I watched something recently about the Gerson work and one of the things they talked a lot about was mercury in dental work. It was pretty amazing to watch the fumes that come off when you chew. They are also very detectible in other people around you. It was really interesting.
I think it is something environmental.

Didn't they prove that gay is genetic? And aren't we still debating that? People don't believe the truth. They only believe what they want to believe.

Or what anyone disproves. I don't take my medical advice from playboy centerfolds, even if they are wearing a naughty nurse costume.

They're too busy giving the money to vaccine studies to fund it Arch.

Well until someone can come up with absolute proof, one way or another, as to the cause, then we are all left to our theories, aren't we?
You know you cannot prove a negative, right?
The connection that mercury causes autism has been so very thoroughly studied and there has not been a shred of a positive connection.
Think about this, Lonewolf. Why are there still increasing number cases of autism since mercury has been pulled out of pediatric vaccines for years now? And mothers have been warned against eating excessive fish such that many avoid it altogether? If mercury was involved, don't you think that the number of autism cases would drop? It's not dropping, it's increasing.

Sorry. I really don't believe it was disproved 100%.
You can't disprove anything 100%, nor can you prove anything 100%.
However that being said there has been decades of research done every since Wakefield opened his fat mouth and there has been no study that can conclusively prove that vaccinations have anything to do with autism.
Considering there was one study done in 1985 that has long since been debunked that has linked the two together, the fact that people continue to still hold onto the idea boggles my mind.
Same with mercury.
I really understand the desire to find a cause so you can understand why, but just because someone found something doesn't mean that it is valid.
If I look hard enough I could probably create a study that says moms who use Crest toothpaste have higher rates of kids with autism.
Doesn't mean they really have anything whatsoever to do with each other.

And people wonder why I get so depressed at the state of science these days......
Is critical thinking no longer taught? Do people believe all that they read, regardless of the source? Is it one great big conspiracy to feed the general public bad information and hope that they chew and swallow.
This makes me sad.....so sad.

This is also part of why I find it so irresponsible that the media - any media - shows a political bias. If people will believe scientific advice from Jenny McCarthy (who, by the way, I do like, just wouldn't want scientific analysis from), they will believe whatever the newscaster tells them.

Maybe the body doesn't recognize it in a vaccine form, not having come through the normal channel of nose or eyes?
A virus/bacteria is a virus/bacteria it doesn't matter how it got in.
They get in in way more ways that just your nose/eyes. Like when you cut yourself, have sex, when you eat, when you drink etc.
A shot cuts out the middle man.

Don't forgot Suzanne Somers!
How do people take a person who suggests injecting stuff into the walls of your hoo ha to prevent aging seriously?
It boggles my brain that she has best selling medical advice books.

Every year when kids go back to school, leaves fall off trees, and when the kids leave school for the summer the leaves come back
I think school children emit a toxic gas that kills tree leaves.

I don't necessarily think there is an increase in Autism. Since the spectrum has been expanded more kids that wouldn't have qualified for that label now fall under the spectrum. And also, like someone said earlier, school systems are giving kids the label so that they can receive services.

But to me it just seems so logical that these two factors, increased vaccines and increase in autism, coming together in the years they did would make sense.
Lots of stuff can make sense when presented in the right way.
That is why when it comes to actual science we have a peer review system amd a method we must follow.
Wakefield's results could never be replicated. It was later found out he only used 8 kids in the study and just took the parents' word for it.
Not to mention he was being paid for his 'expert testimony" against vaccinations. He was also paid to prove that vaccinations cause autism preciesly to line his pockets and others involved in the lawsuit.
Just becasue something makes sense doesn't automatically mean the two are linked. There are people who argue teh holocaust never happened, big foot is real, 9/11 was a giant government conspiracy, aliens built the pyramids etc.
But that doesn't mean they are right.

I think that by injecting a vaccine carrying a virus, dead or alive, into the system of a baby, whose immune system has not fully developed, via a shot, is what is causing the problem.
Think about this a minute, Lonewolf.
A baby's immune system IS fully developed. The ONLY reason why most vaccines are not given to a newborn is because the mom's antibodies pass through the placenta and protect them. Those antibodies block any vaccine given at the time, which makes the vaccine ineffective.
By 2-3 months, the antibodies that mom has passed on through the placenta start to go away, which is why this is the prime opportunity to start immunization. You want the child covered against major diseases ASAP because they now have no defenses. Take a look at the death rate of a 6 month old infant to pertussis. It's high because unless they've been immunized, they have no defenses to it.
In fact, a child's immune system is far more robust than your's. It is waaaay more capable of responding to a vaccine than an adult. A child's immune system responds faster, with a higher titer. This has been shown over and over in immunology research. In fact, when we are looking for animals to vaccinate for antibodies to antigens, we choose young animals because they respond so much better.
Why do you think that the hygiene theory is so prevalent in the cause of allergies? If you have an immune system that is looking for something to respond to, if you don't give it something to work on, it's going to go rogue and respond inappropriately - like on self.

Correlation does not equal causation. I have said this over and over.
An example that someone posted was that the link that college students cause trees to die.
College students come to town in the fall and the trees all lose their leaves and look dead. When the college students leave, in the early spring, their leaves come back.
Therefore, college students kill trees.
Because 2 things are correlated, it does NOT mean that there is a causal relationship. The vaccine/autism relationship has been studied a LOT since Wakefield authored that paper (which turned out that he pulled the data out of his ass) and they can't find a SINGLE shred of a relationship.

A vaccine gets around that mechanism and maybe our body doesn't know how to handle it. I don't know, but it makes a lot of sense to me
No it doesn't. A forgein entity introduced into our body is a forgein entity introduced into our body. Our immune system reacts the same way no matter how it got in be it from wiping your eyes, an infected needle or a vaccination.
I really suggest you read up on immunology.
Like I said, anything can make sense if you think about it hard enough. Holocaust deniers sound very logical but when you stop to really THINK about what they are saying, it doesn't make one lick shit of sense.
Same with vaccinations causing autism. It does make sense, especially since most diagnosis are made around age 2 you've had most of your vaccinations already.
But when held up to actual scietinfic scrutiny the hypothesis falls apart and not a single legitimate study has EVER been able to replicate Wakefield's results.
It's been over 20 years since he did his study.
When is enough time going to pass that people finally believe the research staked up against him?
