The kids were playing outside with neighbors and it's dark at 5pm now which sucks. C was headed back up the ladder to the neighbors tree house when one of the construction workers ran toward him yelling something stupid like ugga bugga. Scared the shit out of C. Dh was going to get the kids and heard it and went to get him. The guy apologized and dh said he seemed to really feel bad, but I'm livid. He said he was goofing around but didn't mean to scare them. Seriously go fuck yourself dude and your complete lack of judgment assuming your not a colossal db. I'm skipping at least 1 and probably both classes tonight to sit with C. I remember how scared I was when a guy stopped his car by me walking home from school. He raced off when I started running but I would only ride my bike to school after that. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

I'd probably call the construction company and complain. I might call the police to just to file a report.

My 8 yo wanted coffee this morning, so I gave him some. That was a first, though he's tried sips before.

He insisted he liked it and his Dad gave it to him all the time. I argued with him about it saying I didn't think it was great for him to be drinking that, which only made him want it more. Finally, I said screw it and let him get a cup, but I don't think he really drank any. I'm guessing his Dad gave him stuff that was heavily flavor creamed up and I gave him black.

Oh, yeah, my FIL calls our coffee, "candy coffee". We mix vanilla and chocolate flavored coffee grounds, and sweeten it with Vanilla caramel coffeemate and a little extra sugar. I didn't make it that sweet this morning, however. Anyway, I figure I drank tea nearly every morning growing up, how bad can an occasional diluted coffee be for him? (I also wonder how much taller I might have been. *sigh* )

I'm going to let the neighbors who are having the work done on their house know. Best case scenario this guy is an idiot who made a really bad decision. I can't think of anyone who would think its okay to try to scare a group of kids on a random night, when it's fairly dark outside, especially when 1 kid is significantly separated from the group (I can't know if it was directed at C, but he was the only one on the ground when the guy came running), so the chances that this guy is a creeper can't be completely dismissed. My neighbors have kids and I would want to know if someone working on my house did something like that.

For the "back in my day" moment...my mom was spoon fed coffee starting at 2 weeks. I'm sure she offered it to us too, but I don't know how young for how long. Sis and I both hate coffee.
I'm pretty sure the smoking while pregnant had a bigger impact on my size--and I was well under 5 pounds at birth but I've certainly made up for it since then. My kids were so big I said I'd have to take up smoking if I wanted a 3rd.

That's what I used to say, and I was going to live in the flight path of an airport since that too supposedly would result in smaller kids . Must have scared the potential little one out of being since I never got pregnant again

I had little babies. Thank God. I'm too small of a person to have delivered big ones.

I just don't like Carrot drinking it because he's anxious and wired enough as it is. Caffeine can't help that.

Unless he's got ADHD - isn't that the deal, stimulants calm down ADHD people? (I know this is a very broad and probably wrong statement.)

My BIL got a call from the medical examiner today, and the official cause of death for my sister is the same as it was for dad - pulmonary embolism. I can't imagine how awful it must have been for him to get that call. He was working at the time. I have an appointment with a hematologist on Monday and we'll see what she thinks I should do. Honestly, I feel screwed. I want to eat some chocolate and wallow.

Oh dear, hugs Nuttin. Can your doctor recommend anyone for you to talk to about this? I can't imagine. It's not much but us internet strangers are here for you.

He sounds like an adult version of some of my students.

There must be something by now that you can do or take that lowers your risk.

raeoflyte that is indeed just totally unacceptable. I would definitely tell the neighbors but personally I would file a police report as well. I know it's a PITA but it would probably help your son to be proactive. Sounds like the guy probably isn't all that stable and he probably shouldn't be working in such close proximity to kids, and people need to know that (ie his employer). minnesotapaintlady take this advice for what you paid for it, but it sounds like if you want coffee to be less attractive to Carrot, you need to make it less attractive. So less sugar, cream, additives, whatever. You basically need to tell him that "real men drink it black" and see if he still wants it. I absolutely can't speak to the effect of coffee or additives on learning or behavioral issues. But as someone who is overweight, I CAN speak to the problem of adding sugar to something you may end up drinking all day long when you get older.
DH is British, I'm American. We fit the clichés ... I drink coffee all day, DH drinks tea all day. DS3 veered towards tea, but DH REFUSED to let DS3 put sugar in his tea growing up. Now DS3 is 20 and like DH, he drinks tea all day long too ... without sugar. Any way you cut it, not adding sugar is much healthier (unless you drink ONE cup of tea or coffee a day, in which case it doesn't really matter).

He's on blood thinners and the doctors have put reasonable restrictions on him. I'm not trying to say this isn't awful, or doesn't suck. It does and I'm really really sorry. But there are things you can do.
