It doesn't have to happen according to following article...Something called a "compromise"...remember that word...is on the table...be interesting to see if our elected have the brains to pick it up. --------------------------------------- "There is a deal practically sitting on the table right now: Republicans agree to amnesty for those covered by DACA, President Trump gives up on direct funding of the wall, and Democrats agree to common-sense reforms like E-Verify, ending chain migration and killing the diversity lottery. ----------------------------------------------------------------- www.cbsnews.com/news/commentary-a-government-shutdown-would-be-a-loser-for-democrats/========================================= Following is former post on earlier headed thread...piggy backed on this new header..So what is it going to be Donald? I read u actually were thinking it wouldn't be a bad thing...figure it was u saying such a thing, I can believe it...hopefully GOP leadership, same on the Democrats side, can sit down with a few or 's and come to some kind of interim agreement and screw our Donald...then if he wants to veto what ever they can come up with...fall out will be on his head... Wonder how many of the followers, the base, will still be hanging in there for him when their SS check is not deposited.,..and they really have no back up funds to fall back on..any other moneys owed them not deposited, food stamp cards are not filled, government offices...all that waste ...are closed....possible trains and busses stop running and all the other stuff I don't know about off hand just stops...Stock Market does a slow burn too...that seems to be only thing the Donald really cares about.. www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/12/06/three-things-standing-between-congress-and-government-shutdown/928121001/

My husband heard if it happens it would be for at least 3 weeks. I have to work no matter what, I worked during the shut down under Obama.
He probably won't work. I should get started on that honey do list besides tiling the entry way and half bath.

ok...so Social Security checks get mailed...food stamps too..[not for me but necessary for those who need tem...kids have to eat] Question...Am wondering if those workers who are furloughed should be paid, retroactively , as they have been in the past....Granted not working was not their idea...but when plants furlough workers for what ever reason...believe workers can file for unemployment...but are not paid by employers...usually...What about government workers...can they file , are eligible for unemployment insurance...Naturally government contribution with that many furloughed..will go up quite a bit.

Back in 2013 what I heard was if it went on then functions like social security payments etc could be delayed. Basically they couldn't function with a reduced work force forever. Since it's paid a month behind I would imagine most of January is set. My grandma received her letter this week stating what her January 2018 payment would be. If it went on, they would fall behind.

It’s amazing what gets shut down vs the useless things that could be shut down. Maybe they’re worried that people could survive without a lot of useless departments and employees.

They will be plotting what deals to make, what concessions to ask for to make it to Jan. 20th and beyond. Interesting they pick the end of Trump's first year as the new deadline.

Any party voting for shutdown is voting to lose seats in mid terms. IMO. Not going to guess on deals at this time. Ask me in January.

I think a shutdown will come. I think there will be one more short term CR after 19 Jan but then will be a shutdown.
Back in the day Trump said "we can use a good shut down".
I think after the next CR (the one after 19 Jan), Trump will try to paint the democrats as difficult, not budging, etc. and there will be a shutdown. (not saying Trump will be right by saying this about the democrats, just that it will be his strategy)

Trump is probably crafting his way to his 2020 loss or being asked not to run at all.

First of all Trump will win in 2020, whether we like it or not (and honestly, I am not too happy about it, but it is what it is) Second, I understandards Congress has to agree. The repubs will go along with Trump, just like they did for the photo op and calling out the democrats for "missing" that other budget meeting with POTUS

Dezi, how about changing the thread title? Maybe something like,
"Damn, the Donald keeps pulling everything through that helps the country".

How about Dezi titles his threads the way he wishes to title them and you title your threads the way you want to title them? That will work well and the discussion can stay on topic instead of getting into calling other posters out with your opinions of what they should have done. I'm lovin' that a lot!

The title is outdated or an outright untruth today. And as far as the rest of your response, I wish you had the enthusiasm to state this with the opposing opposition that litters conservative threads every day that is constantly ignored. (I assume mmhmm was not responding to me as a mod, I am not "condemning" a mod. Just wish certain posters would call the liberals out when they make off the cuff statements)

Its a joke Dezi. Remember how at least one poster told us Hilary wouldn't even live to the inauguration? Trump's less healthy than she is IMO, so I would not be surprised if a medical event did take him out before 2020.

oh realize it's a joke.....yet when u give it some thought...........mhhmmm Its more likely to be a stroke. And given his size it could be fatal, but I think that is both a blessing and a curse the medical science did not inform me of. Or a heart attack, but in both instances being significantly overweight pushes the odds higher that one won't survive it. But it is quick, so IMO that's the blessing part.
If are thin and poor you'd likely survive and be buried under medical bills you might never be able to repay ... but that's a different discussion. For another day, like after Christmas...

I don't think he's ever eaten a vegetable in his life. He lives on steak, KFC, McMuffins, chocolate cake and ice cream. And gallons of Coke daily. Plus he believes that exercise will kill him. I guess you all are worried how the price of all the food that Trump eats will effect the budget and the overall negotiations for the next continuing resolution?

The government DID shut down Friday. It shuts down every Friday. It'll probably shut down for a few days due to the extreme cold.
You know that's one way to cut government: the next time you hear that only "essential" government workers need to show up-- just tell the non-essential ones not to come back-- ever.
