startsmart - just to clarify, how many days were you planning to spend in each location? I could see that trip being really draining if you were only spending one day in each city after spending a full day of driving.

*Special Announcement*My wonderful husband will be starting his journey home next week! He will land in Georgia and then have to out process for about 5 days. I will fly down the end of that week to drive back up to Michigan with him! I am so happy to FINALLY be able to have him home again. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers this past year. ETA: Actually it will be this week he heads home since Sunday is the start of the week! He probably won't be landing until Saturday or Sunday. Awesome! Yay, Goose is almost here! ;D

ARGHHHH -- I returned two items at the store on Friday. I looked closely at my credit card bill today. I also checked my receipt. The sales associate charged me again. I called customer service and I have to go back to the store to get the return processed and I verified that the SA will need to do a return for double the amount. The only thing keeping me from going completely bonkers is that the store is on the way to my doctor on Wednesday.
On the bright side, today was a NS. I also walked at lunch.
start -- that's an aggressive driving plan; please be careful.
Angel -- Yeah that DH is coming home!!!!!!!!!
SES -- Since I've been losing weight my appetite is less. Somehow, I'm in denial and I haven't cut back on food just yet. The good thing is that I am overbuying fruit and will make a meal out of fruit if I'm home. I concur, eat all the veggies you want.
moneysquirel -- I've heard/read that New Orleans is in the path of the cresting rivers. Geez. I know you are outside of New Orleans proper, but hoping Louisiana is spared from the excess river water.
dakota -- any resolution with your ears?

Hey ladies! I hope you all had a great weekend. It was a good weekend at our house. Saturday afternoon, DS and I visited my coworker whose brother committed suicide. She was doing pretty good. DS provided some much needed toddler therapy for her family and I brought some cookie therapy. Sunday, church went well. I actually had more kids at Sunday School than I thought I would. I was sitting during worship and realizing how much dirt was in DS's hair. I was actually picking it out of his hair. I think that is a sign we need to give him a bath every night now. We came home DS had a nap. Then we went to my MIL's house and had an early supper at Applebees. It was pretty good. None of us had been there in a long time and DH's brothers paid for their portion of the meal and their mom's (we put the meal on our CC)! So, we put the cash in our date night fund cash fund.
Work was good today. I have gone without soda for over a week. I'm still struggling a bit with snacks, but I'm getting there. My mom and dad are going to bring BOTH of my grandmas down in 2 weeks to see DS. I am so so excited to see my dad's mom. In reality it has only been a month longer since I have seen her than my mom's mom, but she is so much more fun to be around and other than her 90th birthday party in August I wasn't sure when we were going to get to see her.

Angel- Glad hubby is headed home- thank him for his service.
ses- Does this mean white potato pie is a veggie too?
I am not doing much spending, but I am not keeping count very well. THer is a lot going on. Still clearing stuff out of the DM/DGM house, still moving stuff here, etc, etc and trying to do schoolwork.
Ex-SIL lost her job today. I have already heard my DBs side of that...soon I will hear her and the kids...

Update: 4 NS and 8 CS daysToday was a CS day. I knew this day was on the horizon, money is saved but it is a large amount (work on house deposit) that I have to count it. sapphire-- They started opening the spillway this morning. It releases water from the Mississippi into the lake then toward the gulf. They will continue to open more bays each day until all 300+ of them are open. This procedure is routine in the spring whenever the river gets really high. I think the last time was about 4 years ago. The spillway is about 20 miles north of my area so it is a really big news event whenever this happens. What is new is that they may also open the Morganza spillway slightly north of Baton Rouge. It was last opened about 25-30 years ago. This may flood several areas of farmland. Unfortunately some individuals have moved into that area so there may be some flooding in that area. The water that goes into Morganza will flow into the Gulf. Renee-- I agree with SES. By the time you rent the car, pay for gas, and fight the elements you may be out more than the added flight cost. Angel-- I want to add my thanks to your husband and your family for all you sacrifice to protect us. Start -- an addition to your list -- you get to meet with a great group of ladies. Note to all: The next two weeks will be my extra busy season. I will be working on exams and end of year reports, cleaning out the classroom, bringing home plants, securing personal items, and who knows what. I will pop in whenever I can but most of the time it will be a quick drive by. I started with partial exam grading (I have to give my exams in two parts) and have at least two more days of that this week before the official exam days begin next week.

8 NSD and I only spent fifty cents on a soda at work, nothing else. My GF and I are going to the book sale at Penn State tomorrow and I took $40 from my monthly stash. I only have $60 left. Has anybody heard from GLDNLUVLY? I still have not got my cookies and I ordered them in March. That is not like her. I hope everything is okay.

