I will jump right in with NWLNF again. The announcement they were supposed to make last Monday regarding their partnership with Tata Steel was postponed until this coming Monday. Now, I just hope that a) it is good, and b) that they make it after the opening bell...... A report says that, according to India's Energy Minister, "India is going to pursue Canadian Mining interests in an effort to keep pace with China............India spent 4 Billion dollars last year and are looking to increase that to 15 Billion this year." New Millennium Capital has huge deposits of iron ore, which should make it very attractive.

SBS long
I bought some of this today when it showed up on one of my better value screens. I like the business model of selling clean water and waste removal to people you've shoved into ghettos -- make them pay for what they used to have for free when they lived on the land. Now if we can only figure out a way to make the populace pay for air, then we'll really have a great business model!
Companhia de Saneamento Basico do Estado de Sao Paulo-SABESP is a mixed capital company, majority-owned by the State of Sao Paulo. Sabesp is a water and sewage services provider. As of July 30, 2010, Sabesp provided water and sewage services in 365 of the 645 municipalities in the State of Sao Paulo, serving 23.4 million people with water services, with a 100% of water coverage and 7.2 million water connections. It also provides sewage services to 19.7 million people and 5.6 million sewage connections. Sabesp also sells treated water on a wholesale basis to six municipalities with a total estimated population of 3.3 million people. Sabesp is allowed to operate outside the State of Sao Paulo and abroad, as well as to establish subsidiaries. It focuses on providing services, such as urban rainwater, drainage and management, urban cleaning and solid waste management, unrestricted operation of power generation, storage, conservation and energy activities. P/E 6.32 PEG 0.89 Price/Revenue 1.33 Price/Cash Flow 4.66 Price/Book (MRQ) 0.83 ROA 6.87% ROE 13.39% Current Ratio (MRQ) 1.09 Total Debt/Equity (MRQ) 0.66
Yield 8.27%
Because of the association of these initials with a certain slacker familiar to this forum, I suspect I'm going to have to give this filly the whip right out of the gate -- so the whip it will be, just enough to motivate properly and bring her across the finish line in first place (very difficult for a $50 stock), lathered and winded.

CNIT (China Information Technology), Long, because:
1. it came in second to the last winner CMFO on my screen; 2. I keep mumbling it when I look for films on MUBI.com ("seen it, seen it...") 3. Earnings call scheduled for next Tuesday.
No one said the reasons had to be sensible, right?

PauletteG, It is nice to see you have a sense of humor. The pick-of-the-week thread is a place to have fun and root for your pick.
Yclept, I'm not sure taking the whip to SBS will get the response you expect.

PauletteG ... you must have read the news from two days ago..... Below are the top five companies in the IT Consulting & Other Services industry as measured by the potential gains between the current stock price and the projected average analyst target (others dropped for this post) China Information Technology (NASDAQ:CNIT) has a potential upside of 127.7% based on a current price of $4.83 and an average consensus analyst price target of $11. If the news is good, you are going to give the top rung a run for their picks. Hope you do not encounter what happens to me often, fast jump to start and stumble the twenty yards or a fast fade in the stretch. May your fortune cookie break smoothly.

PauletteG......Gee, you gave your horse a dose of "High Power" Algae drink from CMFO? You will probably get a fast run and a pile of manure after the finish ;D By golly, think you may have found a winner... think I better lay some $$$ at these odds and hope we win by a couple of lengths. Placed day order to see if I can catch it at the open Monday... just do not leap from the gate, put the whip on the horse about 50 yards out and then let him run for the roses.

All you guys & girls, for your information, I'm sitting out this week's contest; and perhaps 1 or 2 more. due to my computer telling me I should be busy doing other things. The computers at the library will let me watch occasionally, however, I hope.

Short PBY (Pep Boys, Manny, Moe, and Jack - Auto Parts Stores)
This pick was strictly based on technicals. It just fell below trendline support last week and it also meets the 5 sma below the 15 below the 50 criteria that yclept tracks for some of the indexes. Most of the fundamentals don't look too bad but it does have a .65 DE and a 21.04 PFCF.

I'll go long on AGQ. It is a 2X Silver ETF and seems to go up like 3% a day. I'm still kicking myself for getting out of this back when it was 64 (I had gotten in at 54). I didn't need to quadruple my money or anything...

I am not sure how my pick NWLNF will open in the morning. I expected them to wait until tomorrow to announce, but they released the following this afternoon (Sunday): "New Millennium Capital Corp. Announces Binding Heads of Agreement With Tata Steel to Develop One of the World's Largest Undeveloped Magnetic Iron Ore Deposits" (Read more: www.digitaljournal.com/pr/239128#ixzz1Fr4gajAd) Could be a big bump up, then some profit-taking. I will stick with the pick, though; the news is good for the long haul.

LEI (Lucas Energy Co.) (long) Independent Energy company, based in Houston, Texas. I think I picked it sometime ago in an earlier contest; but not taking the time now to verify that statement. I've been watching it a long time; been in and out of it, too. Recent action amazing. So, I'm in this week.......and to quote one of our reserve pilots ..... after Miami Tower got him on the horn, after a long delay when he held the mike button down a long time briefing a formation on tower frequency....at Miami Int'l. Tower: "why didn't you cover all that in briefing?".. "Sir, things have changed since briefing...!! " so in my case......I'm here..........and I picked a symbol. We've kidded that pilot about that reply for many years....... rovo, it's going to be a good week. Thanks for your effort.

Due to recent actions I have undertaken I may end up as a banned member, however as long as I am still here - I will Submit -- SPXU (L) as my pick for this week. D.I. If you are referring to cease and desist, I think yo are very safe. More like a protector.

gaak. I was doing "Mod" stuff and failed to get my pick in before the bell. The existence of the boards is being attacked by a particular, disgruntled poster. A small person trying to impose their views on everyone else.
Anyway, I guess I'll be sitting in the stands this week watching the rest of you race along.

rovo - You just want a chance to whip me too. Speaking of which... is there another option out there for SI/IBB (just in case)? I would hate Proboards to suddenly disappear due to a couple of people and my not being able to read everyone's posts.

I would have picked TQQQ for another week and probably gone down in flames. Me sitting on the bench for a week doesn't do any harm. The rules are the rules.
