Well I've been so productive today I have to stop and pat myself on the back. I'm using the Pomodora technique to stay on track and I find it really helps for big blocks of time. It goes 25 min (work), 2 min (break), 25 min (work), longer break (10-25 min). This morning I did 5 blocks of work and 3 short breaks before taking my lunch break. Got a lot accomplished too. During the breaks I tend to move around. So far I've: *made my bed *put away 2 loads of laundry *started 2 loads of laundry *finished dishes in the sink *put away clean dishes *restocked bathrooms *put things away in the garage It's really nice to have this mix of work/chores. I'm bad when it comes to sitting and working for 4 hours straight without a break. Now if I want to check the thread or Facebook or take out the trash I just wait until my 25 min work block is done. Last night I mowed the front lawn so I think I'm slowly getting last weekend's to do list done shenan- sorry I missed the post about your gma. Hugs during this tough time and safe travels for the service. p.s. I am addicted to books and find myself in the same spot. do you collect any series? I tend to restrict myself to the series I am trying to fill in at any given time. Okay, work break over - back to it!

SES: I agree with Dakota. My DD is three and will be four in July and talks non-stop in complete, often demanding, sentences. I am also around plenty of three year olds and even the ones who do not talk often or are shy are able to talk and have no problem expressing themselves in complete sentences when they are so inclined. My DD will be completing her 5th year of speech therapy and even though we couldn't understand her at three she was still communicating through words. My DS (technically the middle child) just started speech therapy but again could still speak fluently at three. IMHO, and after working in a three year old classroom once a week for 16 weeks, three year olds have the most to say and NEVER stop talking!
mizbear: Being able to choose our child's teacher is a new concept to me. We are new to the district and last year was my first experience with it. The form does not guarantee you will get your selection of teacher (but that is because it is first come first serve). My dd previous school did not allow parents to select their teachers. Again, my feelings are conflicted because I really do not know how to feel about the process but because this process DOES exist and there was just too much disparity in knowledge and ability to learn in DS class, I feel like it is my responsibility to at least choose a teacher that will be challenging for him. That being said, we are in an excellent school district and the curriculum is above par in comparison to other districts, even though it is all AIMS driven. We have GREAT teachers and I would be content with any of them, however, it seems as if the majority of the kids in my son's classroom now lack parental reinforcement at home and are probably also the kids who's parents did not fill out the form last year.
Muttleyn: You are such a great first time mommy!
Soda: As soon as I can get out of this PMS induced fetal position I will be going to get a soda and chocolate for that matter without even being sorry! It is exempt anyway right?

azmom - Thank you. I have learned so much from all of you guys and yeah PMS induced fetal position is exempt from the no soda. I did cave. I actually took the Mt. Dew out and sat it on my desk and stared at it. It has helped my headache, but wow what a rush of sugar of going 11 days without having any.

SES: I have to agree with the other ladies. 3 of my 4 nieces and nephews talk a LOT at 3 years old. DS has been talking non-stop since he was around 2 too. DS did the speech therapy thing because he had trouble with some enunciation. Therapy for him started with a home visit and assessment by the county for county services. When he it was determined he needed speech therapy the therapist would come to his daycare and work with him twice a week. Once he was school aged they pulled him from class twice a week. They told me they prefer to be able to start working with kids at the first sign of a possible issue.
I would encourage your friend to look into having her grandson tested to see if there is a problem. Shy is one thing but replacing words with grunts and noises sounds more serious.

Thank you all. I read the CDC pages and it was about what I thought. I plan to call my BFF tomorrow while her DH is at work. He tends to hear only what he wants to hear, unless it is his idea, and this won't be. He has a very strong personality and I want her to have some time to embrace the idea of having DGS tested before her DH has a chance to veto it without giving it any thought.
I also printed off the CDC pages and am going to send that to her as well.

