Just checking in to say Hi. Yesterday I posted a Housecleaning Pop Quiz on my blog and today I have been trying to remedy the failing grade I received. DD has a softball game tonight and DS has a baseball game early tomorrow morning and other than church on Sunday I plan on dedicating the rest of the time to getting this house back to par and then spending the rest of the time the kids are in school (2 weeks) to get organized and a Summer system in place. I am so excited for our Summer Curriculum. We will be doing Poems and States/Capitals along with reading, spelling and math.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
HAPPY NO SPENDING

UPDATE ON THE CAR
Dad met with the California Highway Patrol and DA this morning; they're making a move in about 30 minutes.
It's unclear if the person selling the car is the one who stole it back in December or someone just clearing out a storage container. Since they don't have much hard evidence they need to put on wires and get a confession.
Based on how the car was stripped it may be a car theft ring which would be a big bust so they've got to do it right. Fortunately my Dad has documentation on some of the rare things about the car that haven't been stripped (reportedly).
So, fingers crossed we'll have the car back and insurance will cover the restoration while prosecuting the thieves.

honey - Those two are whackadoos (new word of the week). I so hope Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum don't get voted back on the board and are stuck twiddling their thumbs!
start - Good luck with the cars!

ANOTHER CAR UPDATE
Verified the car is Dad's and it's recovered! My brother was waiting around the area but did not go in, they just called him in.
I'll get more details from Dad tonight.

honey - BRAVO BRAVO - well played! Nicely done. The southern in me is appalled by the yankee manners (or lack thereof) displayed by your board members (the sentence should be read with a southern drawl).
start - congrats on getting the car (at least most of it back)
I'm on track with CS/NS days (minus 1), I need to count my NEOs & MOANs.
My new handbag (my one unplanned spend day so far) arrived. It is beautiful and I have gotten tons of comments on it. I am so pleased with it - it is a perfect addition to the collection.
Work this week has been hell - now it looks like they may re-post the job I want w/o ever interviewing anyone. If the rumors are right - they are not even looking at the resumes of internal people that made the short list because any idiot who doesn't know what we do HAS to be more qualified than any of us. I guess I needed a kick in the pants to keep posting my resume - and the universe gave me one.
I've been reading along - hugs and prayers for all.

Update: 8 NS and 8 CS days
Coming up for air. Managed to get all of the first part of the exam graded and ready for posting next week, second part of the exam is ready for the kids to take, half of the plants have made the transition to home and some of the personal items are secured for the summer. My school runs a summer camp and will be using the classrooms in my building during that program time. Each time I walk from the room to my office area I carry a few of the items. My bookshelves are beginning to look bare. Once I take home a few more plants and stow away a few additional items the room will be ready for its summer use.
Unfortunately this is also the time of the year my house seems to get out of hand. So after a graduation tomorrow, I plan to use the rest of this weekend and perhaps a few afternoons next week to catch up on some much needed major housework chores.
Haven't had the time to read up on all of the events of the last few days so I hope all is going well with all of you.

FINAL CAR UPDATE
Everyone is safe, the whole thing went well and no one was injured. Dad went in with an undercover police officer with a cover ID (pretending to be a friend of ours from the Bay Area). They had to get the car out in the open since it wasn't at the first location.
Once they got the car out Dad verified the engine block number and took possession of the car. Both of the guys who had the car for sale are in custody and they have evidence because Dad wore a wire!
Thankfully the insurance company will pay for repairs and to restore the stolen parts - thieves stripped the brass headlights, steering wheel and the radiator.

Sheila - I love the apartment, and I really love the fact that I have a 3 minute drive to work! The play I costumed this spring is winding down (just one more performance to go!) so I'm finally taking time out to get all of my sewing/crafting supplies actually into my sewing room and not strung out all across the living room, stairs, and upstairs. I about died from shock today... one of the things I still need to buy is an actual ironing board, not just the table top one I borrowed from Grandma. We've got one at work....... for $89.99 I asked our receiving manager if it's gold plated In the interest of doing some research on the subject, I went to the store next door (a regional membership department-type store, think wal-mart but employee owned and not evil), they have a nearly identical model right down to the brand and it was $27.99. I'm going to keep looking. Startsmart - I'm so glad they were able to recover the car. Even if it's not all there, this is just another interesting twist in it's history. And kudos to your dad for being able to stay calm and keep his poker face in order to bring the thieves to justice! Other good news - While my aunt still isn't talking to me, my mom let me know that auntie's new manufactured home has been placed on the property and she should be able to move in by the end of the month. And if all goes well, she'll have her adult foster home up and running by July. I'm going to give her a few more months to settle down before I try to rebuild that bridge.

