Yes, I would get fired too. Sarcasm is a great way of descalation, as long as you are not on the receiving end! He had 30 plus years on the job. I assume he does retire with the pension.

I love how people are saying she was doing what was right and doing her job. No - she was following the law. He was (supposedly) doing what his boss said. She was doing what numerous judges have decided is constitutionally mandatory.

The ACLU is on this one. The detective had no warrant The patient was not even a suspect The patient was unconscious so coukd not give consent The nurse's supervisors (multiple) backed her up The detective roughed her up and then arrested her.
The dectective will retire with a full pension.... maybe a slap on the wrist.

A wake-up call for anyone who still believes that police brutality is a myth invented by perps . . .

The guy is still on active duty. Just not drawing blood. Pretty pathetic. I watched a press conference with the chief of police this morning, he was speaking to a recommendation to terminate him. did things change over the day? ETA: wait, I had the cases mixed up. the guy on video talking about only killing black people was this morning's presser. nm, as you were.

She was following hospital policy which was that the police needed a warrant to obtain this. For the police to forcibly take her out like that is absolutely ridiculous. Also, pulling her off the job in the ER? WHat about the other patients she was helping to treat? Wow.

Good op-ed piece from the Salt Lake City Tribune: Tribune Editorial: There’s no excuse for the apparent police brutality against a local nurse
This was not a case of a lone officer on a dark street approaching some unknown person who may or may not have been dangerous. When a person has the Constitution of the United States, the Supreme Court of the United States, the University of Utah and the Hippocratic Oath on her side, one might suppose that she would win the argument. And, in the long-run, University Hospital nurse Alex Wubbels was shown to be clearly in the right. But it appears that, for a short, dreadful time on July 26, the price Wubbels paid for being right was being harshly manhandled and wrongfully detained by a Salt Lake City police officer who was demanding to take a blood sample from one of Wubbels’ severely injured patients. According to body cam and security footage that has now circled the globe, Detective Jeff Payne was demanding to be allowed to take a blood sample from a severely burned truck driver who had been involved in an accident earlier that day. Nobody, at that moment, was under arrest. There was no search warrant. The patient was unconscious and could not give consent. There was no allegation, at the time or since, that the driver had been in any way impaired at the time of the crash, providing no probable cause for a search. So, Wubbels tried to make clear to Payne, there would be no blood draw. The hospital’s policy on the matter was clear. And that, to all appearances, was when Payne snapped. He grabbed the nurse, pulled her hands behind her back, handcuffed her and dragged her out to a patrol car. For, it now seems clear, no reason at all. Wubbels was never charged with any crime and, after the matter came to light Thursday, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski and Police Chief Mike Brown issued profuse apologies to the nurse for what happened to her. The legalities of the situation are such that the mayor and the chief are unlikely to say anything more about the matter until the police internal affairs investigation and a parallel Civilian Review Board examination are finished. But, to the rest of us, serious questions remain and firm action is necessary. Unless the investigations turn up something that is not now apparent, it seems clear that Payne should already have lost his job, and that his certification to be a law enforcement officer should be permanently revoked. The fact that he was removed from the roll of officers who are allowed to take blood samples, but not placed on leave until the matter became public and a criminal investigation launched, can only serve to undermine public confidence in the whole department. Going forward, officials must make sure that police officers are fully trained in the law of searches and in the policies of the medical institutions they interact with. It was also troubling to see other law enforcement officers who were present at the time do nothing to intervene or to de-escalate the situation, as it was to hear that Payne was acting on instructions from a police supervisor. Is there anyone who doesn't think this guy was wrong? I have yet to see one single attempted defense of his actions. Did the general population of the USA just unanimously agree on something??

I was just thinking about that before I read your post. This incident occurred July 26th. Why is this even still under investigation? The video is pretty straight forward. The woman/her attorney got the video from the police. What is even left to uncover in an investigation?

Here another case of where the police had all the information in hand almost from the first moment that this happened!
They did nothing!!! it was only after the public reaction went to outrageous, did they the police do something!!
Police investigating police,, works every time!
If it wasn't for videos, this like millions of others never come to light!!

While I am here, I will ask how the police investigation of the woman shot in her PJ's coming along?
How many more months before the police announce that she caused her own death, their officers followed procedure!
Police investigating police works every time, We the public let them get away with it!!!
Yea the government will hand out millions, But the police did nothing wrong!

Personally, I hope she sues the police department, because having to defend an indefensible lawsuit is going to make them think twice about doing crap like this (or one can hope!).

The guy is still on active duty. Just not drawing blood. Pretty pathetic. Not anymore. Utah police reveal patient defended by ‘heroic’ nurse was an officerA Utah police department thanked the “heroic” nurse who informed law enforcement that it was against hospital policy to draw blood from an unconscious patient without a warrant. The department also revealed the patient was actually a reserve officer for their department. In a statement on Facebook, the Rigby Police Department identified the victim as William Gray, a reserve officer who was “severely injured” in a car accident during his truck-driving job. “The Rigby Police Department would like to thank the nurse involved and hospital staff for standing firm, and protecting Officer Gray’s rights as a patient and victim. Protecting the rights of others is truly a heroic act,” the department said. Utah police reveal patient defended by ‘heroic’ nurse was an officer

Yep, saw that.
I wonder if anyone catches the irony of a nurse needing to protect the rights of an officer from one of his own ilk? At the time though, I don't think that they knew...but that is a moot point.