About those kids standing up in shopping carts... I fully admit to being one of those nosy employees who go up to people and gently remind them that they can't leave their child unattended/ride or climb on the outside of the cart/let their kids run in the store. Yeah, I know it's a pain. Yeah, I know exactly how difficult it is to shop with kids who aren't cooperating. But from the store's perspective, you'll tell me to bug off right up until your kid seriously hurts themselves then sue us for not being "child proofed". Sure it's never happened to you, but I've watched a 35 lb. child try to climb into or out of a cart and send the infant seat balanced in the child seat crashing to the floor. I've watched another very small child trying to escape from the cart knock it over not only putting a hole in her lip and chin that required stitches, but also injuring the two other children also crammed in the cart. Yup, I'm a total curmudgeon, but you know what? I'd rather be a figurative pain in your backside than have your kid get actually hurt.

reeneejune- Despite the fact that I came from the generation that rode on the carts- People just don't pay attention anymore. Gin- Have a great time with your wedding this weekend. No muss, fuss or stress. Ok?? Speech problems- Most kids I went to school with were also pulled out and put into speech therapy a few times a week. The teachers realized I did better with music, so I never went- my speech therapy came with all the time I spent working on my music.

Everyone must be enjoying the beautiful weather today. no change in my numbers. Hoping to beat the storms tonight and get grass seed and fertilizer down so I'll get a MOAN in.
Had dinner with my GFs last night, it was nice to catch up with no little ones.
I read a blog about homemade Sopaipillas and now I really want some. I might try and make them at home though I don't have a spider to fish them out of the oil. Plus there is a restaurant close by that gives them to you free for dessert. Hmmm.....Warm sopailpillas with honey yummy!

Shanen: Sorry to hear of your Grandmother's passing. That is SO nice of your family to help with the cost of the ticket. Dakota: I hope you are feeling better. SES: Definately NOT normal behavior/speech. My DD can talk up a storm in full sentences. Have them look first into the school district assessing them. After age 3 if he has a problem, be it speech or Developmental Delay he would be serviced in the schools. In MN transportation is provided. After they go through the schools they may want to contact a developmental pediatrician for a more thorough evaluation and more recommendations. Hopefully the family is willing to be open about his problems and look for help with him. With no speech he more then likely either has a developmental problem or a hearing problem. Both of which are best caught early for early intervention. If you have any more questions feel free to contact (or have the family contact me) at my e-mail addy mittenkittenwir@gmail.com Muttley: Stay strong on the pop (aka soda ) I know sometimes it is easy to cave saying "so and so had some so I will also." Then again if you do slip up nothing is really harmed. Dog started training yesterday. He was challenging but workable. The waiting for his turn was tough for him and he was a little anxious about the whole situation. The trainer gave some great tips that I have been working with him at home on. We also have a goal to have him be active for at least 3 hours a day. I took him on an hour long walk this morning. Now it is raining so it may be difficult to get the second walk in. Hopefully this will be good for my MOANS!

Renee: totally understand your point of view and I just want to clarify that I do not allow my children to do such things but sometimes it takes a fall for them to stay in the cart. I guess I am just not the type of person to think to sue a store for something of the such but I guess that IS the world we live in. My children don't reek havoc on stores, but for some reason mommies and shopping carts seem to be a common source of contention. The talk at my MOMs group is great on this subject. If I have to deal with having my daughter standing in the cart shopping with one hand and the other on her with stares and comments from the public as to how I should be able to control my child then so be it at least my family will be fed

Gin: Have a great stress-free wedding! With beautiful weather hopefully!
MN is so soggy the farmers are getting a late start planting. Our backyard squishes with every step!
We had HUGE hail on Tuesday night (not quite as big as a tennis ball and about twice the size of golf ball) Only damaged one piece of our siding. There was a tornado about a mile away that damaged one or two homes but not ours.
Kids in Carts: If my kids are in the main part of the cart they have to be sitting. That is what DD had a major fit about one day. When she wouldn't sit I removed her from the cart so she had a major temper tantrum. Rather deal with that then stitches or worse! I just know that things can happen so quickly that I am extra caucious with that.