Thanks everyone, we are so grateful the car situation went well.
Mizbear, this is definitely a family hobby for is as well. My grandpa who passed away in oct bought this car and sold it to my dad. It's a 1911, right hand drive, red EMF and if you're on my facebook page I posted pictures.
The entire reason we found the car was because we know the network of antique car enthusiasts in CA and a friend of ours was offered the car for $5,000 (in the condition it was when stolen its worth 5 times that).
We have an event next weekend where we're showing cars and then the Model T run in June so I know my Dads going to love telling the story because, as a friend of mine pointed out, now he's a "badass" lol, he loved that

Quick update. DH is back in Georgia. I will be flying down on Friday to bring him home! I also just paid off another credit card! I hope after we move I can get hired and be able to continue paying off our debt at a rapid speed.

KCgal her. I've been MIA. I have been reading along just to busy to post. DD had a short term baby sitter issue and I ended up baby sitting DGD a lot last month. It was my exhausting pleasure though. Also had and still have a great deal of gardening that I have been working on. Also trying to grow grass. Why is it so hard in the spring and so easy in the fall? Rapid City meet up: jeans/shorts casual shirts and one sweatshirt or jacket for the cool evening is all you will need. Nothing we are doing is dressy. Catholic folks a good pair of jeans and a decent looking shirt will work for Mass. SES always tells me "a tucked in shirt means you are dressing up". The first few years I went up there. I was too dressed up and I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal! Can't wait to go to Storybook Island, a primary teachers delight. You will get the best animal pictures at Bear Country. I love it when they have baby animals in the nursery area. My two favorite things! The country side is interesting too. Wait til you see the sunsets. There are just like the old westerns when the cowboy rides off into the sunset. Sigh. Sunrise is even better if you want to get up that early. Sapphire & Mom S. can't wait to have picture taking buddies with me. SES is used to having to pulling over and let me take a picture. I'm pretty thrilled it won't be just that will be saying, wait, stop, I got to get that picture! REENEE: You go girl. Make those kids sit safely in the carts. I think it is an accident waiting to happen. REENEE: I'm wondering about your drive from Denver verses flight to Rapid City. Have you carefully checked it out? Car rental expenses + in the olden days it used to be 10 cents a mile. I don't know what it is now, + gas that is currently $4.00 a gallon but will be more in the summer, + isn't there another fee when you go from state to state? What time of day are you leaving from Denver? Do you need another overnight stay there? Do you realize that it is all what I call blink towns. Blink and you will miss them. Many small town have gas stations that close at 9:00pm. SES and I found out the hard way on that coming back from Yellowstone. Also sometimes during tourist season, and harvest it is hard to find a room so I would book it ahead of time. Flying in might be about the same cost. The room is about 10 minutes from the teeny tiny cute little airport. So I'm wonder if car and all the expenses included is really cheaper than the flight. Don't know about all of you but i am already looking forward to a get away.

June Meet-up: This is looking less likely for me. No new job yet but it looks like I will have a week long business trip in the middle of June to Hawaii. The money I would spend for the meet up will be used to take DH with me if possible. I'd love to meet you ladies - but can't pass up a trip to Hawaii with my sweetie subsidized by work.
Scrapbooking Question: Any patient scrapbooks on this list? I'm finally going through everything I have - which is honestly too much. I could do 1,000+ pages AND 60 projects (literally) and have left overs. And because I have so much I get a mental block and don't do enough/any. In anticipation of our move sometime before the end of the year I have started going through all of my stuff and just started on the scrapbook stuff this weekend (I'm writing this on my 30 minute break!). So if anyone would like some page kits, coordinated paper/ribbon/letters/stuff sets, random paper, random embellishments, tools, etc. - please send me a PM and I will happily send you anything you want that I have plans to get rid of. You can say what you do or don't want (no kids, boys only, etc) and if I have it to give it is yours. Once I have a package I'll PM you to get your address and send it on its way. This will be NS scrapbook shopping event for you since I'll even pay postage! All I ask is you tell me when it arrives.
In case anyone is wondering why I don't just freecycle it locally - I've done that before (I used to do an annual clean out on a smaller scale) and it was frankly a pain. People were no-shows, complained, asked if they could look for more stuff, etc. If I decide to get rid of some larger tools that are more expensive I'll craigslist them - but this stuff isn't worth doing that for.

