By the time the next election comes around, Trump will be 82, the same age as Biden is now. If the Republican Party continues to follow him, they are going to be electing for extinction. Age alone will make them look for someone to assume the mantle of the MAGA movement I think the Republican Party elite was ready to move on after 2020/21 but the Republican Party voters were not. I think if Trump loses this year that the Republican Party elites will be looking to move on past Trump, but I am not sure the majority of Republican Party voters will be as ready. To what degree MAGA is a cult of personality and not a political movement will very much impact that happening. I recall people running as just younger carbon copies of Donald Trump and yet we still have him.

Trump’s health will play into it. You are seeing the beginning of his cognitive decline. If he loses, some of the aura surrounding him will fade, and his ability to regain that will be difficult due to his mental and physical decline. Father Time will aid the movement away from him

i think you are right, pmd.
his appeal is in his "strength", which is largely driven by his ability to blather for over 90 minutes straight. when that degenerates into a string of absurdities, i am thinking that his flock will find another shepherd.

I just can't see that as strength. In some ways he reminds me of a patient whose dementia made him angry and driven. It did not end well at all. Or an angry toddler reverse aging to when he gets killed at "birth". Benjamin Trump?

I am afraid he will age differently than Biden. Instead of becoming quiet and hesitant, he will become louder, angrier and bolder. We already know he doesn’t have to make any sense or follow any particular talking points - so even if he is just ranting even worse nonsense than he already is, his followers will see him as ‘energetic’ and ‘strong’ instead of flawed and unfit.

This MSNBC video explains how trump will overthrow the election: Jump to 3:02 in the video: www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/utter-desperation-trump-s-expected-coup-plot-to-steal-the-election/vi-AA1oKYbO?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=b000aa34973d4906b1126f5082eb4dfa&ei=12something like this might happen: If States votes are not certified by the deadlines it goes to the Secretary of State and/or Governor but they might not have final tallies from the counties. If enough of a back up happens - Congress might step in. It could go to the House of Representatives controlled by the Republicans - and trump becomes president. Or it could go to the Supreme Court and once again trump becomes president. Some of the states have laws in place to stop this from happening. But in Georgia - has put in place mechanisms in Fulton County for Republicans to mess with the vote (and put the above steps to overthrow the vote into play). Looks like everything trump did for the 2020 election was just a test to see who and what needed to be in place for an actual coup attempt to succeed. And they've had 8 years to get all their ducks in a row for another attempt.

of course. but none of this stuff works if the election is not close. IDK. If getting one or more of his cronies to not certify the vote in a State that Harris overwhelming won puts pressure on the whole certification process and forces a Secretary of State or Governor to make a decision that favors trump or if the courts to make a judgement in trumps favor it might not matter how bad trump lost in that State. I think there are 6 swing States where the results of the election could be strongly, um, influenced by trump loyalists in positions of power. It all comes down to the Electoral College "value" of the States Harris wins. If she will need one or more of the trump influenced swing states AND she wins (overwhelmingly or just by a little bit) in them - I bet that trump's machine will kick in to action and his second "coup" attempt will occur.

Unless a third party gets an Electoral College vote, Trump will lose because Harris gets over 269 Electoral College votes. I agree if he loses, he will dispute it. Not sure what behavior would be required to qualify as "rally around." If there are razor thin counts finalized days after the election, I think a large majority of Republicans will answer, "Yes" to a poll question, "Was the election stolen?" A much smaller number might appear at a rally. Only a small group, "his most devout minions," will engage in direct, potentially violent, action. I don't think the last group will be concerned with pesky factual details like it wasn't really close. They will respond regardless.

Just how do you think he would steal the election One of his attempts from the last election: Trump–Raffensperger phone call. This and similar, even more extreme, if he loses in 2024.

With a poster that likely would not be convinced if faced with both a burning bush and a two-by-four, more details may be required. I might start with the installation of Trump loyalists both in judgeships and in state governmental positions, the changing of laws in states such as Georgia where it has already been made easier for counties and therefore the state to delay or reject certification of elections, and that type of thing. I do understand the reluctance to engage in reason with someone apparently devoid of it, but good luck should you choose to try.

Just how do you think he would steal the election He will dispute the election. Hopefully the systems and people in place will hold, like they did in 2020, even with tremendous pressure placed on them. I have heard the first hand accounts from the republicans who ran the elections in Arizona - both statewide and in Maricopa County about the pressure campaign that Trump cronies put on them. They repeatedly pressed them to replace the proper electors with their own people. With admittedly zero evidence they claimed fraud and asked people (who had sworn to respect the process) to just change the results. When those people refused, they shit talked them so bad there were credible death threats and these lifelong republicans had to have security protect their families. They brought in an untested, inexperienced “company” to supervise a recount - who found nothing - and then charged AZ $9M. The company was blatantly partisan, and still found nothing. There were also 7 court cases - none of which had any evidence. So - none of those methods worked - but, maybe they learned something and have found better methods this time. They also had time to make some structural changes that could help them dispute results. They have replaced many officials across the state, hoping they will have more pull in 2024 if necessary. They are also still in court defending changes to the voting laws. I’m optimistic our system will hold against further attempts to disrupt the process with zero evidence. It is just unfortunate there was so much wasted resources when it was tremendously obvious that Biden won AZ.

Just how do you think he would steal the election Seriously, how dense do you have to be to ask that question? He filed 63 lawsuits claiming fraud. Tried to get fake electors in place. A recorded phone call to Kemp asking him to “find” 10 k votes. He and his cronies threatened election workers, so severely in Georgia that they lost a lawsuit. And when that didn’t work, he incited an insurrection. He lies continually about how the 2020 election was stolen for him, and already is claiming if he loses n 2024 it is because of fraud. Again, I ask, how dense can you be?

I like answering open-ended questions because it helps me clarify in my own mind what my thoughts are on topics. I think both the asking and answering helps prevent rigidity of mind that too many develop.

But she shows no indication of that, or the ability to learn anything, an admitted that she has a closed mind as she said she disagrees with anything a liberal says or proposes. It would do us all good if we could at least consider the opposite side. The other thing is the complete ignorance in this question. Unless you are living under a rock(or are a Fox News viewer) what Trump and his cronies have done has been all over the news, and Trump continues to broadcast his plans. Not only closed minded but uninformed