MK- I am not enjoying this soggy weather at all! Glad that your house escaped the bulk of the damage on Tuesday. DBro was at Target field for the Twins game. We barely got any real weather down where I live on Tuesday (other than the heat). But it's been raining and drizzling all darn day. Parking lot is one huge puddle SES: I forgot until MK mentioned it. They will likely recommend that the little boy get his hearing checked. I totally forgot about that part with DS.

azmom - Thank you, I was really hoping that you wouldn't take that as an attack on you, because it wasn't. I know all of the moms here are more alert than that. Here's the grain of salt: even if you don't sue the store, if an employee witnesses the accident or you request first aid supplies, we're required by company policy to report the accident to our insurance. They follow up with the customer (if the customer cooperates) and there's a charge to the store for each incident. The charge to the store has nothing to do with the severity of the accident... it's the company average cost for handling a customer injury. Or at least that's how it works with my workplace. So we really do have a vested interest in making sure that parents are paying attention to their kids while they're in the store. Or that the adult doesn't do something stupid themselves.
The same day that the little girl knocked over the cart with two other children in it, a mom and 3-4 year old girl came in the store. The mom got a shopping cart, then let her daughter get a cart as well. The child couldn't even see over the top of the cart! It gets worse! The mom then let the child wander randomly putting items in the cart that were "pretty". When I approached the mom and explained that due to the tipping hazard and since her child wasn't tall enough to see where she was pushing the cart that I had to ask her to put it away, she got really, really ticked off. "But that's how I keep her occupied so that I can get my shopping done!" Flabbergasted, I clarified... the mom intended her child to fill the cart, then make our employees put all of the items away when they were done shopping. She stormed out of our store grumbling about how she'd never shop there again because it was too inconvenient for her to keep track of her child without making a huge amount of extra work for our employees.
And it's not like we're a grocery store. Nothing in our store is a basic need. If you can't pay attention to your kid enough to shop and keep them out of trouble for an hour, then hire a babysitter and come browse. Really.

Reenee- I can't imagine letting mini-D push a cart by himself. He likes to push the cart and I do let him, but I'm holding onto the front end and guiding it so he doesn't run into anything. I'm surprised she didn't knock over merchandise doing that. I make it a game for him when I have to take him with me, I ask him to find what I need or if it is something I don't want him picking up, I have him find colors or letter on packages to keep him busy. Or I take snacks and make him sit in the seat and eat them.

I tell my nieces and nephews that it's illegal for them to push the cart if they are under the age of "X" (always one year older than they are currently) We used to do what Dakota mentioned- let the Boy push while we were steering it from the front of the cart. I did pull a bad mom a few weeks ago. DS was pushing the cart and I stopped to get something off a shelf at the grocery store and he rammed that darn cart right into my ankles. This was just a few days after the great fall in the garage so they were really sore already. I yelled "Son of a B%#ch that hurt". People stared like I was calling my kid an SOB. I felt really bad and apologized, he was all "it's ok mom, I know you were swearing at the pain, not at me" Now I make sure I am always behind whoever is pushing the cart- DH or DS!

Good News!! I just checked my student loan balance and entered the last couple of payments from my checks, and at my current rate of payback, I'll have it paid off in November. In fact, 11/11/2011!! That means I can go back to college starting winter term (Jan. 2012)!

Prayers / Good Juju needed tonight & tomorrow
In December my Dad's truck, trailer and antique car was stolen and while we retrieved the trailer in Dec and truck in January we now have a lead on the antique!
Dad is going in for a sting operation tomorrow and bringing backup!
Really hoping the car is his, the police can apprehend the guys who stole it and get the money from insurance to repair it!
ps we're keeping it really quiet (i.e. no facebook) until Dad gets back but then I'll let y'all know how it goes

reenee- Great news! start- All paws crossed. constanz- Prayers and hugs. sheila- ROFL Carts- You know what actually irritates me more than an out of control kid in the grocery store- an adult driving their shopping cart with a cell phone in hand, running through the store like it's a race, grumbles everytime they have to slow down or the elderly or handicapped- and when they see kid with a cart and cut them off, it's always "these d@mn kids and their shopping carts". My 9yo niece (#2) was too short to push the cart for a long time (I know the feeling, I am still only 5'3.5"), so I always made sure I had a "Miz Z" size job for her. I would have her carry my list and coupons, let her order the meats at the deli (and if they gave a sample, she got to taste test), escort Momma Bear around the store since she walks with a cane, etc. When my grandfather was still alive, it was her job to sit on the bench by Starbucks in the grocery store with him while we shopped. She had my spare cell phone (a pre-paid) I had at the time for emergencies and doctor's appts. Usually I got a phone call with a snack request from my grandfather . Now I can go into the store with the BIG list (when I do the 3 household shop) and give her and her sister each a cart and a Starbucks and we are done in 45 minutes usually. Sure beats 3 hours.

