so Trump is going to take action that will raise the price of mexican produce, thereby increasing the demand for US grown produce because it would be cheaper. Illegal immigrants from central america harvest said produce. Won't that increase the likelihood of illegal immigration? Nope, if we roll back the child labor laws, we can get the kids to pick the crops at half the adult wages.
Get the kids off the welfare rolls, earning wages to help support their families, providing farmers with crazy low labor costs - that's just good capitalism.
It's not like the kids legs are long enough to work behind a McDonald's counter or drive a truck, so what other jobs can they get? They should be grateful for the chance to earn some money.

Until cheap imports from Mexico destroyed their livelyhood, because cost in Florida was so much more than Mexico. Now with all our illegal immigrants in Florida that can work the farms, Florida farmers can now grow tomatoes for eveyone! Another win for the U.S.A.

Liquidate every account now and buy gold! I have contended that this will be a slow collapse.
there is plenty of time.
4 month low...DJIA closes below 25,000. -7% this month.
We're overdue for a contraction. Can't make any money if it just stays high. Time to start shorting ?

The cost increase would be mostly short term, economy of scale and all. Yes, bus those immigrants to those Florida farms for labor. It'll add to the labor savings, resulting in a better price.

I'm not an expert by any means in the workings of tomato farming, but I saw plenty of tomato farms in FL. Also, is there more of a demand for tomatoes than there used to be with better shipping and storage? If you lived in the north, you used to be SOL if you wanted a tomato in January.

I am the worst short seller on the planet. if I had not shorted the market in my 40+ years of investing, I would have another six figures in my IRA. I will NEVER short the market again. I am better at timing when to get out, and parking my money.
shorting is either for losers, or for people that are way smarter than me. or both, I guess.

More demand for 'tomato adjacent' tomatoes.
They genetically modified them to turn red before they were actually ripe, and with a thicker flesh so they can be shipped green and arrive red, and be sold as 'tomatoes.'
However, as with peaches, they are just rough drafts of the real thing. A real ripe peach, or a real ripe tomato, is too fragile for long distance transportation (but so extremely divine).
Now I'm hungry for a good tomato sandwich and all my tomatoes on my plants are still green....

I buy the old open pollinated non gmo tomato plants, they are soooo much better. That's why I hate to have to give up raising my own and canning. Really going to miss my garden one day.

Have conservatives had enough? Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters the party spent “almost our entire lunch” going back and forth with the administration and warned afterward “there is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that's for sure.” Summing up the mood of the lunch, Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) said, according to sources familiar with the matter: the administration "is trying to use tariffs to solve every problem but HIV and climate change.”www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/republicans-threaten-revolt-may-block-trumps-mexico-tariffs/ar-AACoix1?ocid=spartandhp

Your definition of republican is interesting.
It’s also probably why fewer and fewer identify themselves as such every day...

They are down 200 on futures right now. Bet it really plummets once the market opens in the morning. Where are we at now?

"Republican " seems to be becoming "authoritarian". From there it is an easy next step to dictatorial.

If he lowers rates now what happens when we really tank?
And is that really what he said? Or how it’s being read?

in other words, same old same old.
but it will be worse next time. the deficits will soar, because of our reduced tax base.

Then it will recover, and we'll pay the debt maintenance on a reduced value dollar. Saving our asses again, to repeat the cycle again.

According to commentators...granted CNN...members of GOP seem to be unhappy with recent Donald doings...definitely Florida, Texas...actually all over...Mid American farmers losing farms that have been in family for decades...can't pass on...also afraid of his use of "emergency powers" ...actually together with Dems on this one... Am wondering once the actual campaign for President gets going...if the one, whoever, opposes the Donald, goes into those States he has won, electoral wise , in 2016, and just points out the damage his doings have done to those former supporters, if enough might start leaving him....both $ SUPPORT AND ACTUAL SUPPORT....

If I am following you correctly, you are supporting your claim that it "isn't happening" because it hasn't happened in this country in its past. The problem with that arguement is the Presidency has never held the level of power that it currently holds and President Trump is pushing it to even higher levels. If the American people accept that trend and encourage it by reelecting him, then the result will be a dictatorship at some point in the future, IM(not so)HO of course.

Five years in the future, when the economy is stalled in a recession, and we've gotten entangled in a couple more military actions, and there's been another large scale terrorist attack on our nation, and the POTUS announces it's just to risky to hold elections in such troubled times, so it's best if he and the military just takes over and keeps running everything until it all evens out again.
And also, under martial law, we'll have to temporarily cut out that freedom of the press thing because - you know - fake news and all that. Unpatriotic to say anything negative about the Great Father while the nation is in such peril.
I'll be just for a short while, then we'll get right back to free elections, freedom of the press, yadda yadda.
Probably the Germans and Italians thought it wouldn't happen to them, either.

I have been afraid ever since he got in. It can happen and I think if he gets another 4 years it will happen. This mess he is creating is not sustainable and will crater.
Our poor country that so many put so much into and so many died for, may end up another bankrupt casualty of the trump.