Update: 7/20 $0 days, 9/31 NEO Yesterday was almost a spend but I was strong and waited until I got home to have dinner, rather than run through a drive thru. Had to bring Miss Pants (niece) to dance while her mom coached a rare Monday night soccer game. Dropped her at Dance and then ran up to the Team Captains Meeting for Relay for Life. Raced from that Meeting back to get P from Dance and then ran her back to my house to meet up with BFF. Helps the day go by faster. So we have this challenge this month to not turn on the tv until after 7pm at night and no tv during the day on the weekends. SO far so good. Not that we were turning it on too much earlier than that but with the extra time we are getting so many little projects done around the house Should have thought of this idea years ago

Okay I broke down and had a pop today, but it is already been a day from double hockey sticks! First mini-D was up at 5:45 and only wanted me. DH took him anyway, but after 10 mins of nonstop crying I got up and handled him. DH had warmed up pancakes, but had gotten them too hot and then put butter on it that melted. Mini-D doesn't like melted butter, he likes to be able to see. DH got stubborn and decided he'll eat what I tell him too and they crying and carrying on ensued. I don't think mini-D feels well either, he coughed a lot last night and he had some discharge from his eyes. (I really hope we don't have to do eye drops again. That was awful.)
Then on the drive to pre-school and work I think my car had the cloak of invisibility on. I had 2 cars try to merge into the lane I was in without looking, one car decided to cut across 4 lanes of traffic without looking and then someone ran a red light (after coming to full stop). Once at work, the chef told me that he has to go to a eye specialist, because they think his lens has detached. (He fell off a ladder cleaning out his gutters at home a few weeks ago.) He was freaked out and has left me juggling my desk and the kitchen staff. Then a member showed up here for an event at our other location and broke down in tears. And another staff member had a family death and her supervisor refuses to deal with it so it is my job to find her replacement for her. And my ear/jaw is still killing me. I have chiropractor appt this afternoon, I'm hoping he can do something for me. It is only 9:30, but I want to go home now. So I broke down and am having a pop, because I want it darn it.
End of rant

Update: 5 CS + 4 NS = 9 of 27, 2 of 12 MOANs
Today will be a spend, and a fairly large one at that. My grandmother died yesterday, and the service will be on Saturday, but not sure what time yet. As soon as I get the details, I'll look at booking a flight to NC. DBro has offered to pay for half of my ticket since there's no way he can make it from Australia. This is one of the few times in my life that I will be using a travel agent. I don't want to have to call airlines looking for breavement prices myself (plus I have work to do). Normally, I do all my booking myself, but that's when I'm planning months in advance, not days. We get a discount through the travel agency our company uses, so it shouldn't cost me too much.
Angel: Considering my grandmother sent her husband to 3 different wars and her oldest son to 1, she'd be pretty upset with me if I didn't remember to say thank you to your husband for his service and also to you and your family for supporting him through this time. Heros are just as often the people holding the hand of a person wearing a uniform.

dakota & shannen: hugs to both of you.
I did not receive a lot of my mail last month. I'm missing two bills (electric & auto insurance). I called each and explained that I didn't receive a bill. They were polite and told me what I owed. I'll be sending checks out today. This is why I need to stay on top of Quicken. I've been really bad about it.
Topaz is still playing the snobby kitty when it comes to her food. I just spent another $25 on different catfoods and will she eat more than a mouthful...nope! Regular vet and second opinion vet were no help (blood work was good, kidney function good, liver good, heart good, stomach sounds good). Once she gets down to 5 - 6 lbs, I'll have to make some decisions.
My whole family is out of town, so guess who gets to take care of everyone's pets. Next time they can pay someone else to do it. I left my place at 5:30 to take my parents to the airport and didn't get home until after 10 pm. My DSis has been gone since the last week of April. She keeps moving her return date, since she doesn't start school until mid-June, that's OK, she's not missing anything, but she was supposed to be here to take care of our parents cat!

Update: I forgot this on my other post I'm at 5NS, 7NEO, 2 MOANs
Should get another moan tonight, I'm planning on de-thatching (is that the right word?) the yard. We'll see though.
By the way the hits just keep on coming. The receptionist came in and told me that her boyfriend broke up with her and her BFF's grandma died. Then a member had called earlier and asked me to help her setup a powerpoint then she showed up late and I had to get it running in front of a room full of people, which I really don't like, because something always goes wrong then.
Angel- So glad DH is on his way home!
Money- Good luck with the last few weeks!

Okay good news! The chiropractor really helped. I'd say my pain level is now a 5 instead of 8. He wants to see me again tomorrow and Thursday to finish getting me back in alignment. Then probably a couple times next week as well. I really didn't know that a chiropractor could help with a jaw problem, but at least for now I'm thrilled with the initial results.