KCgal - Thanks for the concern on the trip. I got a little pannicked about my budget and being able to afford the trip there for a day or two, until I realized that I have 4 paydays between now and then and not 3 as I had thought. I wasn't concerned about the drive at all... to drive and see my brother, it's 8 hours of rocks and sage brush. Sometimes some hills to relieve the monotony. Some of the "towns" are lonely boarded up gas stations that have been closed for 50 years. Anyway, I'll fly into Rapid City. It just hurts to spend that much on air fare. I'm going to have to make myself some flash cards and start studying people's real names! How do ya'll feel about wearing name tags? ;D

Spruby - I also have a ton of scrapbooking stuff, even more since sbcaligirl gave me a bunch of her stash. Since mine is pretty well organized and contained I don't worry about it much. It's a hobby and since I don't throw away puzzles when I'm not using them or donate the books I'm not currently reading I'm okay holding on to the scrapbooking stuff.
If you want to donate the stuff you won't use though I would recommend a) local teachers who do crafts b) scrapbooking clubs/sellers c) crafty friends
There's a creative memories seller in my town and she holds monthly "crop til you drop" events so if I ever wanted to offload stickers and paper and such I would drop it off for her to put in the communal pot.

startsmart - I have tons too - but space is a premium (both in our place now and in the next place) and frankly for me more is less. Oddly scrapbooking is not that obviously popular in metro DC. All the local stores have closed (except one about 40 miles away) and none of my friends scrapbook.
Whatever I don't give away here I'll freecycle in one batch - but frankly most of this is page kits - not lots of one thing and so is tough for teachers to use (per teachers I've worked with in the past).
Since I know some here have said they scrapbook I thought I would make the offer. It is actually easier to put in a box and drop off at the post office then handle timing on freecycle. My time is worth more than shipping costs.

Update: 9 NS and 8 CS days We had a beautiful day for our high school graduation today. Today was a NS day as I returned home from the graduation and started on the housework. Managed to put a dent in it and after a needed trip to Wally World tomorrow (this will be a definite spend day) hope to finish up the rest. A deep cleaning will wait until school is completely finished. Exams are next week and then some meetings I think. kcgal - I am looking forward to the trip as well. I will join you and Sapphire's mom in picture taking. Jeans and tees work for me. And you can rest assured that this southern girl will have a sweatshirt with her for those cool nights. Remember I was quite comfortable in KC when everyone else complained about the heat. Renee -- Quite relieved that you will be flying into Rapid City instead of driving. Travel is hard enough these days as it is without wearing yourself out before you even get to where you are heading. Don't worry about flashcards. Within a few minutes you will have us down without a worry. spruby -- you may want to check with azmom about the scrap-booking materials. I know that she does some and that her children are always doing some craft project. I am sure that she will be more than happy to relieve you on some of your stash. Start - glad to hear that your DOD got the car back and that he is the local hero. honey -- I think that you are a wise women not to stoop to the level of some other members of your community. Stay calm as you and the girls finish up the school year. Things will get done maybe not quite up to your usual standards but they will get done.

I am so fed up with this darn weather! I am not one who ever flips back and forth between the AC and heat and I have been doing it all spring. We'd make do without the AC on except DS's room will get up to over 80 and that is just too hot for him to sleep. So we get several days of highs in the upper 80s then we get several days wih the highs below 60! YUCK. It was 89 degrees on MOnday and tonight it is suppose to get down below 40. Just decide. Either stay hot or stay cold or in between, but stop bouncing back and forth.
DS has some sort of cold. He was incredibly fussy all day today. This morning he just cried and cried. It was a little cold to play on our hill, so we took him about 5 miles up the road to a nursery and looked at plants we want to get. We walk in and there is our former employer! She didn't recognize us at first, but then she was like OMG I know you and gave us a big hug. I hadn't seen her in 5 years. We didn't part on good terms, but 5 years heals a lot. DS loved the nursery. We got some ideas. Now we just need a plan. We didn't buy any. As our former employer was leaving, she gave us her coupons for $2 off in June. So DH and I are going to wait until June to go back and by things I think. We may go back in 2 weeks to get the names of some plants we liked.

