Ahhh, Kohls. My mom has worked there for about 10 years now. She works one or two days a week just to get the discount there. THAT is dedication. It cracks me up. I bet every penny she makes goes right back into the store. She works customer service so she gets to go through all the things people bring back and gets some amazing deals because of it. People will hold onto stuff for a year and bring it back unused, unopened, still tagged, etc and because they accept everything back the stuff that is brought back is drastically reduced because it is no longer carried or out of season or whatnot. I've gotten many pairs of shoes from her because of this. I don't go there often but when I do I can purchase what I need, then my mom will take my reciept and get it adjusted with her discount and whatever coupons she might have laying around. They have "associate shop day" every once in a while where they get an even bigger discount. It is like Christmas around my parents house after those days.

If anyone here is a Rite Aid person I have a question.
In the 7/03 ad there is a $4.50 scr for the oral B tb and the crest 3d rinse. It says limit one. Is that total or each as in can I buy one toothbrush and one rinse and get the scr on both?
Also I tried to register on RA's website for the video values site but it wouldn't let me register it. I could, and did put in all my info but the register button wasn't able to be "clicked" on by my cursor. Any sugestions? Thanks!

RALEY'S/NOB HILL SHOPPERS: FREE BBQ SAUCE ALERTKC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce is on sale for $.89; use a $1/1 from the 5/15 SS to get it for free. Does anyone know if you get overage at Nob Hill/Raley's? If so, can the overage be used on ANYTHING or does it have to be absorbed by purchasing another bottle of KC BBQ sauce? I only cherry pick at Raley's and have absolutely no clue how this will go down, so I could use a little help here.

The new booklet is probably available on iheartriteaid or riteaid.com. HTH

I don't think this scenario is legitimate. Even if the Q from the Wags book is an MC, you wouldn't be able to use two MCs at RA. You can use more than one Q when it's an MC, a VV and an in-ad Q, but they won't let you stack 2 MCs. I think she's only talking about using one MC, but is warning that it is from the Wags beauty book, so, it may be YMMV whether Rite Aid will take it or not...even though it IS a MC, not a Wags IVC Q. She said the Softsoap is 2.99 with a 2 Up, and using the $1 Q makes it free, only one coupon mentioned from what I can tell... Yup, that is exactly the scenario...thanks Constanz!

Unfortunately, yes, you can only get the $4.50 SCR on one item of your choice. As DancinMama mentioned, the full SCR offers are on-line at riteaid.com and the the book is on iheartriteaid.com. I always check those places if I'm in doubt. Hmmm...not sure about the registering issue on the video value site. I just tested it right now. Did you fill in every single field? When I do that, I am able to click with the arrow on the "register" button.

Holy tearpad and blinkie heaven, everyone! I just got back from Safeway. I had gone just to pick up a few items. Well, there were new tearpads and blinkies everywhere! Maybe that is 1 good thing to come out of this Extreme Couponing show. Perhaps the manufacturers see how keen everyone is on couponing, so they're trying to compete with each other. Here's what I found: Dole Fruit Crisps - $1/2 Mariani Dried Fruit - $1/1 (I LOVE this brand of dried cherries..yum, yum!) Athenos Greek Yogurt B2G1 Free* Poise $1/1 Free Sugar wyb (2) Sure-Jell, MCP or Certo Pectin Save .75 wyb 1 pkg baking nuts & 1 16 oz Karo syrup Save .75 wyb (1) 2 lb or + flour & (2) strips or (1) jar Fleischmann's Yeast If anyone needs any of these, please let me know & I'll gladly pick a few up for you. * Munjoyhill - I had JUST come from the post office, where I had sent off an envelope to you. I will hang onto these & send 'em out soon to you. And in other news...I had gone to Wags earlier, and the cashier convinced me to buy the Samy (frizz control spray) that is .99 after RR. I'm all about the "free" these days with shampoo, conditioner, etc. But I have this massive curly/frizz-prone hair so he didn't have to twist my arm to get me to buy it. It promises to lock out humidity and protect against sun damage. All that in a small bottle

Hello, ladies! I am new to the Grocery Challenge. My main concern is that I won't be able to get healthy foods with coupons...it seems like most of them are for junk food or toiletries? Is that just a myth? I mainly shop at Trader Joe's because their all natural products are fairly inexpensive, but I would love to find all natural groceries for even less with coupons at other stores. In Richmond, VA we have a Kroger, Martin's, Target, and Wal-Mart. I'm not sure if Kroger doubles coupons in my area.
I also have 3 month old twins, so I would love any tips on saving on diapers and formula. I am signed up for Enfamil's program so they send me manufacturer's checks every now and then, but with two babies I would love to save more. Pampers and Huggies send me coupons, too, but it's still cheaper to just get the Target brand. Any advice?

