I'm in on the low-spend January and the public-square lashings, LOL.
So far, I have spent $78 on groceries/ health and beauty aids/ cleaning supplies and a $6.88 lamp shade for a oft-used lamp that had no shade. I also spent $34 in gas and $4 in tolls for DS's commute to school. Today, DH will pick up 4 gallons of milk at $2.49/gallon, so $9.96 more. And I need stamps (are the forevers still .47 each? So a roll of 20 will be $9.40).
Wow, without even trying I'm already up to $135.36.
I'm trying to eke through the rest of the week with the produce I have on hand. We'll see...

Today I spent $24.00 on tickets to the upcoming high school play. DD is in the play so of course I will attend and she wants the grandparents there also. I also spent $1.99 on cheap dental floss for my desk at work. I will spare you the details on the roast beef stuck between my teeth.

I was thinking that I got through today without any unplanned spending, but then I remembered that I stopped at the liquor store on my way home. Does it count if I didn't drink any of it? The $5 for a tumbling class for DD was planned. We found a gym that only charges $5/kid for an hour because we put them on our own cheer insurance. Sweet. Everywhere else is at least $30/half hour.

Today is my first day back full time from vacation over the holidays, and you would think it would be a no spend day, but no, I hafta take MIL to doctor which in turn means filling up the gas tank (probably on her car too, UGH!!! I always seem to get stuck taking her somewhere AFTER everyone else has run her tank dry!) Maybe I will start tomorrow...does that count as procrastinating, if so I can check that off of my NYE resolution list and get it out of the way!

I picked up the few things we needed at the store yesterday $ 4.99. It looks like I'll have to pick up some more fruit by the end of the week. I bought a bag of oranges and apples and their almost gone. I won't complain at least their eating fruit. No spend today. Brought my lunch and drinks and snacks to work.

Wow, already crossing things off your NY resolution list? The week isn't even over. I haven't made any resolutions yet, kind of busy right now, I can just do it tomorrow.

I checked out this book from the library about being thrifty... and it talked about a group in CA who would only spend on food and medicine. Start out doing it for a month to see how you do.
So far, for the month of January, I blew it. I haven't bought any groceries yet (but will probably buy milk tomorrow), but I bought a Cricut cartidge on ebay. I still have 2 more I want, but my price point for each is $15. The one I won was only $14.
So if I make an exception for that, I've done pretty good so far! Shawn in FL

Ok! I didn't need to spend anything today either! Go me! I might even be able to get to the weekend...but then I have to take my GF out for her Christmas gift. I'll fill in my groceries the same day. I don't think there is anything else I need just yet.

WTG sid!!! I'm looking good for getting through today!
Ny main mission here is working well. I am thinking about what I want to spend my money on. I have a grocery list of things to get but it is really targetted. The trick will be to not go off list once I'm in the store. And it looks like the Xmas gift shopping trip won't happen until Feb or March!

Tim Horton's is a Canadian Coffee Shop Chain. A Timmy's is a coffee from there. Well as a noun it's a coffee. Sometimes it's an adverb as in "a Timmy's run" which means you are taking orders to go do a pick up. Some Timmy's on the other hand usually refers to a can of their coffee. Hope this helps

I had to put $45 worth of gas in my car today. Normally I could make that last for 2 weeks but I have to take DS back to college on Monday. So much for 2 weeks worth of gas! I'm taking my pup to the groomer tomorrow, so another $70 spent. I'm going to Aldi's to get groceries and Wegmans for a couple of things that Aldi's doesn't carry or I don't care for, but I have a gift card from DD, so Wegman's will be free . I have a couple of returns, so that will bring in an extra $30-$40. Will hopefully meet my best friend for lunch so will have to spend a little more than I was expecting, but only about $4-5 more.

See! This is working for me! I'm getting excited about the days I get through without spending money! A little part of me wants to go out for lunch but that would blow my no spend day so I will go home and scrounge the fridge. It is also making me get organised. I need to get groceries and get my hair cut and a couple of other things so I scheduling them all tomorrow so that it doesn't blow my other non spend days. This is blocking the leaks!

I did it!!! I got to the weekend with no spending! So tomorrow shouldn't go over $100 with groceries and getting my hair cut. Go me! Go me! Instead of shopping I am going to get a bunch of projects I have gathered that I was thinking of as my winter projects. Wouldn't you know, it's winter

well, spent some money today $77 at grocery store, but should last at least 2-3 weeks, with maybe some veggies/milk thrown in somewhere. $73 for pup's grooming (included $10 tip). $78 at Target for a new rug in front of the shower (the current one is too small and I get some leak from around the shower curtain which soaks into the grout), sweat pants, exercise video, and a couple of odds and ends. $22 at Wegmans for a couple more groceries that I couldn't get at Aldi's but used a gift card. $2.50 for pretzel, which was my lunch. Not too bad, just hate spending it all in one day!

I was/am doing very good on the low/no spend month. Yesterday though I met DD at school between school and play practice. You could just see the exhaustion and stress on her face. She has way over extended herself. I took her to Dairy Queen for a blizzard. That was $3.49 I hadn't planned on spending, but the 20 minutes we got to spend talking and giving her a break was worth it. Although while we were talking she tells me that she needs 3 $30.00 checks to pay for the college course she is taking though the high school. $90.00 is cheap for three college courses so I will write out the checks this weekend. Then she needed $6.00 for a ticket to go see a play about Calculus. You get extra credit if you go see the play and she is really struggling with Calculus and needs every point that she can get.
While I wasn't planning on spending that money I was glad I was able to do it without having to think about where it would come from. In the back of my brain somewhere I knew that I would have to pay for college credits this month I just kind of forgot about it temporarily.

My bank balance is healthy enough that I can do those things and when I'm budgetting just decide where I want to get my balance up to.

I managed to leave my wallet at home for the past two days. It wasn't intentional. If I'd had it yesterday, I would have broken down and had my nails done. I wash my hands about 100 times a day and they're a mess. Instead, I have ugly nails and I'm using lots of lotion. Then today I was hankering for lunch from the Whole Foods hot bar. That would have set me back $6-$8. Both times, no money. I'm actually quite happy about it. I have enough food on hand to last a few more days and enough projects in process that I don't actually need to leave the house for the next two days, which I have off. Other than the unscheduled liquor store stop , I've been good.

Oh man I did ok getting my hair done. Whole thing with tip (yes I tip, get over it ) was $40, exactly what I expected. Then I got into the grocery store. Mayo was on half price. The laundry thing I wanted, the sheet that is 3 in 1, was on for half price, I'm out of cheese and that wasn't on half price...you're getting the picture. So $108 later....but I stocked up on a bunch of things that will last me for ages so I think I can keep the rest of my groceries under $50 for the rest of the month so it might work out in the wash.

I did well until yesterday. I did score some cheap-ish gas -- $2.99 if I paid cash. But, then I hit the grocery store --- $183.xx!!! I did stock up on some really good sales and did stock up on hamburger and chicken and citrus fruits -- shouldn't need any more of those things for the rest of the month. But, I still need a few more things for the coming week or so. At least we haven't eaten out yet this week...

So far this month I have spent $71.00 on food for the two of us. Other than a gallon of milk about mid week I shouldn't need to get any more food until next weekend. Of the $71 I spent $18 on two huge roasts. They had them BOGO. Each roast was over 4lbs, it actually came out to $2.19 a pound this way. Both are in the freezer for a later date.

Nice on the roasts Sharon! Today I am actually writing out my menu plan. I have enough food to feed me for the rest of the month and still have my staples. Just need to get the parishables.
