Sushi loves being at the vet's. He makes friends with all the folks in the waiting room, chases dogs around, and hogs the large weighing scale. Nobody is allowed on it if he's sitting on it. The vet even has trouble listening to his heart, because he's purring so much. The trouble starts when we try to get him into the carrier. It took the vet and two assistants, and the vet was wearing those chain-mail anti-bite gloves. How much was it, mmhmm? I wonder if I could jury-rig a home-made one?

"Jake" doesn't mind his carrier (too much) - It's just getting him into it. At home, I'm now leaving it on the floor in the sewing/spare bedroom with the hatch open and a towel laid inside it and he crawls in there to take naps. I also bought myself one of these (less than $10) for myself for my aches & arthritis. It's a hand-held battery operated muscle/back massager that vibrates when activated by pushing the "nose". It's called a "Hum-Bug". I use it to massage "Jake" to calm him down. He loves the humming noise and vibration on him and it calms him right down. He loves it.

Well, it's big enough that it won't be of much use for anything else.

They're $39.95 US, welts, but I don't see why you couldn't rig something like them. They're just felt with strips of velcro. If you're handy with your hands and a needle and thread (or sewing machine), it shouldn't be hard to duplicate. It just wraps around the trunk of the cat, with straps that wrap to the front (over the shoulders and across the chest), fastening with velcro strips that are spaced out to allow for adjustment. There's an extra flap sewn to the top center with the same velcro strips on the underside. It's that flap that can be adjusted for firmness of "squeeze". With her coat on, I can put Chooch into a carrier without her suddenly developing 18 legs with clawed paws, and several sharp-toothed maws bent on destroying me. All I have to do is slide her in. She's calm as she can be and purring.

In the car, you slide the seat belt through the handles and voila!

Now, I don't see any reason why that couldn't exist. Of course, the critter being carried in it would have more teeth and claws than anything currently known ... but it could exist.

Ya know, the more I look at that carry gadget, the more I think it's a great idea! I could knit shoulder straps for Chooch's Thundershirt! That way, I could carry her around the house as I go about my chores. She would absolutely love that (except when the vacuum cleaner was part of the mix).

If you used the Thundershirt as a base, it might just work, welts! ;D I'll be wanting royalties. When you mentioned the calming effect, and how easy it was to get them in a carrier with a Thundershirt, I thought "Why bother with the carrier at all? Just put handles on the thing!"

Sometimes I look at Sushi in awe. He's just so beautiful. He'll be sitting at the window with the sun shining a halo around his form and I'm left breathless. He's the perfect Tonk, and would easily be a show cat if he wasn't fixed. The coat is gleaming. The proportions are exquisite, from the shape of the jaw to the cut of the oversized ears. The obsidian muzzle, the elongated head, the clear azure eyes are a testament to his royal bearing. It's easy to see why they were revered as gods in ancient Egypt.
Too bad he's such a doofus, running around with a garbage bag stuck on his head.

LOL! Welts, I've thought the same of Choo Chi, so many times. Her confirmation and coloring are absolutely perfect for her breed, but she has to be the biggest klutz I've ever seen. I had to pull her out of mother's toilet again just a couple of days ago. Note, I said "again". That's the fourth time this fool cat has ended up in the damned toilet! You'd think she'd learn!
