Stock Pick of the Week - W.E. 11 Mar. 2011

Looks like it was mostly a gloomy day for all but the shorts. Will tomorrow continue the downtrend or post a recovery?

At the tail of the pack, choking on everyone's dust! Just what I was afraid of-- a strong open followed by profit taking. How often do I have to be told -- buy on the rumor, sell on the news! Poor horsey will just have to learn her lesson.

I apologize as I'm not contributing much to the thread here - but is there any chance of you starting a "short of the week" thread? I ask simply because it will be more profitable - if the market continues on this friday/monday trend - and also because ToS doesn't charge commissions to buy back a short so they're cheaper for several of our users as well ;D.

Thanks so much for all you guys do, I learn a lot simply by researching the picks in this thread and use them occasionally for swing trades after my own due diligence is done.

You can pick your horse for the race as a SHORT or a LONG. Play it as you think the week will play out. Anyone can play the game either way. Doubt if Rovo has time to run two weekly games, but that of course, is entirely up to him. I see we do have a "short" player this week.

Good point ModE. I do realize that some of the picks are shorts and that you can short (nearly) anything. I guess the point I was making is there is a BIG difference between a short, and a good short If no one has time that's totally fine I'll just try to pick up on the shorts in here or possibly short any of the pics that I disagree with. Good grief, the market is actually up near noon. My horse in the green. Now, if can only hold on.

But, sadly, CNIT took a nose dive... did not really get out of the gate.

The worst part was last night before going to bed I thought "I should put a sell limit at $5.20, that way if it gets that high i'll make a decent profit" then "nah, it'll have a good earnings report so it should stay positive at least through mid day tomorrow so I'll have time to sell if anything goes wrong" .... whoops.

Looks like PauletteG is going to be holding up the crowd this week if CNIT continues to struggle out of the gate with all the other horses already at the first turn. I had to pick up some CNIT this afternoon and hope the horse recovers some ground later in the week.

Heading into the back straightaway we have clarkrl2 in the lead but things have tightened up considerably today.

She got off to a slow start yesterday, but not as bad as most of the field, so I showed SBS the whip today, and it got her attention, but not enough. Tomorrow, on the backstretch, I'll bring the whip down hard on the rump of this filly -- just once to really make her jump, then I'll show it to her again so she knows for sure there's more where that came from.

Never happen. I'm wearing Mexican spurs with those brutal long sharp spokes on the rowels -- gave her a kick in the slats with those as we entered the gate, and she's convinced she better be a well-behaved horse. There will be no problem keeping my seat.

Oh, I've got worse performers in the stable today than SBS! The only ones pulling very hard the right way are TSN and CEU, but they aren't able to offset all the ones that are just eating hay and grain without any apparent desire to run a lap or two. Most of them are only down a percent or so, but there's a whole lot of them doing that. I guess that's what happens when you don't use the whip often enough. They turn into lazy manure factories.
