Careful you'll upset the super fan. I guess we just don't have the same hero worship of celebrity that you guys have. That's why its so hard to understand. Why do you consider it hero worship to acknowledge her accomplishments? I'm not a Swiftie, in fact, I find a lot of her songs annyoing. However, I do recognize that she has more award hardware than pretty much anyone else, she's kind, she's charitable, and she puts on a great show for those who like her music. I find her to be a great role model. She has some songs I like, others I don't. Some I find therapeutic when something is bothering me (Ya I'm talking about Shake It Off) I took GW to her Red Concert. She put on a great show. Other than that I didn't pay a lot of attention to her until all this latest round of publicity. Now I am impressed by her. I love the empowering message of so many of her songs that young women are growing up with. And she has gotten me interested in paying attention to other empowering female entertainers like Pink, Mylie Cyrus, Dolly Parton and so many more...between them and all the men that are showing up as allies to call out the Brads and Chads misogyny it's reminding me that there are a whole lot of people in the world that think like me.

Oh dear, looks like the King has cancer. So what? Millions of others do too. Why should we care about a morally-challenged figurehead with no particularly outstanding personal qualities or characteristics, and who even you describe as having no discernable talent to admire?

Nope they are just the King and Princes ...... no discernable talent to admire. They have respect for being Heads of State, that's it. Nope- they are also celebrities. celebrities don't have to be admired. it is not in the definition. you are narrowing the definition. it is quite broad. famous people are celebrities. period. check it in the OED. you don't have to be revered or adored to be a celebrity. i will concede the point that you don't elect athletes and entertainers the way we do in the US. and i will further concede that this is a fault on the part of Americans. but it actually underscores my point. many athletes and entertainers are despicable people, yet they are celebrities and occasionally run for office, here. here is the definition from your OED. this word has similar usage dating back over 600 years: The state or fact of being well known, widely discussed, or publicly esteemed. Later usually: personal fame or renown as manifested in (and determined by) public interest and media attention. note the "or". not an "AND". we have celebrity criminals. so do you.

It isn’t like Taylor is putting her financial status in jeopardy. Once you hit a billion dollars, it is hard to go to the poor house. She doesn’t even work for the money anymore. It is just a high to get that kind of admiration. What do you mean she doesn't work for it anymore? Do you think creating music, producing videos, doing 4 hour concerts etc isn't work? It isn’t her motivation. If she didn’t love the admiration she wouldn’t have done the Era’s tour. I’m not criticizing her - I wish I could get a high like that from my work - or anything else.

I have never been a fan of Taylor Swift as an artist. Her music is okay (I love Blank Space), but not really my genre. But good lord am I a fan of her as a person now!
I was mildly annoyed when the Eras Tour started because its like all anyone was talking about, then the movie came out, then she became a billionaire, then she started a relationship with TK. By that time I was just fatiqued of hearing about her, it was too much, like the Britney Spears coverage in the 2000s.....
Then I started hearing about the charity work she is doing WHILE on tour, the way she treats her staff, and just about what a kind generous person she is without needing to be acknowledged for it.....
Then she pissed off the MAGA heads....
Then she overthrew Kim Kardashian as the most influential person in fashion AND the most followed person in Insta...
Shes making the world a better place and also taking down MAGAs and the Kardashians at the same time, and I am now officially a Swifty!

Yet appear talentless. They have a whole country convinced that sustaining them in the lifestyle they are accustomed to is a good thing and something the country should be proud of. They have other countries "admiring" their Monarchy. They are the original Kardashians on steroids. I'm not sure what it's called but you have to admit it is some kind of talent.

Did ypu read saveinla's post? They pointed out how you put the royal family on a pedestal and asked how that is any different than the swifties doing the same with Taylor. All you came up with was that you don't worship celebrities? Am I being punked? The Royals aren't celebrities. This is a Monarchy and they are the Heads of State and apolitical. Is Joe Biden a celebrity? We do have "celebrities" as in Actors, Singers and you tube influencers .... but people don't take much notice of them when it comes to politics. The wonderfulness of Taylor Swift is besides the point I was trying to make for the discussion (With limited success) Yes we love Taylor Swift, even I do..... Its lovely to have someone wholesome for our youngsters to admire. Do we care about her politics? ...... a resounding No. The Royals are celebrities and cash cows for the UK. Certain people have made their entire livings by following them, writing books about them, and giving interviews about what they allegedly think and do. Because they tlked to someone who "knows" them. There has been nothing like that in the US while I was alive until Trump. People have been making a living off of covering Trump, but not like lifetime royal watchers who write books and grant interviews. MAGA vendors have only been plying their trade since 2015 if they got on the train early. Trump would have to live past 100 for those peeps to even compete with those royal pundits. Royals not celebrities. How delightfully funny and so very incorrect. Your royals do stay apolitical by choice. I believe that was a choice in order to keep the monarchy when Parliament and forming an elected government became standard there. Kings and Queens were and have been the original politicians.

