I got a call. Everything is good.
Drama - Roggie is about to start 2nd grade. He ate the same lunch every day for Kindergarten and every day for 1st grade. One of the best parts about summer is not to have to pack that every morning. The school district provides lunch free to everyone, but no, he won't even try it. Great news!

I have to figure out lunches and school starts oh...Friday. I never thought I'd be so behind.
E will eat a sandwich, snap peas, and pickle everyday. Make it herself and be happy. C we need 3-4 rotating options, and a sandwich no more than once a week. He's relatively easy to feed in person, harder for packed lunches.
School starts at 755 this year and everyone gets free breakfast which is super carb heavy. I told the kids that breakfast at home is going to be limited to eggs.

Both of the girls drink protein drinks for breakfast. ODD will eat some eggs, YDD a pancake. Neither are big eaters in the morning. They do come home and snack. During the summer the both grazed a fair amount. ODD will just get a few pieces of sliced turkey to eat or she will wrap it around a cheese stick, she doesn't like the bread.

These conversations about school lunches bring back memories. My daughters are both in their 30's now, so those days are just a blurry memory. LOL! I do recall that when mine got old enough to bitch about what I packed, I told them they would have to pack their own lunches. That put a stop to THAT problem. Now I'm the grandmother to 4 grandkids who are in school (kindy, 6th, 8th, and 10th) and I'm not in charge of anyone's lunch but my own. The 8th grader (the only grandson) is in a new school in a new town this year and my daughter tells me that lunch is $4 a day. I was kind of surprised it is that much. He is in a charter STEM school and I thought that they might go heavy on healthy, brain-stimulating foods or something but DD says it's just the same old crappy lunches that most schools serve. His sister is in another charter school with an emphasis on the classical arts but she prefers to take her lunch so I don't know what the lunch fee is. These 2 kiddos live in another state, so maybe that is the normal lunch price. The 10th grader and kindy girl live in the next county over from me but they both take their lunches so I have no clue what lunch costs there. Anyway, I'm curious--what is the lunch price for your child's school?

Which protein drinks do you get? That's something I'd like to have an option of if I can find one they like.

For the younger one at the Charter it's $2.90, for the older one at Private it's $3.65. That sounds steep, but they feed him a lot and he has several options, so probably the cheapest way to feed a teenage boy.

We get the carnation breakfast powder and add it to milk, it is with the breakfast foods. We will also heat up the milk and make hot coco with it in the winter. They will drink Boost too, but that is more expensive, although last year I did pretty well with CVS sales and coupons.

I want to say got lunch is $3.50-4. I don't remember exactly. My kid was in such a rut, eating peanut butter every day for a year and a half, that I tried to talk him into getting hot lunch once in a great while. They have a breakfast for lunch day once a week. He might have gotten it twice, tops. Then he switched to lunchables.

All this talk about co-sleeping, if I didn't know better, I'd think you all set me up for my 10 yo to climb over me into bed last night. She hasn't done that in at least 6 months. Probably has something to do with watching the Hobbit with DH to try out his new surround sound LOL.

Jealous! DS#1 will buy - lunch is $2.50 - worth every penny! DS#2 packs - however, he is transitioning to a new school and will have more time for lunch. I'm hoping he will switch to buying. $2.50 a day is completely worth it. School starts next 8/22.

Today is the 2 year anniversary of B's hospitalization. Will I spend the entire day poking this emotional bruise? YOU BET!
Also in the car last night we were talking about how not all kids are lucky enough to have the great families they deserve to have, and she goes "Oh like when I was in the hospital and you weren't there very much because you had to work!" Knife, meet heart. Twist.

I coslept with C, and he is 6, and mostly sleeps in his own bed. Twice this week he woke up in the middle of the night and crawled in bed with me, but he hadn’t done that in months, so not sure what woke him up. The last two nights have been back to normal with him sleeping in his bed all night.
M still cosleeps. We’ll probably transition her to a toddler bed in our room in the next month or so, and then eventually transition her to her own room, but that’s likely a bit down the road still.
My theory is as long as whatever you’re doing works for you/your kid(s)/your family, go you! Everyone and every family is so different, and different things work for different folks.

C started first grade yesterday. We usually pack lunch at least 4 days a week because he doesn’t eat pasta, or cheese (except a few foods like pizza or Mac & cheese). The only sandwich he will eat is PB bread, so he gets a ton of leftovers packed in a Thermos. Yesterday was leftover chicken enchilada soup and today is leftover pork chops and mashed potatoes, plus carrot sticks. We have to pack a snack every day, so packing a lunch usually isn’t too much more work.
School lunch is $2.65 for the elementary school kids, and $2.80 for the secondary school kids.

I never slept with the girls. They'd get in bed with me every once in a while if they had a bad dream or something. I cosleep with the twins all the time now.

Pants I'm so sorry. There are times when kids really know how to turn the knife. They also have the tendency to remember the 5% of times that you couldn't attend a school event but conveniently forget the 95% of times you showed up . I have no doubt that you were in the hospital as much as you could be without losing your job.

Just sitting there with the struggle to let her talk and say what she needs to say (per all the therapists' suggestions about how to help kids with serious illnesses recover in the long term) and ask gentle questions or offer support.
Meanwhile the logical part of my brain wants to set the record straight and provide all the objective facts about what really happened vs. what her 4-year-old brain took away from the situation. (Which I didn't do, because I'm the adult and so I just absorb it and it feels really shitty.)
It's the first time in a long time she wanted to talk about it. She also told me that when she gets sick she's afraid she's going to get SICK again. (Her G-B was preceded by a stomach bug.) Which makes sense and is totally understandable! Also makes me feel really a lot of feelings! Because I also get scared about that when she gets sick!

Knife, meet heart. Twist. That really must have hurt but please step back and I look at that comment again from a different angle. Based on how you were talking about luck and family, B was really telling you that she knows that you wanted to be with her all the time but just couldn't. Take it as a big declaration of love and just hug her.

Pants you are a great mom and use the logic to help you know. As she grows so will her ability to understand everything and her ability to express her self. And I think I would be freaked out some every time she got sick too.
Had ODD 504 meeting. It went well.
