This thread has been updated to reflect Harold Camping's new Rapture date of October 21, 2011. Please see Reply #256.Harold Camping lets out a hearty chuckle when he considers the people who believe the world will end in 2012. "That date has not one stitch of biblical authority," Camping says from the Oakland office where he runs Family Radio, an evangelical station that reaches listeners around the world. "It's like a fairy tale." The real date for the end of times, he says, is in 2011. The Mayans and the recent Hollywood movie "2012" have put the apocalypse in the popular mind this year, but Camping has been at this business for a long time. And while Armageddon is pop science or big-screen entertainment to many, Camping has followers from the Bay Area to China. Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he'd found: The world will end May 21, 2011. Maybe I should cancel my dental cleaning appointment on the 20th. Sounds like it will just be a waste of time.

Well, damn! If it's all going to end on the 21st, I sure hope it does it before I have to get ready for work that night! Seems a big waste of time to get dressed and ready for work if I'm just gonna be burned to a crisp!

I know this isn't political, but we only have about 10 more days. I'm packing up some of my Y2K bunker leftovers to sustain me during the trip.

I'm taking this seriously. Harold developed a mathematical system and crunched the numbers. Harold looks and sounds credible to me...

Harold hardly seems like the type that would have misplaced a decimal or anything like that when he crunched the numbers in that mathematical system of his. Looks like we are done for.

I agree, bill. Plus Harold's a retired civil engineer who has scrutinized the Bible for nearly 70 years.
I fear we're a go-ner.

So what exactly is the point of this kind of thread? Bashing just to bash, or do you actually believe this crap? If you don't why in the blue hell would you be willing to give this person any serious thought? And by serious thought I mean actually read the article.

When you are dead, you are dead. Does it really matter if the world goes with you?

Services offer post-Rapture care for pets left behind 7You recommend this64%You don't recommend this36%Shared 105 timesChristians' pets will be without owners if the Rapture comes, so nonbelievers are willing to rescue them -- for a fee. By Karen Datko on Tue, May 10, 2011 4:22 PM When my beloved Tankie died, a friend gave me a copy of "Dog Heaven," a sweet children's book. The drawings of happy dogs romping in an afterlife were comforting, even though I didn't buy the concept.
But what if the book is wrong? What if there's not a life after death for dogs, cats or other household pets? And what if the Rapture comes and you're spirited off, leaving your critters behind? (Some people believe the Rapture will happen as soon as May 21.)
Two organizations that we know of are willing to arrange for their post-Rapture care by nonbelievers for a small price.
For $135, and $20 for each additional pet, Bart Centre's Eternal Earth-Bound Pets USA will have your pet picked up within 24 hours after the Rapture -- guaranteed! -- and adopted, Washington Post columnist John Kelly reports. So far more than 250 people, mostly in the Bible Belt, have taken Centre up on this. The contract is in effect for 10 years -- good to know in case the May 21 prediction is off. If the 10 years expire before the Rapture comes, perhaps you can renew.
Centre and his 44 contractors in 26 states are pet-loving atheists who have sufficient space to take the usual types of household pets, including birds and hamsters, into their homes to live out their lives. Adoption of large animals like horses and llamas is available in Montana, Idaho, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Likewise, After The Rapture Pet Care, co-founded by a Christian and a nonbeliever, has a network of non-Christian volunteers who will provide a similar service for a $10 fee. Post continues after video.
Questions come to mind, and some are answered at these services' websites. At Eternal Earth-Bound Pets USA:
Q: How can we trust that you'll honor your service agreement, afterall, you ARE atheists. … We fully endorse the "Rule of Reciprocity", also known as "The Golden Rule." We just happen not to believe in God(s). … From After The Rapture Pet Care's website:
Isn't the world going to be totally collapsed after the Rapture? When all the Christians on the planet disappear, there will certainly be massive confusion. However, the majority of people will still be on earth, and communications will be their first priority to maintain. Therefore, I believe it will not be a problem to coordinate activities to rescue and care for your pets. … And, no, this is not a joke or a hoax.
"I am offering them peace of mind," Centre told the Post. "We can commit to you that we have the resources and infrastructure to rescue your pet from certain slow starvation or thirst, at just over a dollar a month. I do not feel like I'm taking advantage. I am satisfying a demand.”

As I have said, if it does not happen on May 21st, all these religious organizations need to give the people a full refund on everything they gave to these loons, and then they all need to be shut down.
No God is coming to save a soul. Doctor's, Firemen, Paramedics and people save and help one another. Not some intangible bs God that you have been brainwashed into believing in has ever done a thing for anyone.

Gosh, maybe I should get a pet sitter (just in case?) Crap.....That date isn't good for me because the whole rapture thing will absolutely ruin my vacation. Any way we can petition congress to move that to the 28th....scratch that, that's my anniversary....still not good for me. Hell (no pun intended), let me check my calendar and get back to you with more convenient date.

So I guess the answer to my question the thread was set up for no other reason than to Bash Christians. Great, bash, bash bash christian, hate hate hate, fundamentalist, bash hate regurgitate, same lines different day, Christians believe in a god neither proven or unproven, environmentalist believe in mother nature again neither proven or unproven yet we bash one and help the other control the thoughts and actions of others, what;'s the difference?

The fig tree is widely regarded by Biblical scholars as the Nation of Israel. The near miraculous re-birth of Israel-- the only time in history when a nation was not merely formed, but re-birthed as a nation is viewed by many as the fulfillment of the prophecy in Ezekiel 37:
