Does his replacement have to be vetted by the Senate?

Comey served his purpose; he isn't useful any more... . And I bet that this firing has nothing to do with the fact that he made a false report to congress regarding the HRC emails and everything to do with the fact that he actually mentioned that dt has been under investigation for his ties with Putin since last June at the least and is still not cleared... The good little soldier with his finger on the scale is not behaving like the perfect puppet at the moment so out the door he goes.

Does his replacement have to be vetted by the Senate? The FBI director is appointed for a 10 year term and has to be confirmed by the Senate.

Does his replacement have to be vetted by the Senate? "Federal statute provides that the Director of the FBI is to be appointed by the President by and with the advice and consent of the Senate"

I wonder if Comey feels more than "mildly nauseous" now? Screwed up the election (intentionally or not), put the moron in charge, and gets fired for it anyway.

Funny little tidbit: Trump reportedly fired Comey at the recommendation of two people, one of whom is Sessions. Sessions, per this report the report I linked in response, was prior to today the only FBI director fired since 1968! He must have felt lonely and wanted some company here

Does his replacement have to be vetted by the Senate? The FBI director is appointed for a 10 year term and has to be confirmed by the Senate. This will be the cat fight of all cat fights. Democrats will not back unless it is a democrat that gived the name to Trump for nomination. Republicans will not stick together for whoever gets nominated. I am surprised how quiet some Democratic Senators are so far. Some have even said it had to be done. I guess they hated Comey more than Trump did. The question is, "is this ala President Nixon and the Saturday night massacre" of the then AG, or was this necessary because Comey interrupted both campaigns and there was nothing there in both camps to release the statements Comey made.

Newsflash. Obama was not running for election.... And he is far from "gone"... Will today he was in Milan Italy cashing in on a speech at a convention on "food security". Afterwards he was interviewed and said he is fighting for closet space in the bedroom with Michelle, and learning how to operate the coffee maker to the ultimate delight of the audience.

... The question is, "is this ala President Nixon and the Saturday night massacre" of the then AG, or was this necessary because Comey interrupted both campaigns and there was nothing there in both camps to release the statements Comey made. Chris Mathews on MSNBC just called it TUESDAY NIGHT MASSACRE LOL, that did not take long. My brain went there and I think it absurd to compare it. On October 20, 1973, in an unprecedented show of executive power, Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox, but both men refused and resigned their posts in protest. The role of attorney general then fell to Solicitor General Robert Bork, who reluctantly complied with Nixon’s request and dismissed Cox. www.history.com/news/ask-history/what-was-the-saturday-night-massacre

Let's get real for a minute. Now MSNBC and CNN are on fire over Trump Senator Schumer is attacking Trump.
Does anyone believe for real that by firing Comey the investigation will disappear? Shit Comey would already have the info needed to bring him down.
If Trump wanted to stop the investigation he would have fired him on day one.

Look at Yates testimony - she didn't reveal anything secret.

No. Take on a very minor priority with minimal resources committed to it making it very difficult for it to get anywhere? Perhaps.

Nope. Clinton fired William Sessions in 1993 after taking office, not Jeff.
