You could be a supportive sister and get him an emotional support ginea pig
Can I shave it's fur in a pattern that spells out "Get a job"?

I will be 40 in less than 3 weeks. Since I am not married I seem to be on the heels of a "different" type of mid-life crisis. For the past several months I have had this fantasy of taking about 4-6 months off work to travel around, sleep late, take classes for fun and perhaps even venture into cougar territory on some remote island in an effort to "get my groove back" . None of this will probably happen but it is a fun fantasy. I am taking adult ice skating lessons right now which I am enjoying a great deal. My instructor is a younger male who used to play minor league hockey. He seems to have taken a liking to me so maybe the cougar part will work out Please do all of this and keep me posted - especially the cougar/puma part. I haven't been able to figure out what I want to do for my own highly anticipated mid-life crisis, so I'd like to live vicariously through yours.

I didn't consider it a mid-life crisis, but when I was 40 I quit my job, rented out my house, moved across the country and married a 28 year old. It's been pretty fun so far so if you are still working on your plan its something to consider.

Glad you're enjoying it! And according to the rule I read earlier with ages of 40 and 28, you missed being creepy by one year. Hooray!

BIL is a super nice guy and apparently incapable of getting angry and fighting for anything. SIL is dictating all terms of the separation. We've all suggested lawyers but he won't get one. It could be that not only is he in terrible shock, his heart is badly broken. Take him by the hand, and lead him to a super fierce divorce attorney. A friend of mine had a wife pull this stuff trying to blackmail him into building her a mansion they could not afford. His sister got him to file first. His attorney was an Iron Lady, and the judge had a field day with the lying ex-wife.

"but why do women go with guys who are 20+ years older than they are?" I think the answer depends on what age they actually are. A 40 year old with a 60 year old is not as bad as a 20 year old with a 40 year old. As we all know men mature a lot later than women do. Having said that I have dated guys as young as 5-6 years younger than me. I am not very mature Not all men mature later. Some of us seem to be born grown. I have always dated women my age. I don't want a mother figure, and I do not want to have to raise my wife.

I think I am having one right now! I just realized earlier this week that DH and I have been together for 20 years! I've spent just about 1/2 of my life with this guy! I've been examining the good times and the bad ones and figuring out what needs to be tweaked to keep me in it for another 20 years. I guess I need to buy a convertible or get a tattoo or something to go along with the introspection, huh?

My nephew is 21, living with his parents, taking one class, and recently quit his stock-boy job. I told my husband that I'm not as strict with when the kids need to move out as some, but no way would I be okay with that scenario. His brother has always had a job, most of them quite physical (he was in the trades for a long time.) He thinks he brother wants to "let his son be a kid."
I said that if our kids wanted to live with us for a year so they could save up a butt-pile of money so they could travel the world, or start a business, or buy a house - I'm fine with it. But if they just want to play video games, and go out drinking every night with friends, no way.

Most people who do local theatre have regular full time jobs outside the theatre. As a professional told us in drama class if you want to be a full time actor be prepared to live out of your suitcase and make peanuts. I think "finding yourself" in that case Almost and my brother's is code for: "I am a lazy ass who expects life to hand me everything" Don't dare say that to my mom's face though, I'd cause WWIV. I did say it to my brother's face though which is what caused WWIII in our family. Now I just keep my mouth shut and made sure it's clear ot DH that if my brother shows up on our doorstep he's being kicked off our porch. I'm not going to take over being his parent. Ugh. the phrase "finding yourself" fills me with anger. If anyone ever said "finding myself" or "making love" to me I would want to punch that stupid hippy in the throat after I threw up in my mouth a little.

Oh, that's right. He's a pork inspector now? Something like that. What kind of salary hit are we talking for him to open a jazz club/skate park/cigar shop? Was he ever an employee at a screen printing place or am I mixing him up with somebody else entirely? Df is the GM of a screen print shop, but he makes a bit more than peanuts. :-)

Alright got it all straight now.
Your DF (wait DF... you guys aren't married?) manages a screen print shop and is happy there. Drama's DH is a meat inspector but wants to quit and open a jazz club/skate shop/scrapbooking store.

Actually he wants to advance, which I 100% support. I roll my ideas at the wild ideas he gets during a mid life crisis. |