Angel- so glad your DH is coming home!
dakota - yay for chiro helping the pain! I know it always does a world of difference for me.
honey- when do the girls go home? Any grad parties on the horizon?
Today ended up being a spend as I gave up on dinner and went out for food. I need to make something to eat this week, maybe tuna for sandwiches.
Still working on cleaning the house and getting things done but I'm stuck in lazy mode for a few days.

shanneh - Sorry for your loss.
Dakota - How are you doing today?
DS was Mr. Clumsy yesterday. It started with doing a header into the lazy boy and ended with a faceplant onto the tile and got a fat lip last night. DH said it was just like that pretty much all day although those were the two big ones. Then he was up from like 1:30 to 3:30 last night. Yuck, I am tired today. I have to get these plans done. I had them all done and to the Architect a week ago. On Monday I called the architect and at 2pm, he told me they were fine. At 3 he calls me back and says oh yeah I have some problems with them. He sends me his revised floor plans. One of the items on his floor plan does not work with us. Yesterday we called him at 8:30. He sends me revised plans at 9:30 and said can you get me revised plans today ASAP. Well, that change, while it works is causing me to change 1/3 of my plans and I've gone through 4 iterations to make it work. I think we are good now and I just need to clean it up and get them done, but of course it is my fault that they didn't get plans turned into the City yesterday. Jerks.

Same count as before as yesterday was a spend. I can't complain too much, though. Between DBro (who can't make it) and DOM (who divorced out of that family 20+ years ago) we're paying for $135 of my $810 ticket.
Today should be an NSD, if I can keep myself from going to the used book store. I need to remind myself that we have plenty of books at home that I haven't read yet, and a number of classics downloaded on to my eReader. I really should take just it, and not any physical books at all.
Tomorrow will be a spend though, as I'll need to get myself lunch on my 3 .5 hour layover at JFK. Thinking I might just grab come cash from the ATM this afternoon and have that for spending money. I shouldn't need much- just enough for a meal or two on each of my travel days.

Smokey; I did contact GLDN on fb but still haven't heard from her. Yesterday was a spend. I went to the UUAW book sale and bought a bag of books for $5 and bought GF supper. She picked me up at home, bought my lunch, and brought me home this morning. We had a great time. So still at 8 NSD.

6/15 NS 0/5 CS, 8/20 NEO. I'm still feeling pretty good. It still hurts, but less than before. I'm supposed to eat soft foods for the next few days. Tonight will be an EO, girls night out, but we haven't figured out where to go yet.
Muttley- Sorry, it sucks when people have unrealistic expectations. Mini-D seems to be in a clumsy phase right now too. I think it goes with growth spurts and developmental milestones. He scraped both knees on Monday, then poked himself with a toothpick in the hand, then bruised his shin running up stairs. I looked at his legs in the bath last night and has so many bumps and bruises it isn't funny.

2 NSDI tried to update yesterday but half way through a lengthy post I accidentally erased it all and gave up! RANT: I just turned in the teacher request forms to the kids school for next year. Apparently it is on a first come first serve basis. They were available on Monday and due by Friday. Last night a friend at a different school, same district, said, "I was there at 7:30 Monday morning and filled it out and turned it in!" Last year I was torn as to whether or not I should even do them. I ended up doing one for my dd and not for my DS. We were new to the district and I could only get feed back from a friend of a friend on 2nd grade and up (DS is in 1st) Anyhow, DS was placed in a class with a bunch of kids way below his academic level. It has left him very frustrated with school and I do not blame him. I have helped in his classroom several times and it is astounding how some of these kids are even in 1st grade! It has to be very grueling on his teacher with such disparity. During the Summer we do our own curriculum and during the school year I do my best to be on top of their school work often requiring more but this school year just got a way from me and quick. I am still involved in their work just not as much supplementing on the home front and DS has paid the biggest price by loosing interest in school I hope I was not too late turning in my form and he gets the teacher I requested. All of the aids at the school have their son in her class, a majority of them play on my sons baseball team. I have also received great feedback from other parents but have been told it is a really hard class to get into. I hear she is very challenging and my son NEEDS that. As for my DD I requested a teacher that a friend a year ahead of her has...so far DD has had all of her same teachers and it has been a great fit socially and academically. I find the whole process ridiculous and necessary all at the same time. UGH. Dakota: I'm glad you found a little relief. Shannen: Hugs ANGEL:SO VERY HAPPY FOR YOU AND DH!Sheila: I love that Challenge. I may need to implement one~a modified one of course Mutyleyn: My three year old DD, in a dress, fell really hard down a hill of rocks Sunday at church while I was standing next to her and a group of friends and the rest of our 10 kid total. I looked at her and said, "You're okay, get up." and went back to my talking. A lady who saw her fall was so concerned and asked who her mother was and I identified myself. She proceeded to tell me how hard she fell, and if she was okay. I assured her she was fine. My DD then walked over to DH and the lady followed her to tell him all about her fall and he assured her she was okay. She is a tomboy in a dress I tell you, and falls or gets hurt ALL the time. The poor lady. Kids are resilient and if I met the fall with a reaction my dd would cry forever, this way I know if she is really hurt or not. A scraped knee never hurt anyone, it only builds character. A lady at the store told my DD to sit down in the cart because the floor is hard and I told the lady, "So is her head" The lady didn't look to pleased with me. Don't get me wrong I do not approve of my dd standing in the cart but some days I just have to pick my battles and that day we needed groceries! We have had our fair share of black eyes, unicorn bump foreheads, scrapes, bruises, and on occasion blood. Of course I am on my fourth go around of this so I am a tad bit jaded Happy No Spending All OH AND DD WON HER FIRST TOURNAMENT GAME YESTERDAY AND WILL BE PLAYING THE NUMBER ONE TEAM ON FRIDAY!