You do realize what that makes you, right Sheila? Thanks SS- I figured on you to make that comment It was wrong of me to yell that. But man the pain was so bad I nearly fell down. I had serious tears in my eyes. Poor Boy felt so bad at the time. Good luck with the big sting operation today. I really hope they are able to recover it and catch the idiots that stole it. reenee: I have been meaning to ask- how is the new apartment working out? Is it nice being in town and having a place to yourself?

Sheila, we used to point that out to gma when she would yell curses at my uncle. Made her so mad lol. The boy knows you weren't mad at him and only insulted yourself Dad is with the highway patrol in a meeting this am to set up the sting. Apparently the car is stripped of all brass, the radiator, even the steering wheel. He's going to try to get more parts out into the open and verify that it's his. Then hello officers! Probably a good idea to have the backup since he had 5 guys last night who wanted to ride along, armed. I don't know if dad is more excited about getting the family car back (he bought it from grandpa who died in oct) or having the bday party (club throws car parties and it's a 1911)

Gin - When you read this after getting back I hope your day was filled with peace and love. Congratulations. SES - Not having had small kids of my own I have seen with friends that younger siblings tend to develop language later. Something to do with the older ones "speaking" for them so they have little need to speak for themselves. startsmart - How did the car sting go? should we be looking to see you and your dad on America's Most Wanted wrestling this auto rustler to the ground? No Freakin' idea what my numbers are for May thus far - and very little incentive to even try and figure it out. Is it okay if I just take a Pass for this month and try to re-focus later? My anxiety levels have been off the charts the last couple of weeks and this makes me sluggish and completely unmotivated to do anything constructive such as laundry, cooking, paying bills etc. However it has had the oh-so-lovely side effect of putting my digestive system completely out of whack. Oh, and for those following the nightmare saga check out what happened earlier this week with our Association meeting and election: honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=thoughts&action=display&thread=217&page=1#1305227805Honestly, I couldn't make this sh!t up if I tried! The girls are leaving on June 23rd (to Finland) and June 27th (to China). Right now we are in the process of gathering a lot the "stuff" they have acquired over the year and boxing it up to send home - I do not want a repeat of last year's melt down at the airport when the luggage was over weight. They have a Going Home Re-entry Orientation this Sunday and I somehow got talked into making a cheesecake to bring to the potluck. Plus tomorrow I have a commitment in the morning to help scoop trash from the river, then drive them to the mall, do the grocery shopping, make the cheesecake and TRY and tackle at least one thing in my house to make me feel like less of a slob. Perhaps I'll put sheets back on my bed. OH, and I need to verify what time I am picking up the other two students to take with us on this two hour drive to where the Sunday event is, find time to pay some bills and figure out just what I am making for dinner tonight. Other than that not too much going on here ;D

Honey - no news yet on the car, this waiting is infuriating!
Also, karma for the amazing way in which you handled the condo board. After reading your link and all that's happened major kudos for keeping your calm. I hate hate hate when people fester a complaint and then gang up on one person at the most inappropriate time! Not to mention publicly and passive aggressively.
Your speech to the condo association was spot on perfect, I might have added "so suck it M & A!" but I've never been accused of perfect maturity ;D
Gah, I have so so much work to get done today and I'm so not in the mood to work. Oh well, suck it up and git her done. Reward time, if I get everything scheduled today that needs to be scheduled then I will go check out the property I want to buy on Sunday (2 houses, horse facilities and 6 acres for under $300k!!!!!)

Can't wait for today to be over. I just want it to be the weekend and have some downtime.
