Today will be a no spend for us. We are snowed in....only good thing about winter storms. That's cheating!!!! ;D Dinner bought for me Tuesday, lunch bought for me today...this is helping to stretch the groceries. But I need to get my nails done. Not an option not too. My real nails are TERRIBLE! So there's $30 gone.

$625 variable expenses for the month...so far....I would hate to see what kind of damage I'd be doing if I wasn't watching what I spend.

I did it!!! A no spend day!!! This one was tough. I have become obsessed about going for sushi again. I am compensating myself with a tuna whole wheat rotini salad. But I am home and didn't spend today!! Happy Dance!

Forgive me SS for I am about to spend. A bunch of friends are going out to dinner. The dinner is just an excuse to visit. BUT I am going to make my dinner at home and just do an appetiser there. I'll see how cheap I can get out.

I've spent approximately 208.00 this month, on gifts and everything else. My savings saw an additional 316.75 so far. My budget is simple.
I take out a set amount a week for food, gas, personal needs, clothes and anything else I need. What I don't spend, I save. I also have an additional form of income that I save each month. My gift money is separate and earned through bottle returns, rebates, swagbucks, surveys, all the change, etc. So when I spend that money, I transfer it to the account that pays my CC.

We did pretty good this weekend. Ds has a wrestling tournament so we paid to get in brought our food for lunch. We had friends over for the Packer game. We had to buy a case of beer and some noodles but we had everything else on hand. We spent that money from our grocery money so it was nothing extra.
Packers are going to the Super Bowl!! Go Packers ;D

Oh I give up!!! I went to get my Twinrix and malaria stuff for going to Punta Cana in March...$183!!!!Then I stopped by Reitmans and they were having a crazy sale on. 3 tops and 2 pairs of pants for $46.
I really wonder what would have happened if I hadn't been watching my spending this month.
ETA - $974 for the month. I didn't end up spending when I went out with friends. We shared some appetizers and one of my friends treated.

Sigh, my goal now is to finish the month without spending and then do a REAL low spend February! I'm looking at this as my practise month. I have over a half a tank of gas and lots of food to get me through.

Yeah, let's try the February thing. January just didn't work out. I got DH's credit card bill yesterday. It's the only thing I don't have online access to so I was blindsided by the numbers. Not that he spent it on anything unexpected, just that the numbers were so high. Par for the course, this month. Oh, and starting tomorrow, I need to spend $50/week on copays for physical therapy.

Thank you malarky! You don't leave me alone in my shame! So I did manage a no spend day yesterday. I know it seems useless to still be doing this with how badly I blew it, but I might as well get a good baseline and in a couple of months I can say "Look how much better I did".

Count me in for the February challenge. I can't help myself -- I am compelled by a force greater than me to take advantage of loss leaders and good sales at the grocery store. I am oddly unable to wither down my pantry too far. On the bright side, I didn't buy treats or stray from my list, but still, we really could have eat most of the month on what we have already.
Hanging head in shame...

Gosh, I can't get through the month without spending money and I can't write a proper sentence...
That should be "could have eaten..."

I'm really looking forward to trying this in February also. I think I've spent less in January than usual because I stopped going out for lunch everyday - a bad habit I fell into last year.
But I plan on actually tracking all my spending starting in February. I'll probably be among the worst - I'm nowhere near as good as most of you at grocery shopping. But I'm need to improve upon what I'm doing, not necessary do the same thing someone else is doing. (did that sentence make sense?)

This thread has been good for me this month. While I have spent more than I should have and there is room for improvement I came in about $100 under for the month on my grocery budget. That paid for two visits to the chiropracter which were desparately needed. I need to work on the vending maching habit and resorting to going to out lunch when I am tired. I have been working crazy hours and am exhausted. That is no excuse for not making a lunch and eating it. Bring on February.

It makes perfect sense waffle.
Sharon it was actually good for me too. I didn't realise just how many things would come up so not going clothes shopping was a good plan.

I was looking in the cupboards last night and saw a bunch of tomato and chicken noodle soup. February is going to be soup month! I also have most of the makings of French Onion Soup! I love that and haven't made it in ages. I'm not going to cheat and stock up on groceries now, or fill the car up with gas. The point is to save money, not just switch when I spend it. But I see the makings of a plan coming together.

Ok, I just spent $56 on groceries, bringing my total for the month to $231. But what ya gotta know is that normally I am over $350 for just me.

I will have to do a grocery shopping this weekend milk, bread the usual. DD is doing better than I am. She is allowed to have hot lunch at school one a week. It costs about $20 every other month. Today was early release from school because of finals but then she needed to go back for an afternoon performance of the play. I told her to go with some friends and pick up lunch somewhere. She came home and made a sandwich "because we need to be saving money for college". I didn't tell her I went out to eat.

I had my OT/PT evaluation today. Could I do three days a week? That's $75!! I need to do this or I won't be able to work or even function at home, but there goes all the money I was putting into savings, at least for the short term. Plus I'm looking at two potential surgeries. AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!! Oh, and even though I pay off my credit card bills in full every month I screwed up and misread the bill so the 20 cents under that I paid, resulted in a $12 interest charge. With two cycle billing, that little error should cost me about $25. My fault, I know, but aggravating just the same. Dare I mention the fact that DD didn't realize that her prepaid iTunes was used up and the stuff she bought was charged to my card? Ever since I decided to try to watch my spending it seems like the universe is against me. Maybe it was always true and I just didn't notice.

3 more days and I won't leave the house for two of them.
Alright! I confess! The good news is I printed off a couple of 40% off coupons for Michaels and used them appropriately. Pretty good for a novice couponer. The bad news is the frames still cost me $20/each. But they really do look awesome!!! I posted a pic over on the saving money and improving your life thread.

I need to go grocery shopping today to pick up a few thing to get through the weekend before payday on Monday. Fortunately the grocery store has both eggs and milk on a good sale this weekend. Eggs are .99 a dozen and milk is 1.98 a gallon and asparagus 1.69 a lb. The total should be under $30.00 for the weekend.
DD and I went out for pizza last night. We both needed the down time and we needed to get caught up on where various scholarship applications stand etc.

Malarky best wishes on your therapy and hoping that the surgeries will not be necessary. How will that affect your job search? You have mentioned needing to make a change.

Thankfully my boss talked me out of quitting my job or else I'd be in all sorts of trouble right now. As it is, I can pretty much do a bare minimum at work and it's OK. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be true if I were just starting out elsewhere.

Oh, I'm glad you are still employed malarky. It sounds like your boss appreciates you. Well today was a no spend day! True I didn't leave the house but hey! There is always delivery and the shopping channel ya know. I did have to resist temptation.