Shanen& Dakota--Hugs to you both Diana--How old is Topaz? Has she had health issues before? Mizbear--Potatoes grow in the ground, they don't have a face that can look at you, ergo they must be vegetables. so i would think Potato Pie would be a vegetable. what is Potato Pie?
ADVICE NEEDED!!! I have a question for the parents of three-year-olds. My BFF has been having her grandson live with her for the last few weeks and I have not been involved with preschoolers for such a long time I don't trust my memory. What are the language skills for a three-year-old? This kid mostly communicates with grunts and screams. Is it because he is a middle child and his parents are so swamped with work and other kids that they let him get away with it, is it an attention getting device or some other easily explained issue. The more I am around him or hear BFF talk about him the more I worry. should I mention my concerns and suggest a professional evaluation or just keep my nose out of it. I am really concerned. Dakota, I remember miniD had a home visit about his developmental skills last year, how did you get that service?

SES- I think the concern is warranted. I'd at least ask her if he has been evaluated by a doctor recently. At mini-D's 3 year check up they asked him a bunch of questions (basically asked him to do the things on the language section of this link www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/pdf/parents_pdfs/3Year.pdf) I don't think grunting and screaming as the primary form of communication is normal at 3. Mini-D is verbal as are most of the other kids his age that I spend time with. They usually love to tell you about their toys or what they did that day and have no problem demanding what they want. Sometimes they are hard to understand, because they can't talk as fast as they think and it gets a little jumbled. The program we were involved in is Parents as Teachers, it is run through our local school district. Unfortunately they age out of the program at 3, but if they can't evaluate him they might be able to refer her somewhere else. Also around here most districts have a smart start and head start program designed to identify at risk kids at pre-school age and help them before they get into regular class rooms. So she could contact the school district about possible evaluation and resources as well.

azmom- I have to say this- I totally disapprove of parents getting to pick what class their kid gets unless there is a problem (wanting twins split up, dispute with a teacher that could cause problems for kid, etc). Our schools were always responsible for placing us. There were usually three, sometimes 4 levels of math, spelling, reading in the class and other subjects we did together. HAP/G&T kids or kids who needed extra help were pulled out at different times. Parents running the school and teachers with agendas was part of the reason that I almost never got into the HAP/G&T program. Tomboys in dresses- I was one of those SES- I agree with dakota. It could be from a lack of proper socialization and the behavior being tolerated, but it really needs to be checked. I will post the recipe for white potato pie- very simple recipe. Getting into a singing contest this summer. Colonoscopy in 2 weeks.

SES - I think concern is warrented. Obviously we aren't to 3 yet, but one of the things doctors want to see by age 2 is speaking in 3 word sentences and having a vocabulary of about 50 words or so.
azmom - UGH! I feel you on the lady pestering you. At church people will bring DS to me when he bumps his head or falls down. I roll my eyes at them. He bumps his head all the time. Unless there is a big ole knot or a bloodly lip, it usually doesn't even phase him, so I try not to let it phase me.
dakota - DS definately has growth spurted lately. So that could be.
I'm totally justifying sitting here wanting a soda. I'm like Dakota had one yesterday, why can't I. LOL. I probably could have one, but then I would worry that I would want one tomorrow. I've done so good. The last time I gave up soda I just substituted shakes and lemonade (full calorie) for the soda I was drinking. This time I have only had 1 shake and 1 smoothie and then occaisonally some Chrystal Light. UGH! I need to go to the fridge at work and get my afternoon bottle of water and with my headache that I have right now I kind of want to grab the last MT Dew in there instead. We'll see what I do.

Diana--How old is Topaz? Has she had health issues before? She's 10. I switched her to a Senior formula food. I'm gonna have to buy more canned food, she's not eating what I bought. And she only lasted two days on the dry. OTOH Sammy's the feline garbage can and it'll all get eaten eventually. The only health issues she's had are an allergy to bees and her FIV/Leukemia shots.