Ah, yes; the topic of coupons and healthy foods. It is true that coupons for healthy foods are more rare than those for junk food, but they are out there and can be found. Another way around it is to call the manufacturers of the products that you use regularly and request coupons directly. It might be more helpful if you told us what you DO BUY in terms of foods and some of the gals might be able to chime in and help you. Most of the gals who have been into primarily organic and natural foods have focused their attention on savings as much as possible using what they have to work with in terms of coupons, but have also focused a lot of attention on saving on all other items that they buy regularly for their families including, yes, toiletries, paper products, baby products, pet products, laundry and household cleaners, etc. If nothing else, meal planning based on the weekly grocery ads helps A LOT. If peaches are on sale in a particular week, that's one of the fruits you buy that week. I broccoli is not on sale, you hold off making dishes that require broccoli that week unless you bought it on sale, blanched it, and put some away in your freezer. When an item goes on sale at a rock bottom price that you use regularly (i.e. possibly whole wheat pasta), you buy 1/2 a dozen boxes so that you use it at the lowest possible price. HTH

Maryjane: Besides collecting coupons from the Sunday papers, there are some decent coupons off some interntet sites like coupons.com. Last month I got a $1.25 internet coupon off 2 Dole pineapples. Kroger had them on sale for $1.00 a piece so I got two for a total of $.75 and did the deal twice. Also, several weeks ago I bought Cascadian Farms cereal and on the box was a $1.50 produce coupon for Walmart. I pricematched sale produce from other stores and scored some great produce deals!

You may find the document I'm attaching to this helpful - it's how to make and use a Price Book. This can be really helpful in monitoring prices of items - particularly items that don't have coupons readily available for them.

Thanks for the welcome, ladies! Leanna- I downloaded that document and will sit down to read it right now! Well, after I finish typing this, heh.
Dancinmama- Let's see, I buy a lot of whole wheat pasta, pasta sauce, organic milk and butter, hormone-free cheeses, free range chicken and eggs. Salmon, not a lot of red meat unless I'm making chili...Tom's toothpaste, Burt's Bees skin care...I'm allergic to SLS, so I have to buy sulfate-free shampoo which is a pain in the behind. I tend to buy fresh produce instead of frozen or canned...I have looked into canning but with the twins I sort of lost track of that idea. I'm not adverse to canned foods, but I find that frozen vegetables taste funny? Might just be me. Anyway, all this stuff is pretty cheap at Trader Joe's (except the skin care, which they don't sell) but if it's possible to get it cheaper elsewhere I would love that! And any deals on Enfamil or diapers would be SUPER helpful. Cat products, too, since we have a kitty. You're right about the meal planning, I haven't really done that.
I did e-mail Burts Bees, 7th Generation, Pampers and Enfamil and asked for coupons. With Pampers and Enfamil I hear they will send you more coupons if you mention that you have twins, so I did that. Hopefully something will come of it.

Pampers and Huggies send me coupons, too, but it's still cheaper to just get the Target brand. Any advice? Hi Mary Jane!! I too eat healthy foods and I actually find that it's very easy to get healthy stuff at a great price by combining sales and coupons. Some stuff I've gotten very cheap or free since I've been using coupons: whole wheat pasta natural sandwich meat Smithfield and Hormel fresh pork brown rice frozen veggies yogurt driscoll's organic berries (there ARE produce coupons if you look for them) cuties clementines dried fruit organic applesauce organic and/or whole grain cereal (Kashi) Quaker oats canned tomatoes whole wheat flour natural peanut butter organic preserves various spices and seasoning blends condiments and salad dressings Seventh Generation dish soap and cleaners aluminum foil paper plates/cups/plastic cutlery napkins/paper towels/tp I also shop at TJ's for all natural sausage, whole wheat pizza dough and lots of other things because they do have some great prices on several items. These are just a few things! I've also gotten natural (no nitrites, nitrates) hot dogs and Annie's organic mac n cheese very cheaply, which I know isn't "healthy" but I do have a 3 year old! For diapers and formula, the ladies here are great at finding diaper deals and contacting the companies is a great way to get coupons for formula and diapers. When DD was a baby, I used Target brand formula (half the price of the name brand) and it was great. Formula is tightly regulated and store brands have to have the same ingredients at the same concentration as the name brand.

MaryJane:
I have a Burts Bees $1 off lotion (exc trial/travel) Target Q. I also have a number of Pampers mq's. If you would like those q's, just PM me with your address, and I'll get those out in the mail to you.
I'm sure other things will come available...I have 7th generation & Kashi coupons that ALL expire 6/30 so no sense in my sending you those - darn...but hopefully more will come out soon!

Nickyleey: Uh that's an AWESOME list! So did you find those coupons just in the newspaper on Sundays, or websites? Or did you contact the manufacturers? We tried the Target formula, but for some reason it made the boys really constipated (sorry if TMI)...I don't get it, since it's the EXACT same ingredients. Maybe it was just a fluke thing and I should try it again... Leanna- You have a PM ;D Or you should if I did this right... Thanks again for the help, ladies. We have a lot of medical bills since my husband lost his job and insurance in my 6th month of pregnancy. That combined with my student loans has caused us to take a real look at our finances. I joined the WIRR and also have some savings goals. I know that our food choices are more expensive than some people, so I would love to cut that back to help with the other goals. I saw a few episodes of Extreme Couponing, and while I would never go to that extreme (or eat some of the things those people eat...200 bars of Snickers? Eesh... ) I was inspired by the idea of pairing coupons with sales on items I'm already buying. Now I just have to go find those coupons! I don't get a Sunday paper...if I buy one at a gas station or wherever do they include the coupon inserts?

PM'd you back MaryJane. Is anyone else sad to say goodbye to the P&G Everyday Savings booklet? I just put my 2 booklets in my recycling box...such a sad day. What the heck am I going to do about Tide? Those were the last of my $1 mq's. All I've got now is .35 q's and I only see maybe a .50 q coming up this Sunday. I have plenty of Tide at the moment, so I hope better q's come along.

Leanna, maybe email them.
Today, I emailed, Gatorade, Dixe, Angel Soft, Blue Diamond Almond Milk, Rid x and Nature's Own Bread. Nature's Own did email me back saying they have no coupons for their bread. That if they do, it will be on coupons.com.

This is one of my biggest problems is buying produce and it going bad because we never got around to eating it. Also, I know you aren't there yet, check out from the library or google making your own baby food. It was really easy and you know what your kiddos are eating and it will save a bundle. For coupons, ask around and see if anyone you know aren't using theirs or will give you the ones they aren't using (I get several like this). You may not get every coupon as they took what they needed, but the price it right...free! PM me if you would like the Tom's toothpaste coupons.

I forgot all about it this morning. I had FIVE of those booklets. Three from sending in for them via mail and two from Facebook. My absolute fav coupon was the $3/1 Swiffer product Q. I am pretty sure that it was intended to be used on the kits, but it wasn't specific, so I called P&G and asked if it could be used on the refills and they said, "YES"!! I was doing the . I used each and every one of those suckers to stockpile Swiffer products which were free after sale and EBs. I also used each and every one of the $1/1 Gain coupons and are now using that as hand soap. I know that there were other random Qs that I used out of those booklets, but I did for sure get $60 out of those suckers and getting the booklets didn't cost me a dime. Okay, okay...three stamps.

Too funny that you were writing a Eulogy. I used the Tide, Gain dish soap, Secret deod, Crest TP, Oral B TB and gave my Pampers away to someone. I'm sure I used other q's from there as well.
We've been using the Gain dish soap to wash our cars.
Oh yeah - and I just used the Pringles coupons on Sunday at Wags!

Occasionally we have gotten Muir Glen coupons and I am sure other coupons for items that you would buy. Just keep your eyes peeled on the Sunday coupon inserts and when a coupon comes out for a product that you would use (including toiletries), post a HOUND ALERT here for that coupon and we'll all pitch in to help you out as much as we can. In the meantime, I KNOW that if you do the best you can embrace the weekly grocery ads like you would a best friend, you will find A LOT of savings in just doing that in addition to combining sales, coupons, and store promotions for those items that are not ingested: laundry products, paper products, toothbrushes, Q-tips, feminine hygiene products, etc. It will be a tougher road to hoe for you, but it is not futile - there is still money to be saved. Let us know if there is anything that we can do to help you further.