I, too, am getting excited about the meet up. It looks like Reenee, Moneysquirrel, Sapphire and Mom Sapphire are the only fly-ins. (I am so relieved you will be flying in , Reenee, I was really concerned about that. If you all will let me know your arrival times perhaps we can work out pick ups from the "teeny tiny cute little airport" (as per KCgal) to avoid shuttle/cab fares. Just to reiterate--bring a sweatshirt and/or a jacket, evenings can get really cool, especially you Moneysquirrel, I'm afraid your NOLA thinned blood might really notice it! ha ha. It just dawned on me that you all will get to meet Miss Onyx and Calleigh (if she is not being shy) in real life. MK are you still planning on bringing your family and meeting up with us? I'm pretty sure Sheila and "the boys" are coming. I hope everyone got the Visitor's Guide and has had a chance to go through it.
smartstart--so glad the car saga turned out well...and that your dad got to play an undercover hero. I'm sure that will be a favorite adventure/story for a long time. For him and your club.
I'm also looking forward to KCgal's arrival so I can get the last boxes of my mom's precious treasures transfered to her. Little does she know!
Moneysquirrel--Enjoy the last days of school countdown. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago you were getting your classroom ready for the first day. When are you completely finished?

Start: How exciting!
April's Numbers: I e-mailed the numbers to Shanen right before she left. She will get to it sometime after Sunday. sorry for the delay in getting them to her, was a stressfull couple of weeks.
Reenee: Glad the apartment is working out so well for you.
Meetup: On the fence, Hard to plan when DF is looking hard for a job and if he gets one it will be hard to go. Plus between gas prices rising and justifiying the cost.... But I really would like to take DS#1. Have also figured out through our last trip that there is no way DD could make that long a drive. We are having a garage sale next week and the money we raise will either go towards that or Summer activities. So there is my firm Maybe LOL.

Okay, if I wasn't already ready to move to the country I am now! Woke up about midnight due to a helicopter and finally called dispatch to find out why my city sounds like a war zone. Apparently someone stole a car and then ran from the police. Oh-Kay. I go to the kitchen to get some water and see flashing lights of an ambulance and cop car. Five min later they're putting police tape across my lawn and the whole dang neighborhood. Not supposed to answer the door, go outside or anything for god knows how many hours. This is absurd.
On a related note, I need to take my dad up on his offer to get me a nice gun.

I walked outside at 1:30 to find a stolen, smashed up car in front of my driveway. Thankfully it didn't hit my car but now the police and forensics will be out there for a few more hours processing.

Ah, I've just read the last page, so I might miss somethings. Yeah, I have a new roof. It's beautiful as far as roofs go. The contractor upgraded my shingles. I've decided to increase my MOANs for this week. Today, I did Taebo Basis and the express workout. Whew. Today is a NS as I have not left my house today and the only reason I am leaving later is to go to my parents' house for dinner.
reenee -- glad you are flying into Rapid City.
start -- Congrats on your dad getting his car back. The ironies of the night's adventures; nothing like a police investigation to force you to stay in the house.
spruby -- enjoy your bag. I know advid bookscrappers in the area if you don't get enough response from the board. Keep me posted and we'll get in touch if need be.
kcgal -- Welcome back! I'm glad you had quality time with your DGD.
Rapid City -- I'm excited for our trip. I too am cold-natured and will have a sweat shirt and possibly a thermal under shirt. LOL. Mentally, I've packed for this trip.
moneysquirrel -- I've been watching coverage of the Morgana Spillway gates being opened. I find it fascinating, even though I know people's lives and livelihoods are being adversely affected by this. I think this is a once in a lifetime event for most people. Glad you made it through graduation.
muttley -- I feel you on the weather. It's all of 75 degrees and it's humid like you wouldn't believe. I refuse to turn on my AC. It's supposed to be in the low 70s this week and rain all week. Oh joy.
Angel -- yeah for DH being back on US soil. I know you and your family are breathing and sleeping much easier now. Thank you to your family for your sacrifice and service!!!!!
SES -- Right now, Mom and I are scheduled to get into Rapid City at 6:13 pm on June 26. Delta has already delayed our flight once, so we'll see if this time holds up. I"ll keep you posted. I'm excited to meet the cats!

happy Sunday all! I just got back from seeing a house about 2 hours north and boy there was a lot of wind and rain showers! Decent place though, will need to go over the pictures with my parents before we make any offers.
Thankfully the police cleaned up the wrecked car and left about 3am but I'm so tired from the late night. Too exhausted to think what would have happened if they'd totaled my car too.
Thanks to all for the support on recovering Dad's car! He's gotten some requests to speak to the press so he might be going on the news this week and hopefully we can recover more parts.
