reading the plane was in landing mode so no leaving ur seat. She insisted on having to go potty. So stewardesses "made" her pee in cup. These are my skeptical issues / questions: 1). If u have this problem wouldn't u keep an eye on the flight time and pee before they go into landing mode? 2) if this is such a problem for u wouldn't u wear depends? 3). Maybe things have changed, but I thought when in landing mode u can't leave seat or unbuckle seat belt....so how do u "squat in the aisle"? 4) Shouldn't yahoo do some research before publishing / linking a story?

So I read this story abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/elderly-man-kills-killed-wife-alzheimers-47326413About an old guy that killed his wife. She was old and had Alzheimer's. Then he committed suicide. In the comment section it had people commenting to the effect Alzheimer's sucks. He was heartbroken. He did a mercy killing / euthanasia.....and other sympathetic type comments. I guess I am a contrarian ...,or cold hearted. Because I read it and I was like, he complained to his family how his wife's condition was stressing him. Next thing the wife is dead and buried in the yard without anyone else knowing but the husband. Police come to check on wife due to family concerns and ONLY then does he kill himself. Seems more on the shady side than " heartbroken" side to me. Although I am not about to call the dude a stone cold killer, I wouldn't take the "supportive" tone of some of the commenters....

Anyway, this seems beyond stupid to worry about formatting and a small typo or 2. It should be the content / merit that counts unless it was written on toilet paper and crayon or something stupid.
Oh my gosh , they used 1.5 space and not double space. (Sarcasm)

I read that DeVos issued a directive that no further applications would be turned down because of formatting issues, but said the ones that had already been turned down for those reasons would not be reviewed. If she knows it was the wrong thing to do and she doesn't go back to the beginning to correct it, she's lost any credibility she may have had. I didn't think she had any credibility, this further reinforces my opinion that she has no business where she is. You did read the part that these were standards left over from the Obama admin didn't you?

I'm not worried about leaving an inheritance (no kids, and if I did I still wouldn't worry about it)....and I have no problems losing everything to get gov't to pay for care if needed......but I don't want to leave my wife behind with nothing.....for example: I understand they can take the house even if it is in both of our names and I need the care and can't pay otherwise......not sure if that is true or not......then where will wife live?

Hire only the best people? ex: Gen Flynn....and while we're at it, what about all those generals he hired? I though he said during the campaign most generals didn't know what they were doing since we did badly in Iraq & Afghanistan, and that he (Trump) knew more than the generals.......so why hire so many?

Trust me I am totally over her not listening. I'm just not liking where this is heading. And my point with the divorce settlement is that if not for that she would have nothing as she has not added any additional savings. And her husband had to borrow money to pay the settlement so it's not like they both saved money. Well, he certainly got screwed in that divorce! Unless he got to keep the house or something.
He got to keep the house

The $200 K is from divorce settlement, NOT from her saving her salary. For having a low paying job she did OK. BUT she didn't need a car (subway). She could have saved some money. Waited to take SS later and other things. The thing is I don't understand the not listening. I graduate with a BS in business and was #2 in my class (mediocre school though) and was in the top 20% of my MBA class (mediocre school) and none of my family wants to listen to me. I have a computer problem- I ask my brother who is good with computers. During my MBA project I have a quickbooks question I call my mom who uses it for her job. It will be interesting how this plays out. And unfortunately I suspect it will be a bit sad too. If she was a contributing member of the household during the marriage that is not true. 200k is a lot more than most seniors have at retirement these days, especially divorced women. She may not be the best saver but she is a million miles from being the worst. It seems like your real issue is that she doesn't just do what you tell her. I can understand how that is annoying, trust me. But from what you have said so far, it doesn't sound as though she has actually asked for advice or money, so you kind of just have to get over it. Trust me I am totally over her not listening. I'm just not liking where this is heading. And my point with the divorce settlement is that if not for that she would have nothing as she has not added any additional savings. And her husband had to borrow money to pay the settlement so it's not like they both saved money.

MJ I missed the part where I said I don't care what happens to my mom?
What I said was I am not going to be involved. As my previously involvement did no good as mom does what she will.
when push comes to shove I will help with some baseline support with strings attached. But she's not going to listen until she totally fails, unfortunately. And that is where my "attitude" comes in. Most of this could have been avoided.
And apartment NOT rent controlled and in queeens.

Also the burned down house was not insured and land not worth much. And they been paying tax on it. It's all in brothers name because at time the parents set it up she was married and brother wasn't so parents thinking was she would taken care of by husband but the brother didn't have someone to take care of him. Gotta love old people's views on finance theories.

I agree $200K is something. But not much.
Honestly I don't know her "plan" and at this point I don't want to know. Whatever it is I am sure it will make no sense and she won't listen to anything I say so I try to pretend to be supportive and try to change the subject.
About 5 years ago she mentioned moving to Florida and living in this small prefab building thing (kind of like a nice version of a trailer). You could buy it for $20k but had to pay a monthly maintenance fee. Her friend did that. Then friend had major health issues and had to sell at a loss and move in with family in NYC. So I am not sure if this is still the plan.
I was surprised when my wife said she could live in our basement. I don't think she thought that through. I don't think it would be fair to my wife since she has patents in Europe in a similar situation. But they own their house (although it's falling apart and it's too big for them to maintain- mowing lawn, cleaning, etc. ) and have European support system (although it's not as good as it was. ). And her brother lives close to them but he doesn't help at all.
I am going to wait and see how it plays out. She MIGHT not lose her job. But from what she said I think she will. We'll see.

I assume there is no pension or 401-k? Is the house paid for, or does she rent? No pension, no 401k. She rents a small apartment in NYC. She has about $200,000 in savings accounts and T-bills. That's it. She never made a lot of money. But she had some money after the divorce she should have used better than T-bills. Also her parents left her and her brother a house (worth about $300 K I would say). They procrastinated and brother is a jerk too, and by the time they were going to do anything it caught fire.

More of a vent then a question
So my mom is one of these irresponsible people. She never earned a lot. She made the tragic mistake of picking the wrong partner. Then after the divorce (25 years ago) she was close minded about finances. She did survive cancer though. Despite me pestering her about investing, advising her NOT to take her SS early, and other financial things - she NEVER invested and took SS early (while she still worked). So she literally has almost nothing saved and now she thinks she will lose her job (she is now 70 and has worked most of her life).
Her company is merging with another and she is pretty sure she will lose her job. She says she was planning to retire at 71 anyway (in my head I was like "how?") so she says she's not too worried, but I think she's not thinking it through.
I am done giving advice as she does the opposite regardless......The other thing she mentioned is she is pretty sure the mid level manager that supervises her will lose his job too. He is 64. And they were talking among themselves in private, and he mentioned to my mom- "at least you have your SS check".........64 and a mid level manager and nothing saved?!?? Mom is a secretary.

And I work for the government and retired military so I know there is a Federal LTIC I can qualify for too.......just not sure how good it is (but if it's as good as the other government bennies, than it should be good---BUT I like to review these things for myself)
As far as self insuring- that would be hella expensive, no?

So I kind of know the basics. But a few specific questions.
Let's see u have a policy that pays for 3 years of care. And then assume at age 68 u need LTC for 3 years. Is your policy now null and void? What if u recover and then at age 77 need 3 more years of LTC? Can I still use same policy?
As far as selecting the term, how can u really predict how many years you may need care? So is the idea to get 5 years since that's the look back and then transfer ur assets (if married) ASAP?
Hope that kind of makes sense. It's one of my concerns about retiring early if I pull the trigger in 5 years.
Thanks.
