When I get a suitable lump of time, I'll port over some of the current hacks.
The link colouring/shining shouldn't be any trouble, and I'll add VSmileys to the reply boxes, since QuickReply doesn't have any smileys, and the regular reply has a pretty lousy selection.
They've eliminated the karma system, so VKarma is no longer necessary.
VLeanNMean will take a significant bit of adapting, but it should also be useful.
Threads no longer appear to have icons on the new board, but they do have the associated "normal", "hot", and "on fire" icons that could be commandeered for that purpose.
I'm a little torn about VQuickBar. The new system has a "participated" list that can be accessed with a single click on most pages that brings up a list of threads recently participated in. It also indicates which ones have new content. In short, it does most of what VQuicBar currently does.
The problem is that it isn't quite as convenient. You need to be at the top of the page to use it, click it (rather than simply roll over it), and it isn't available on all pages. Furthermore, you can't pin threads, delete threads, refresh its data, or configure its options. Since VQuickBar comes with an option to disable it anyway, I'll port it over if and only if it isn't a major headache to do so. On the plus side, VQuickBar will be able to scan for new threads automatically in milliseconds using the new architecture, and so the "Refresh" buttons will no longer be needed.
There are also dozens of other convenience hacks (borderless tables, preview in quick reply, UBBC in personal messages, thread creation limits, word game forms, etc.) that should port over without too much hassle.
Best of all, since v5 is HTML5 compliant, all browsers will be able to take advantage of all features in all skins crash-free. This will be of particular significance to IE users, who currently view "crippled" versions of most skins.
With the exception of the WYSIWYG editor, most people will only notice cosmetic differences between v4.x and v5. The majority of the enhancements are to make life easier for admins, and to make it easier for admins to make life easier for their posters.

Virgil, if you use UBBC for your posting default (rather than the WYSIWYG visual style), that ports over to PMs as well.
I am trying to figure out the 'collapse categories' hack - important to me because the board is so long without it.

By "personal message", I was referring to the snippet of text that can optionally be placed under one's avatar. The profile options calls it "personal text". It doesn't permit UBBC by default. I can port that one over too. And the good news is that we should be able to do it without any reliance on cookies or openkeyval.org, which I've been using as a repository for permanent user settings.

Any idea why the forum index doesn't show up on the main page now? (Talking about the v5 beta.)

Ah yes.
When we actually deploy, we'll have to put some instructions on the splash page to that effect.
Or better still: we could have the home page be the forum index (as it is now in v4.x), with the splash screen as one of the categories, and all of the categories collapsed by default on the first visit except the splash screen.

Last night I attempted to sign on, no go. Then I attempted to register anew. I went through the sign-up, got my activation code, entered it when asked, it took me sign-in, did, that took me back to enter activation code, entered it again, back to sign-in, back to..., back to ..., Never got out of the loop.

Moon: I've completed v0.99 of the collapsible category plugin, including user-linked memory settings, a configurable plugin UI, and an exported version of the plugin uploaded here. Try it out and see what you think. Altogether I have to say I'm quite pleased with the new v5 architecture. The code, keys, UI, and UI settings are all packaged together as a module. And even better: they've built v5 on top of jQuery, so we can eliminate that as an external dependency.

What a thoughtful compliment. I'll say in reply: what makes any effort worthwhile is a well-administered board and a wonderful community.

Ok, not sure if this is where I should post this or not, but since the smarter ones are apparently hanging out here I'll give it a try.
I can no longer log in while using my wireless AT&T modem on my laptop. I was able to login in before but a recent software update from AT&T apparently wiped out something. I've gone to the AT&T helpsite and done as suggested (deleted cookies, browsing history, reset IE to factory defaults etc). Since I'm able to log in at home from the same laptop using the home wireless network I know it is an issue with the AT&T modem (and not pro-boards!).
Any suggestions? I really hate not being able to post during the 2.5 hours I spend on the train each day...
And FWIW, Thanks to all the mods for running a great board!

Can you describe what happens when you try to log in, captain? Sorry about it taking so long to respond, I'm home now after traveling all weekend (and unable to log in!!!) Can you imagine what it was like to see your question and be unable to respond! When I type my username and password (while using AT&T wireless modem) and hit enter the login page re-loads (just as if I hit refresh). No error messages, nothing except seemingly re-loading the page. I don't even get the prove you're human page I get sometimes when I type my password wrong. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

It sounds like a problem with not being able to store cookies. Basically, all the login procedure does is fire off your info to Proboards' server, gets an HTTP reply, and uses it to set two cookies for the notmsnmoney.proboards.com domain. If those cookies can't be set, the login fails silently. It is curious, though, since you should still get error messages from Proboards when your login info isn't correct. I would first suggest trying another browser on the same machine. If the error persists, it definitely isn't a cookie problem. It could possibly be a certificate error. Some browsers (most notably older versions of IE) fail silently on some certificate errors and simply reload the page. One of the most common ones: make sure that your system clock has the right date (within a day). Authentication can fail if your system time is out of whack. It tends to happen with laptops if their CMOS resets. If neither of these measures works, let me know.