I've written a couple of coupon eulogies over the years. The best was probably after the demise of the ESR program at WAGs. Truly, that was a very sad day, especially for me, because it pretty much ended my "reign" as the WAGs dancin' queen. I used to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to post WAGs scenarios that most everyone could copy (if they had gotten the Qs) that helped them get everything for free at WAGs. The end of the ESR program meant way too much OOP to make a lot of the WAGs deals worth it to me, so I stopped doing WAGs to the "extreme" that I had done so before.

Maryjane, I know you can go to the moneysavingmom.com website for some natural deals. At the top of the page, she has a tab that says 'deals and steals' and it drops down to show natural and organic deals. Driscolls had something going for awhile where they emailed you a link to print coupons for 50 cents off a package of berries.

Postin here & July.
Dancin When my coffee pot died I did a BUNCH of comparison shopping-I have a LOT of stores (Target, Walmart, CVS, WAG……) very near each other. I found that Walmart had the best $ by FAR even though I hate shopping there because of horrible parking, overcrowding in aisles (stuff & customers), dumb cashiers and even dumber CSRs & mgmt.
Sharona My aunt worked at the old Marshal Fields for many years after retirement just for the discount.
Maryjane There were recently insert and online coupons for Ronzini whole wheat pasta in addition to the produce ones mentioned. Also soy & almond milk. Moneysavingmom posts organic coupons/cheapies once a week-Thur I think.

I don't get a Sunday paper...if I buy one at a gas station or wherever do they include the coupon inserts? Hi MaryJane - I get all my Q's from Sunday paper and the internet. I can honestly say I've never contacted a manufacturer! It is a good way to get Q's though. Ladies here do it all the time. One occasional poster, Jenny's mom (aka jmo), is also a natural foods hound and she's an expert at sweet talking companies into sending her coupons. Walgreens (WAGs) sells the Sunday paper at a good discount and I usually get 2 a week or more if the selection of coupons is good. Dollar Tree also sells cheap papers, but I have a hard time finding papers that are not torn to shreds and the coupons are gone. Do you have a Harris Teeter near you? I'm in Raleigh NC so I figured there may be some in Richmond. They are usually very high priced, but their sales and Super Double and Triples coupon events are where I get most of my food stockpile, as I can get many quality items for free or very cheap. Here are some blogs you can follow for the stores around you: www.southernsavers.com (my favorite - you can make shopping lists with coupon matchups on this site) www.hip2save.comwww.swaggrabber.comwww.moneysavingmom.com (she also tries to feed her family natural foods and share recipes and meal plans, as well as lots of money saving ideas) www.frugalsuz.blogspot.com/ (our very own frugalsuz does a wonderful job of highlighting the best of the upcoming drugstore deals every week) Go to the first page of this thread and you can get the grocery hound handbook and I'm sure the other ladies here can help you too. I think you'll find that with some time, effort, and patience, you'll start saving alot of money without having to sacrifice the quality of food you feed your family. Start slowly and ask questions!

Mary Jane - Oh and about the formula: DD also had constipation issues when she was about 3 month old or so and she was on a different formula (Enfamil AR - she had terrible reflux) for 50% of her intake and the other 50% was pumped breastmilk. When her reflux went away around 6 months, we took her off the AR and switched to the Target brand and nothing really changed in the poop department. The dr said it was fine to give her a little bit of apple or prune juice each day to keep things moving and that helped alot. So, long story short, maybe you can try the Target brand in a few months, when they can increase the variety in their diet. Also feeding them baby food like prunes, veggies, peaches, etc will help tremendously, when it's time.
For diapers, you can combine Q's with store sales/reward programs to get them cheap or free. Amazon also has a great program called amazon mom that saves you 30% and gives you free shipping. See the moneysavingmom, swaggrabber, and hip2save sites for amazon diaper and wipes deals they post from time to time. But you're doing the right thing buying Target brand diapers, b/c they are good quality and the price is comparable (or maybe just a little bit more) to most deals that I find (except the free ones, of course!).
