I've got a sulky, overtired, frustrated 10 year old. Thank God there's ninja camp today and he can burn some of that frustration off.

My 10 year old has been really pleasant. I actually have Ex 2.0 to thank for that I think. He's been taking him boating and biking and hiking a lot these past few weeks.

I'm a ball of anxiety right now. Today my nephews mom has family court to face the charges against her, she seems to think that the judge will return the children to her. All the kids have said to the police and social workers that mom hit them, they all said she uses drugs but I'm still scared that a judge will feel bad for her and send them home.
The worst part is that court won't be until after four and I won't know the outcome until after six, how am I gonna survive this wait?

Poptart I'm sorry you are under so much stress. Can you talk to your sister and help make her see that having the children returned to her is not the best thing?

If they do I would talk to them they deal with these situations all the time and should have some advice for you on how to manage. That or put a call into your nephew's therapist for an emergency session if s/he is seeing you too as a part of this.

Happy Birthday, Gwen. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/cake.gif) I bet you hear this all the time, but I remember when you were born. Yup. Sure do!

So she's my step-sister and she's no longer talking to any of us. She got copies of the reports from CPS and knows that I was the one that called in a report in January that she was still seeing her crackhead boyfriend, she was supposed to stay away from him because he beat her up when she was 8 months pregnant.
She refuses to take responsibility, nothing is ever her fault and she denies that she ever hit the kids, even though I personally took one of the kids to the hospital and was in the room when the exam was done, this kid had bruises from head to toe. The fact that she refuses to admit that she hits them will probably work in our favor because how can she correct her behavior if she continues to deny any wrong doing?

That really sucks both for you and the kids. I'm so sorry and I really hope the court doesn't return the children.
On a side note, I do wonder why people who hurt their children want to get them back. They clearly don't enjoy having them around.

I am guessing control or they are delusional enough to think that what they are doing is "good parenting".

I wouldn't think they'd just turn the kids back over without her having to jump through a bunch of hoops. Especially if the judge knew they were somewhere safe for the time being. But, I guess crazy things like that happen.

Having actually practiced this kind of law, once the kids are removed and she hasn't done any services, it's HIGHLY unlikely she will get the children back right now.

I think Drama got it right when she says it's about control. She knew she was abusing the children, that's why she manipulated them into not saying anything to us about the abuse, she kept telling them they would never see us again and went as far as to tell the older kids that their paternal grandparents had died.
I don't know how many of you guys have heard about a little boy named Gabriel Hernandez- he was tortured and killed by his mother and step-father, I honestly believe that that's where my kids were headed, because some of the things she did crossed the line from abuse into torture, but CPS still believes she's just a young mother overwhelmed by her responsibilities.

*Update*
Just heard back from the court, the children will remain removed from mom for now, next court date is at the end of January.

It was so sad every time I saw that story came on the local news - that poor sweet kid.

You have to be so relieved! I’m glad the court made a sensible decision.

In a sign of the times, I felt like I hit the jackpot this morning when Sam’s Club had the disinfectant wipes for purchase - now I have some to send to school, assuming it’ll still be in person!

Poor Abby. She painted a picture for my dad to celebrate the resturant being open for a year. She really took her time and did a good job. She presents it to me and .. the plastic is still on the canvas. She forgot to unwrap it. I told her that's okay we'll leave it alone, let the paint dry and just never take off the plastic. Problem solved. I'll have to let my parents know so they don't unwittingly destroy it.

Put a piece of glass or plexi over it and frame it and it will be fine.

On a side note, I do wonder why people who hurt their children want to get them back. They clearly don't enjoy having them around. If they are on any type of assistance, they get more money for the children. That's the motivation I've seen personally.

What wvugurl said... also in many cases they need the children to provide for them emotionally, as both a crutch and a punching bag, alternately, in many cases.

I do not have kids in school. However as a parent, are you going to cyber school, home school or just see what is happening with your local public school?

Yea local school district already announced distance learning when school starts back in the fall. In a couple of weeks, they are going to release more about.

There is a library position open at one of the local districts and I thought about applying for a hot minute because those just come up so infrequently, but then I looked and it sounds like they plan to be back in person 5 days a week and I'm like, nah... I'm good.
