I have been in bad shape because of my paperwork issues. I'm having a lot of trouble functioning. I haven't managed to do the Christmas shopping I meant to do.
This morning I managed to put a bunch of stuff away in the kitchen, and take DD's and DS1's mail upstairs (it was sitting in neat piles on the stairs.) I found some towels that needed washing in their bathroom so I'm washing those. I'd also like to wash some of their bedding before they arrive. (Today I did the guest room sheets (where DS1+DDIL sleep) and DD's room (where E+I sleep)).
Another week of work done.
PS I just asked my cleaner if she could do an extra hour before Christmas, and an extra hour after Christmas, to help me with all the bedding.

That's so kind of you Iggy aka IG . Finished my last classes of the semester at Job 2. Came home, marked a late paper and caught up on laundry. I still have meetings/professor-staff classes/marking left. I can't finish my marking before Christmas because we get the exams on 21 Dec and my kids arrive that evening. Oh well.

I just ordered the snowshoes and a carrier bag. She has until 5 Jan to return/exchange them if she chooses to. I agree about the poles but we keep our gifts in the same price range for our 4 kids and their partners, so I didn't order the poles. Plus DD just bought an apartment and we're giving her money towards a couch. Thanks very much to all of you! PS Artemis Windsong it's a small city, but it's a city ... they clear the roads. They're used to getting snow.

I need to think on my what to get my uncle. I don't want more junk to clutter up my grandma's house but this will be his first Christmas without his wife of 49 years. wvugurl26 , DH's very elderly aunt loves her digital photo thingie that shows her grands and her (late) DH. Plus sometimes her kids switch up the photos.

DH: a Le Creuset teapot (his request) DS1: either sneakers or eau de toilette, not sure yet DDIL: pearl earrings and a Slanket DGD (5): age-appropriate science kit + wind chimes (he loves ours!) DGD: doll + "Russian doll" animals (no plastic) DS2: dunno yet DS3: baking beans + dunno yet A (DS3's partner): gloves, candle, book DD: snowshoes + carrier bag DN (my niece): Chanel lipstick DGN (her daughter): Chanel lipstick DGN (her son): Swiss Army knife DS2 is extremely difficult to buy for. DS3 is not difficult to buy for. DS1's family sends a "wish list" which is a HUGE help, and greatly appreciated!!! And DS3 sent a list for A. I also love gifting massages to nice places ... people always appreciate them but rarely buy them for themselves.

It just refused to do the back up ... To be honest I don't know why. It was 8 years old but that shouldn't explain it.
I tried 3 times since March 22 (the latest back-up before today's). After the third time it didn't work DH ordered me a hard drive.

Yes billisonboard my friend said to get DD snowshoes with a heel lift. I DO understand your concerns, and frankly I'd prefer to talk to DD about them. But DH much prefers surprise gifts, and I know that if DD doesn't like/want them, she can find a ton of other items at that store. Last Christmas she asked for a good sleeping bag and a camping stove.. The previous birthday she asked for a tent. So I think she'll be happy with the snowshoes. Like jerseygirl mentioned, it's not necessarily something she'd think of. And if not, like I said, she can always return or exchange them. My friend (who again, is from the city DD lives in now) specifically said, you can't buy somebody ski boots, but you CAN buy them snowshoes. I'm willing to make an educated guess. I'm pretty much decided now, but purposely holding off because DD would have 30 days to return or exchange them, so I'm waiting to get a bit closer to Christmas before I actually purchase them. PS Given DD's weight, we have three options: kiddie snowshoes, that's a hard no. For the two adult pairs, one is in stock, the other isn't (although there are a few pairs that I could chase down). So it's between those two.

