We had TD bank, they don't Actually they tackle on an extra $3 on top of the ATM fee. go buy something and get cash back with your debit card. I banked with KeyBank for 20 years . They would do the same thing with the fees and charges. I don't bank with them anymore I feel a bit insulted when a bank wants to charge me to get to my own money.
I switched to a credit union which had a great program. I then moved to another state and found a local bank with the aforementioned ATM fee reimbursement, and they pay 2.25% interest as long as I have one direct deposit (which I would anyway) and make 10 debit card purchase a month (which I would anyway).

I've had to call my mom from the ER before. Twice. That call sucks, but you should have made it. She always knows something is up when I start with, "Don't freak out..." I called my Mom at 650pm on Sunday night. "Mom, I need help." "What do you need?" "I need to go to Urgent Care. Can you come and either take me or watch the kids?" "Yes, I'll be there in 10 minutes." Arrived in about 5. My poor mother put the kids to bed, worked on laundry, played on her Kindle til it died and then found a book. We called a couple of times to update her ("Urgent Care is sending me to the ER." "ER is doing tests, we're looking at 2-4 hours IF I get to come home tonight.") I'm glad you're ok Carl. *-*-*-*- As for money, it's pretty much been covered. 1. I found it too tiring to go out. 2. I had free parental day care at first too. Then Dad had a stroke and we had to find a dcp and money to pay for it. Price out a few dcps and a month or so into savings. Yeah, your MIL lives with you and is going to provide it. But she may want to go visit relatives, take a break from everyone and everything, feel a need to go nurse a different family member. Life happens. 3. Your wife is going to be dealing with a crapton of hormonal changes once she's pregnant and after giving birth. Breastfeeding does something too.

Glad you are okay, Carl. Maybe this accident will convince you (finally) that you never really know what life brings and you have the ability to at least be prepared financially. You and your wife do make decent money, but you also like to spend it. All good until something like your accident happens. What if you had died? Or been unable to work for an extended period of time? How would the bills be paid in that event? I'm really not trying to be mean here--really. It's simply difficult to watch (or hear, as the case may be) you and your wife spend money on stupid stuff (designer purses)--all the while having humungous student loans, etc.
Atleast you are asking the question of where do we find the money once we have a baby. The answer is right in front of you: you have the $$ but are spending it on "stuff". Now that you have the house, the beautiful furniture, the right patio furniture, etc., just stop for a minute. Breathe. And start saving even more because as you've experienced, it can be gone in a heartbeat. Nobody (unless your Donald Trump) gets everything they want immediately.
Again, so happy you are back in good health. And I hope you take the advice given in the above posts and not do the usual three step Carl dance described in the one.

Well, I'd give him a hug first. Then I'd kill him. Sometimes parents (well, people in general) don't handle this stuff well. The "what-ifs, coulda beens, maybes" keep popping up and they go on imagining the worst, long after the incident has passed. It would be easy enough to remind Mama Carl that her baby boy is a tough cookie and tell her to get a grip; that he's fine. It's another thing for her to get to that point, I guess. When it comes to your kids, regardless of their age (or yours), you never stop worrying or caring. I used to think the same way Carl did. Heck, I had major surgery and did not tell my mom until after it was over. And she wasn't even the panicky, crying kind. It does work the opposite way too. My mom was going in for cancer surgery and I found out when I called home from London, during a research meeting. I was PISSED that she didn't bother to tell me, but 'she didn't want me to worry'. Believe me, my brain went through the same sort of coulda, woulda, shoulda's that a parent's do! My parents did this to me. I was taking finals while my mother was in the hospital and dad was LYING about her having already had kidney surgery (the kidney was infected and they had to put in a shunt and drain off the pus and get it cleared up with meds before they could operate) and tole me she was FINE AND RECOVERING AT HOME. I got home the day she got home from the hospital (I had re-arranged my finals anyway so I could get home early) and learned they'd been lying to me for 2.5 weeks. I was also Mom's primary caregiver so Dad could go back to work. So basically this has accomplished the fact I do not trust my parents when they say they are 'fine' or something is not a big deal. I just can't take what they say at face value, and it's a sticking point. I have no reasonable way of knowing that they are not lying to me again because they want to 'protect' me from whatever the hell it is. This damn foolishness repeated itself again and long story short, Mom could've been in a lot of trouble medically if I hadn't realized just how sick she was. TheHaitian, don't hide stuff from or lie to your Mom. It will just cause her to worry about the millions of *potential* things you are hiding from her to protect her. Take care of yourself and be safe

Very glad you are OK cawiau. Now I have the "Call Gebco" commercial in my head...
...:::"I feel a bit insulted when a bank wants to charge me to get to my own money.":::...
I always wondered whether operating ATMs was a good racket. Location as always is the key. Anyone with a good enough location is going to charge you to keep the machine there. But people do pay for convenience, or when they have no easier options.

They have you cornered, are you going to leave the strop club to go find a cheaper ATM or your bank ATM.

We have something like 800 people working here and vending machines and a caterer that only take cash. I'll bet they could make enough money off of $2 fees to fund the company picnic every year!

Well thats the thing though -- the strip club owner is unlikely to allow ME to put an ATM there. He/she is going to want to put his own! You'd have to either own the location already, or find someone who is willing to lease you the rights for a % of the profits worth giving up.
In other news: its been a few weeks since you started this thread. How much money did you find? How much of said findings made it to (and still resides in) savings?