Taylor Swift's "Mean" is the song I think of whenever I hear people ranting about her.
"And I can see you years from now in a bar Talking over a football game With that same big loud opinion But nobody's listening Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing But all you are is mean All you are is mean And a liar, and pathetic, and alone in life And mean, and mean, and mean, and mean But someday, I'll be living in a big old city And all you're ever gonna be is mean, yeah Someday, I'll be big enough so you can't hit me And all you're ever gonna be is mean"

Why not? She is an intelligent woman with great influence in the world. For crying out loud she influences whole economies and makes huge donations to social causes. The woman has political cred. I can see debating with her about what her views are, but I don't get the refusal to even listen to what her views are. If Taylor Swift gets into debating politics think of the millions of Swifties that will become interested. I think left leaning talk show hosts should be having her on to debate policies (if she would agree to do it) That would get a lot of the vote out.

what later said. it is better than admiring, say, Tucker Carlson for his politics. the man has no character whatsoever. at least Swift appears to stand for something.

what later said. it is better than admiring, say, Tucker Carlson for his politics. the man has no character whatsoever. at least Swift appears to stand for something. Tucker Carlson, the fired Fox News star, makes bid for relevance with Putin interviewThe right-wing television provocateur Tucker Carlson interviewed Vladimir Putin in Moscow in an exchange fueling both the Russian president's anti-Ukrainian rhetoric and Carlson's drive for renewed relevance in his post-Fox career. In a video taped after the interview, Carlson told viewers that he found Putin to be sincere, if not adept at making his case to an American audience. "He denied it, but it's obvious he's very wounded by the rejection of the West," Carlson said. "Like a lot of Russians he expected the end of the Cold War would be Russia's invitation into Europe." It is the first interview Putin has granted to an American since the Russian invasion two years ago. The pairing should not come as a surprise. Carlson has routinely been lionized by Kremlin propaganda outlets; his clips attacking the Biden administration's support for Ukraine have been routinely rebroadcast, for example. Russian media has fawned over Carlson this week, giving his comings and goings in Moscow a treatment akin to U.S. media's coverage of Taylor Swift. Carlson filmed a video to promote the interview on the rooftop of the Ritz Carlton Hotel near the Red Square, a location that, according to Russian journalist Yevgenia Albats, spoke volumes of the regard the Kremlin held for Carlson. "Its roof is controlled by one of the KGB's successors, the Federal Security Service," she posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "No one of us, and no one other foreign journalist, except for Oliver Stone, had that luxury of reporting from the roof top." Few have done more than Carlson to lift up the Russian leader as a figure of admiration in Republican circles, just as he has propelled the otherwise relatively obscure Viktor Orban, Hungary's autocratic leader, to star status. In that promotional video, Carlson had said he wanted to interview Putin about the war in Ukraine to learn the truth – and because other American journalists were too biased against Russia to want to do so. Rest of article here: Tucker Carlson, the fired Fox News star, makes bid for relevance with Putin interview

I disagree with the article's theory that Carlson did this to be relevant. Tucker is a mouthpiece for Putin much like Trump has been. This is not new or radical. Its just more of the same. We don't even know how much Carlson was paid for this act of service to Putin and his propaganda machine.
To me the quote from the article via Tucker's mouth is just more propaganda Putin wants pushed onto the American people. Bunch of BS. Sure he would like an invitation to Europe to make it easier to exploit and take over, but why should we help him? It shows how bad Tucker and DJT are as American patriots. They will sell us out in a heartbeat if there is money and fame for them.

I think its fascinating, from the snippets I've seen.... I hope they have got the analysts on this. How often do we hear from Putin?
Seems to be wanting to rewrite history somewhat. A bit paranoid when it comes to Elon Musk Disappointed with the Worlds reaction to him Making promises which no-one will ever believe.... (ie not wanting to invade Poland or Latvia)
I'd liked to see a full independent breakdown of exactly what this interview reveals. so we can better understand what we are dealing with.
Propaganda, of course.... but what else is there.

Its about half an hour
but that part should be viewed with extreme caution imo
He doesn't want to go to Poland or Latvia, really?....... that's what he said about Ukraine
He is sabre rattling about NATO soldiers in Ukraine starting WW3 (We aren't going anyway)
He doesn't want us to supply Ukraine with weapons ...........well of course not. He wins
Remember the general who was going to march on Moscow and how he promised him that he would be safe in Belarus? Then his plane fell out of the sky
All the integrity of a snake ........ and a very dangerous man

Maybe I am just going on headlines - the royals definitely work (or at least Princess Anne does) - does that work mirror anything our government pays non-royal people to do? You don't need to defend the Royals..... They are the Government of another country. Its matters that the King has cancer because it could create a constitutional crisis.... as he is Head of State in this and 14 countries. We have just settled down after the Queens demise Imagine if Joe Biden suddenly developed cancer ...... it would leave you thinking, what's going to happen now.

Over someone who holds essentially no constitutional power even in his own country, much less the other associated ones? The current king's title is what, Charles III? Wasn't it Charles I centuries ago who was the last king with any power to actually rule? Your king is a figurehead, just like all other kings and queens for centuries. Admittedly, some of your figureheads have been beloved. That doesn't change their status.

There was I think a Colbert video that had various clips of Mike Lindell making his version of a Buzz/No sound in his podcast or whatever it is. I never got around to posting it at the start of the silliness, but it was pretty funny watching Lindell thinking he made sense.