I backed up my computer today for the first time in 9 months. My previous disk stopped working, so DH ordered a new one. It took 9 hours but it worked, which is a relief. Then we went to dinner and a concert with friends (the ones we celebrate Thanksgiving with). DH loves going out, and he's much more social than I am. I just want to hibernate in winter. But I try to make an effort when I'm working less. Nobody wanted to go out in the dead of winter, but it was phenomenal! Sharon if you don't mind answering, did your DD have a boy or a girl? Again, congratulations! laterbloomer you're allowed to change track here! I seem to remember you have a young man staying with you too. You've gotten a lot done these past two years! Catching up on laundry and seeing A tomorrow.

A friend has been advising me ... the "starter" range is pretty clear-cut, and based on size and weight. DD is very small so that eliminates most of the choices in our budget. If we do get them, I'll get them from a national sporting goods chain where DD can exchange or return them. I may still ask her about it ... I would rather, but DH likes gifts to be a surprise. So we'll see. Yes Finnime DD loves hiking and outdoor sports ... that's why my friend (who is from there) suggested getting them for her. Thanks everyone!

I have a very stupid question about snowshoes ...
Do people wear them just to hike in the snow for fun/exercise? Or are they also useful in getting from Point A to Point B in everyday life in a snowy climate?
DD moved to the Alps last year and a friend suggested we get her a pair for Christmas. I'm trying to figure out what she'd use them for, and how often.
Thanks!

By the way I can't be bothered to go to book club next week, so I told A I'd stop by this weekend. I was curious how long it has been since the last time I went to her house. I had to root around in my old posts to find out.
Turns out our "spat" was very early Sept, so it will have been 3 months since I went there. (I HAVE seen her elsewhere, ie at book club and a local festival.) And we still phone each other once or twice a week.
I'll still be forcing myself to go but I'm willing to force myself ... every 2 or 3 months.

I finally came up with affordable ideas for Christmas gifts for my niece, grandniece and grandnephew.
I'll probably go into school early on Monday and go to that mall. It'll be much less crowded than going to my local mall on a Saturday.

Debthaven: 2 Dec 2022 17,500 euros (Goal 17,000 euros)
I will probably spend some of this on Christmas gifts. DH and I don't go crazy but we have a lot of people to buy for (4 kids, 2 spouses/partners, 2 grandkids), each other. Plus my niece and her two kids will be here this year. So 12 ppl this year!
We promised to buy DD a couch for her new apartment. The one she wants is very expensive, so we'll just give her some money towards it.

This weekend- mark 26 final reports
Unfortunately my final exam is in late Dec. I don't blame you for not wanting to go TheOtherMe . My niece and her ex used to take my sister on vacation with them so my sister could babysit, but they always paid for her. PS Just one week of regular classes left, and 2.2 weeks till Christmas break. I have a light schedule next week.

I'm so so sorry to hear about your mom and her dogs startsmart ... such terrible timing for her! I hope her treatment goes well. TheOtherMe is it possible they just assume they'll be covering the cost of your stay? Because expecting you to pay your way to babysit is unreasonable. One more Zoom class tomorrow am, then another week done. I'll finish the marking tomorrow. Laundry finally all caught up. This weekend- mark 8 26 reports ( Wed/Thu)

Firebird I am very sorry to read this. I think Pink Cashmere raised a great point. Here too, you would be at fault for having abandoned the marital home. The niece you raised for 5 years, who just moved out, and who isn't talking to either of you now ... I'm sure all that was very traumatic. So I can't help but wonder ... might the separation be due to or exacerbated by the situation with your niece? If that's the case, is it wise for you and your DH to make any decisions right now? All the best to you.

To me it isn't meal planning anymore. It used to be when the kids were at home.
Now the inspiration strikes rarely. But when it does, I still cook for 6 or 8 like I used to. But instead of leaving the leftovers in the fridge, I freeze half for a "rainy day" LOL.

I don't much like eating leftovers beyond the next meal, but I HATE wasting food.
So when I cook (less often now) I still cook for 6-8. But then I automatically freeze half!
When I pull it out of the freezer a week or two or three later, it's not leftovers anymore LOL!
