I know this is usually done on WIR but I like you guys better. Don't you feel special Okay for me I don't count normal monthly expenses which include rent, gas (for the house), cable/internet/phone, student loan, and insurance. Everything else I have to track. So far I filled up for $50 and spent $45 on groceries and $2 for a Timmy's. $97 so far.

point for this thread is ? so far, my expenditures for yesterday and today have been at the grocery store for food, and the drug store for cough syrup, a couple small gifts for the grandkids (for later) and hangers.

It is to help me track what I am spending. I need to become a concious spender again.

ahhhhhh. then you need to carry a little notebook in your pocket and write down everything you spend on, then copy to an excel spreadsheet that you can analyze for your spending trends. Then, you'll see how much you are actually wasting on junk, how much you didn't need to buy, and what your actual core needs are, rather than your wants.

But a notebook and excel sheet won't say good going or smarten up like folks on the board will.

then you'll need to post your notebook entries for your daily expenses and a screenshot of your spreadsheet for us to review if you want our 2 cents.

I think posting "publicly" helps with accountability, honesty and encouragement for some. I'm too scared to post my own numbers So far just $58 on groceries, mostly meat (a couple pork roasts, lots of sausage and ground sirloin), a few fruits/veggies and other stuff. Oh, and bacon, lots of bacon mmmmm..... Actually, now that I think about it, the grocery cart was pretty full!

is the bacon a want or need??? hafta define luxury or necessity. We are bacon-holics, too, so it is a need for us, and we hafta budget it in by removing the junk treats from our budget.

The bacon (aka pig candy) was $2.99 a pound (with coupon) and something I don't get very often, so I grabbed some I actually used the last of what I had stored in the freezer to make potato soup not long ago. I have to ration it--I could eat it daily but my waist-line wouldn't appreciate it.

no such thing as cooking a few strips of bacon for the green beans. it's cooking the whole package, and eating the leftovers for dessert. and then we hafta run a mile or diet for a day to compensate for all the grease and fat. Luckily we like our bacon very crispy, and cook out all the fat until it's just this side of burnt.

So far I haven't spent anything in January (day 3 big deal right...). I will need to go to the store soon though because I am out of milk and I need some more produce.

Hmmm, spending in January. So far, $27 for dinner out New Year's Day, $20 to fill up car, $10 senior tickets for 2 to see Chronicles of Narnia/Dawntreader yesterday, $31 for sale items for 25% off coupon at hardware store ( lightbulbs, salt and such), and $45 spent on using two more 20% off coupons at Dollar General, spent on TP, paper towels, tissues, and two lightbulbs. That comes to $ 133, but nothing was wasted.

(point for this thread is ? I wonder if there has to be a point. This is a good idea to keep us grounded and accountable to ourselves. As a matter of fact, I think I will do this on my blog. Journal every cent spent and saved. Maybe someone can learn from my experience. Thank you laterbloomer. I spent 1.00 on a BK breakfast sandwich today. It was a treat!

My spending for January: - $25 on gas - $12 on an emergency trip to the grocery store for 2 boxes of kleenex, Nyquil, 2 cans of chicken noodle soup, and a loaf of bread. I woke up this morning with a cold/flu. Not sure what it is but I have a sore throat, runny nose, and I can't stop sneezing

Timmy's is a coffee from the Tim Hortons chain. Way better than Starbucks! ;D

I ended up going to the store today. I spent 20 and some change on milk, produce, and items needed for a potluck contribution tomorrow.

So far in January: $15 gas for truck, $1 greeting cards, $4 in groceries, and $8 for snacks/fast food . Man, that last one is an eye opener. Totally unnecessary. Have to work on that. P.S. I have lurked for years on Mary Hunt's Debt Proof Living boards, and there is a thread where people post every penny they spend in order to be accountable to themselves and others.

Jan is always low spend for me. I work in education so we get a check end of nov, 15 dec and last day before break. This means we don't get paid again until 15 of Jan.
I paid my last bit of a CC off today. So 70 spent thus far. I need to pay some bills tomorrow. Then I'm sitting on the rest.

Please don't hate on me - I spent $15 on chinese take out for DS and me. But, I will get 2 meals out of it (for me anyhow) AND, it kept me from totally eating all the junk that's still in the pantry. First day back to work, and didn't pack appropriately to take care of the afternoon melt down

I know, I know!!! But I reallllllly overindulged during the holidays, and I was starving I wasn't counting on DS being home for dinner since he went out of town to visit some of his college buddies, and didn't have anything thawed for dinner. I promise, I'll do better!!! ;D BTW, I love these smilies!!!

Here goes for accountability...I'm going to start with Dec 30th since I went to the grocery store and spent $18 on 5 frozen pzzas, 4 boxes of crackers, a 12pk of coke, corn muffin mix and forgot what else. I went bridal dress shopping an hour and a half away with a friend on Friday and spent $7 on lunch at Arby's. Stayed home Saturday. Went an hour out of town on Sunday and spent $45 on a blouse, a sweater, and a few tank tops at a going out of business sale. ( I purposefully went over there to look for one or two new tops for work and was saddened to see them closing.) Spent $6 on food/drink while I was over there. Put $40 into the gas tank. Yesterday I spent $4 on lunch to eat with coworker. She needed to get out of the office and talk and invited me to join her. I left my .78 ravioli in my desk for today.
Needless to say this month really hasn't started out well for me when it comes to spending money on eating out.

We have some major bills coming up so I am on a no spending period. We bought groceries yesterday and spent about $150. That will be for four people and for 2 weeks. I still need to get a few things we forgot. No eating out, no buying soda from Mcdonalds. I love their Diet Coke. This Saturday our ds has a wrestling tournament so we will spend to get in, but will pack a lunch so we don't eat out.
