Since everyone is worried about the price they will be paying this summer on tomatoes, I suggest everyone head to Home Depot, Wal Mart, Lowes, etc and buy some tomato plants. Everyone can enjoy theit "freedom tomatoes" later this summer. Easy to grow them anywhere, even in pots on patios! Just planted 12 plants in the back yard. Might have to set up a stand out on the street this summer and cash in! I understand your post is supposed to bring some humor to the discussion, or that's how I read it...however, in all seriousness...our imports from Mexico of fruits and vegetables amounts to almost $13 Billion a year in product...It is not one sided as our exports to Mexico of food products is almost $18 Billion worth...with that kind of $ of business, there are a lot of Americans and Mexicans involved in having or not employment plus buildings rented, trucks and drivers involved... While some here might have confidence that the Donald, because he says he's the greatest businessman ever, is what he claims he is... I don't believe he is as so many top rated economist and businessman feel the same way..and I believe he will damage and screw up this particular business for both countries... Also just out, his tariffs are now suggesting a add on to Automobile prices of way over a thousand dollar cost each vehicle that will affect sales and most likely lead to layoffs of very good paying jobs in our auto industry...I believe many of those workers, like those in the agriculture industry, big supporters of the Donald back in 2016. -------------------------------------------------- migrationfiles.ucdavis.edu/uploads/farm-labor/2017/11/28/zahniser-us-produce-imports-from-mexico.pdf

There have already been thousands of layoffs in the auto industry, they said sales are the lowest in 4 years. People just can't afford those kinds of prices for a new car in many cases. Over $35k for a new vehicle? We may go to buying program or rental return cars again.

Think $75,000 to up top $100,000 People are also still renting these $50,000 cost vehicles.

I think one day all this stuff will come to a head and it will just implode. But then it could just meander along for awhile. But no matter what, he is in 4 more years, our America will not be recognizable or desirable. As in the country was fundamentally changed by Obama, and now it's going back ? I will still desire to live here when Trump gets 4 more. I expect little change, if any. You mean like how he took a lot of power and did things that shouldn't have been done by executive order. Or how spending /debt increased significantly? I see Trump continuing those things and further deteriorating the country.

jma 23 you are putting words in my mouth. Where did I say its ok for Biden to use negative advertising. Even so there is negative and there is character assassination. No, I said it "seems" that way. As in by omission.

Lmao. Yes. I expected Trump to backtrack and announce he saved the world. It’s what he does. He threatens to burn down the house, and then puts himself forth as a savior because he doesn’t light the match.
What the fuck has actually been ‘solved’ by any version of this play?

Mexico caved? Then I guess there's no longer any need for a wall, correct?

Well, first of all Mexico didn't "cave" to anything....like the false emergency that DT tried to put out there...the tariff. Mexico had agreed to this months ago. And DT "solved" the problem he created in the first place. He is an idiot!...or people who believe him are idiots....take your choice! So what other problem was he trying to distract everyone from keeping up with? Some of those law suits against him?

I just don't think he realized that his Congressional fan club would freak out & actually think about standing up to him.

So Mexico said they will make the effort. Like they said Mexico can't afford to establish and maintain refugee camps. They will temporarily try to do something to get him off their back, lip service. Then one morning he will wake up and decide he doesn't like what they are doing and slam 25% tariffs on them. He is flaky as hell.
It would be better to try and help those folks to stay in their own homes then try and push them back. From reading there is a humanitarian crisis down there. Also they said Venezuela has had 4 million people leave, wow.

Also they said Venezuela has had 4 million people leave, wow. John Kelly tried to tell him that....the problem at the border is just as much our own making. We, as a country, do not try to solve problems anymore, just stick a bandage on it and fight among ourselves. But economic development alone would be insufficient, he said. Many of the people heading north into the U.S. are seeking to escape the violence fomented by the illicit drug trade.
“The reason for the drug flow is our drug demand, and we do almost nothing about it,” he said. That directly results in “what’s happening in Central America: the breakdown of societies, the lack of police effectiveness and a lot of other things.”www.defenseone.com/threats/2017/05/john-kelly-lays-out-his-border-security-vision/137602/

John Kelly who is now helping run for profit ‘detention’ centers for children at the border? ....

will you still desire to live here if he doesn't?
Means little to me who's president. I'm quite insulated from what affects the general populace. My 'desire' wording was just an answer to country girl.

That country was quite well off and wealthy, until they went that route. Now they want to come here ?

They are staying in Columbia home to the the worst of worst Drug cartels, and yet we have millions of central Ameiricans claiming asylum at our southern border.......why?

I still remember the headlines of the Venezuelan government, in what was considered the 4th wealthiest country in the world, taking over private enterprise, for the good of the people, in true socialist fashion. Now it's ' humanitarian crisis'.

They way over did and put incompetents in the jobs, sound familiar?
They just opened the borders to let Venezuelans out to go to Columbia, and I doubt trump will recognize their claims. He doesn't want to recognize anybodies.
Funny how all this was under control under Obama now its going crazy. It is a disaster because trump started screaming about a wall, then the surge began. He created a crisis to have to solve just like he did for the farmers. But he is going to bankrupt them.

I was curious about the history and organizational structure of the Mexican National Guard. This is what I found. In February, Mexico's Congress approved the creation of a 60,000 strong National Guard to improve security in the country to deal with drug gangs, thousands of murders and people smuggling. Personnel have been drawn from existing federal, military and naval police rosters.link Should be an effective force in carrying out a mission.

Your article states less than 29,000 in 2018. It does not state where they applied for asylum, as in at the southern border? Many probably flew into the states by commercial alrilines and applied for asylum. Most are also middle class or above, well educated and employable in industries her in the states. Most would have actual documents showing who they are and where they are from. Do we really need more maids and lawn maintence workers here right now at minimum wage or less with no healthcare insurance? 29,000 does not cover more than two weeks of illegals flooding the border right now.

It makes sense. Because we have no way of knowing what they desire. Except escaping from their own failed attempt at utopia. Humanitarian crisis gets used a lot. Even you know that we are not punishing them for limiting access to this country. That would imply we have a duty to the whole world, to care for these denizens of failed countries. We don't. I feel our duty is to make sure the same thing doesn't happen here.
